Objectives: To better understand the etiologic factors that can influence preeclampsia, we inves- tigated hereditary factors for thrombosis, FV Leiden, F II 20210A mutation and the polymorphism C677T of the mTHFr, as singly and as in association, in a group of women from Ceará state-Northeast Brazil with severe preeclampsia. material and methods: We conducted a case-control study. 101 cases of severe preeclampsia were recruited from School maternity Assis Chateaubriand, a reference maternity of State of Ceará, Brazil, from december 2009 to december 2010. For clinical correlations, women were interrogated about fetal low weight (less than2500 grams) and fetal loss in previous pregnancies. low weight, fetal loss and necessity of neonatal intensive care unit (neonatal ICU) related to current pregnancy were registered. 245 healthy voluntary women were recruited from the blood bank donors to verify the frequency of FV Leiden, FII and mTHFr as a control group. The study was approved by the Committee on Ethics in Human research of maternidade Escola Assis Chateubriand and all individuals gave their informed consent to participate in the study. Standard veinipuncture, with EDTA as anticoagulant, was used to collect blood samples. Genomic DNA was extracted, soon after, using a salting out method. Agarose gel electrophoresis with ethidium bromide staining was performed to ensure the quality of DNA extraction. results: The frequencies of FV Leiden and FII mutation carrier were 0.99% (1/101) for both factors in the preeclampsia patients and 1.86% (4/214) and 0.93% (2/214), respectively, in control group. All mutates were heterozygous and concomitance of both mutations was not found. The genotype distribution of the mTHFr C677T in the patients and controls frequencies was in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p ≤ 0.05). Study on outbreak of Neospora caninum-associated abortion in dairy cows in Tabriz (Northwest Iran) by serological,molecular and histopathologic methods

Introduction: The process of extracting oil from cotton seeds can create dusty work atmospheres that can cause respiratory problems. The main objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of respiratory problems among permanent workers in an oil mill in Benin. methods: This cross-sectional study of 52 workers in an oil mill took place in January 2017 as part of the annual medical check-ups of workers. A questionnaire was administered and spirometry using Spirobank II and chest radiography were performed. The spirometry results were interpreted by an occupational physician and a pulmonologist. Data were entered and analyzed using Epidata software. results: The mean age was 42.7 ± 6.4 years, and 43 of the 52 workers were men. Of these, 58% were in technical production positions and 42% in administrative positions. most of them had more than 10 years of seniority. The prevalence of respiratory symptoms among production workers was 4 (13%) versus 2 (9%) among administrative workers. A total of 8 (15.4%) abnormal spirometry was identified with 4 obstructive syndrome, 3 restrictive syndrome, 1 a mixed pattern. There were 5 (16.6%) workers in production versus 3 (13.6%) in administration who had abnormal spirometry. The means 25/75 forced expiratory flow (FEF) value of production workers was significantly lower than that of administration workers. Abnormal chest radiographs were 5 (17%) in production workers compared to 3 (14%) in administration workers. Conclusion: Oil mill workers had few respiratory symptoms. However, production workers had more ventilatory disorders than administrative workers. A spirometric follow-up of this group of workers is therefore necessary.

纳米零价铁是一种前景广阔的环境修复材料,目前针对应用纳米零价铁进行地下水污染修复已经开展了广泛的研究。然而,现有研究多关注于注入纳米零价铁的运移能力,对于负载污染物后纳米零价铁的迁移行为缺少研究。本文研究了磷负载前后纳米零价铁的团聚趋势以及运移能力,分析了流速、离子浓度、多孔介质粒径级配等因素对磷负载纳米零价铁运移能力的影响。结果表明,磷负载纳米零价铁的团聚趋势相对于反应前纳米零价铁较低,其运移能力则强于吸附磷之前的纳米零价铁,这是由于吸附磷增加了纳米零价铁的表面负电荷进而阻碍了颗粒团聚。离子浓度对于磷负载纳米零价铁的运移能力有显著的影响,低离子浓度、高流速有利于磷负载纳米零价铁的运移。磷负载纳米零价铁在中玻璃珠中的运移能力强于细玻璃珠和粗玻璃珠,在天然砂中的运移能力则小于在中玻璃珠中的运移能力。利用DLVO理论以及胶体的粒桥、颗粒阻塞和表面沉积等多种滞留机理对试验中观察到的现象进行了解释。在含有高岭土的天然砂中,磷负载纳米零价铁的运移能力很弱,且沉降试验表明高岭土可以促进磷负载纳米零价铁的团聚沉降,这表明磷负载纳米零价铁有可能富集在含有高岭土的土层中。在应用纳米零价铁吸附地下水中的污染物时,应考虑污染物对于纳米零价铁运移能力的影响,并结合环境条件对该影响进行评估和控制。

Background: The principal strategy for managing head injury is to reduce the frequency and severity of secondary brain insults from intracranial pressure (ICP) and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP), and hence improve outcome. Precise critical threshold levels have not been determined in head injured children. Objective: To create a novel pressure- time index (PTI) measuring both duration and amplitude of insult, and then em.loy it to determine critical insult thresholds of ICP and CPP in children. methods: Prospective, observational, physiologically based study from Edinburgh and Newcastle, using patient monitored blood pressure, ICP, and CPP time series data. The PTI for ICP and CPP for 81 children, using theoretical values derived from physiological norms, was varied systematically to derive critical insult thresholds which delineate Glasgow outcome scale categories. results: The PTI for CPP had a very high predictive value for outcome (receiver operating characteristic analyses: area under curve = 0.957 and 0.890 for mortality and favourable outcome, respectively) and was more predictive than for ICP. Initial physiological values most accurately predicted favourable outcome. The CPP critical threshold values determined for children aged 2- 6, 7- 10, and 11- 15 years were 48, 54, and 58 mmHg. respectively. Conclusions: The PTI is the first substantive paediatric index of total ICP and CPP following head injury. The insult thresholds generated are identical to age related physiological values. management guidelines for paediatric head injuries should take account of these CPP thresholds to titrate appropriate pressor therapy.

Structural, electronic, elastic, and thermal properties of CaNiH3 perovskite obtained from first-principles calculations

A theoretical study of the structural, elastic, electronic, mechanical, and thermal properties of the perovskite-type hydride CaNiH3 is presented. This study is carded out via first-principles full potential （FP） linearized augmented plane wave plus local orbital （LAPW＋lo） method designed within the density functional theory （DFT）. To treat the exchange-correlation energy/potential for the total energy calculations, the local density approximation （LDA） of Perdew-Wang （PW） and the generalized gradient approximation （GGA） of Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof （PBE） are used. The three independent elastic constants （C11, C12, and C44） are calculated from the direct computation of the stresses generated by small strains. Besides, we report the variation of the elastic constants as a function of pressure as well. From the calculated elastic constants, the mechanical character of CaNiH3 is predicted. Pertaining to the thermal properties, the debye temperature is estimated from the average sound velocity. To further comprehend this compound, the quasi-harmonic debye model is used to analyze the thermal properties. From the calculations, we find that the obtained results of the lattice constant （ao）, bulk modulus （Bo）, and its pressure derivative （B0′） are in good agreement with the available theoretical as well as experimental results. Similarly, the obtained electronic band structure demonstrates the metallic character of this perovskite-type hydride.
