Glucose oxidase(GOx)-based nanotheranostic agents hold great promise in tumor starvation and its synergistic therapy. Self-assembled plasmonic gold vesicles(GVs) with unique optical properties, large hollow cavity, and strong localized surface plasmon resonance, can be used as multi-functional nanocarriers for synergistic therapy. Herein,GOx-loaded GVs(GV-GOx) were developed for light-triggered GOx release as well as enhanced catalytic activity of GOx, achieving programmable photothermal/starvation therapy. Under near-infrared laser irradiation, the GV-GOx generated strong localized hyperthermia due to plasmon coupling effect of GVs, promoting the release of encapsulated GOx and increasing its catalytic activity, resulting in enhanced tumor starvation effect. In addition, the high photothermal effect improved the cellular uptake of GV-GOx and allowed an efficient monitoring of synergistic tumor treatment via photoacoustic/photothermal duplex imaging in vivo. Impressively, the synergistic photothermal/starvation therapy demonstrated complete tumor eradication in 4 T1 tumorbearing mice, verifying superior synergistic anti-tumor therapeutic effects than monotherapy with no apparent systemic side effects. Our work demonstrated the development of a light-triggered nanoplatform for cancer synergistic therapy.

The effect of the Entomopathogenic fungus, Paceilomyces farinosus on reproductive potential of female survivors, egg viability and total egg production of poplar leaf beetle Melasoma populi L. was investigated in Plant Protection Department laboratories, School of Plant Production, faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Duhok University in Spring 2011. Prepupae, pupae and newly emerged adults were treated with spore suspension of *** （1 ~ 10s conidia/mL）. Another group of adults were reared on sprayed poplar leaves with a same concentration of conidial suspension. Eggs production and hatching percentage were monitored daily over a 7-wk period. Overall reproductive capacity was significantly lower as compared with control. The total number of eggs per surviving female was 85.50, 149.50, 123.43 and 280.24 eggs for pre-pupa, pupa, adult and leaves treated, respectively as compared with 299.75 in control after fourth week. Pre-oviposition, ovipostion, post-oviposition days and the longevity of females and males were shorter in treated individuals compared with control. The lowest percentage hatching was 75.12% in eggs deposited by adults feed on treated leaves as compared with 98.42% in control.

Short Term Prognostic Utility of Tc-99m DMSA Renal imaging in Sepsis Induced Acute Renal failure;Provisional Data

Background: Sound prognostic data in sepsis induced acute renal failure (SARF) are lacking especially on the short term outcome [STO] in the intensive care unit [ICU]. We addressed the use of Tc-99m DMSA [2,3-dimercaptosuccinicacid] renal cortical imaging as a prognostic tool in SARF. Methods: Forty patients with acute renal failure due to sepsis [age range 15-74 years;median 44.5] were subjected for full history taking complete physical examination, routine ICU monitoring, routine laboratory investigations, APACHE II [Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation] and SOfa [Sequential Organ failure Assessment] together with Tc-99m DMSA cortical renal scintigraphy. Patients’ death in the ICU or discharge was considered as the end point of the study representing the so-called short term outcome [STO]. Results: 25% mortality rate [10/40] was found along the admission period in the ICU. All non-survivors were abnormal with DMSA imaging [NPV & PPV 100% & 66.7% respectively]. Abnormal DMSA cases showed significant positive associations with serum creatinine at admission [r = 0.5;P 0.02];admission duration [r = 0.4;P 0.002];APACHE II score [r = 0.5;P 0.004] and STO [r = 0.4;P 0.03]. Statistically significant difference was elicited between subjects with normal and abnormal DMSA regarding the same parameters. Conclusion: This preliminary data could raise Tc-99m DMSA renal imaging as a prognostic tool in SARF that could allow influential interference to prohibit dramatic outcomes as mortality.

Knowledge and Awareness of Breast Cancer among Young Women in the United Arab Emirates

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among females in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It carries poor prognosis when detected late. Patients usually present at late stages due to lack of awareness of various aspects of breast cancer. Aim: The objective of this study is to gain insight into the level of knowledge of breast cancer among young adult females in UAE. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among females aged 25 to 45. A total of 492 females were selected using a convenience sampling method. Data were collected through an interview-based questionnaire. Frequency distributions and percentages were used to describe the knowledge tested within the questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the participants was 33.5 years. Almost 27% of our participants received a high school degree. The average total knowledge of our population was 51%. The majority (89%) knew that breast cancer is common and 45% knew that it affects ages above forty. The knowledge of signs and symptoms was 53%, and more than half (57%) knew that the most common presenting sign is a breast lump. The knowledge of risk factors was 43%. Almost 94% knew that cancer can be detected early, and 93% knew that early diagnosis improves outcome. The total knowledge of screening methods was 67%. Conclusion: The study revealed that respondents’ knowledge of breast cancer is less than expected. The increased burden of the disease should be accompanied by powerful means of spreading awareness by implementing campaigns that would improve knowledge deficits.

Microsurgical Management of Vestibular Schwannomas with Brainstem Compression: Surgical Challenges and Outcome

Background: Vestibular schwannomas exerting brainstem compression with or without hydrocephalus are challenging for neurosurgeons regarding the plan of surgery, operative risk and postoperative sequale. Purpose: To report our experience with the surgical challenges and outcomes for Hannover type T4a & T4b vestibular schwannomas. Methods: Retrospective case study conducted at neurosurgery department, Mansoura University between October 2016 and May 2019 of 16 patients with vestibular schwannoma compressing the brainstem. We reviewed their clinical, radiological, surgical data, incidence of complications and outcome. Results: We had 16 patients: 10 of Hanover grade T4b and 6 of grade T4a. Gross total resection was achieved in 2 cases while subtotal resection was achieved in 5 cases and in the remaining 9 cases;only partial resection was feasible. We had 4 cases of mortality. Among new onset morbidity after surgery, 3 cases had post-operative bulbar manifestation and 4 cases had brainstem dysfunction. Conclusion: Vestibular schwannomas compressing the brain stem are challenging in their clinical presentation, surgery and post-operative outcome. The outcome of patients treated with hydrocephalus prior to vestibular schwannoma surgery is better than those who did initial VS surgery. Patients presented with significant brainstem, bulbar manifestation had worse outcome and needed longer ICU stay and longer time for recovery.

Background: Pre-eclampsia (PE), a complex, multisystem, pregnancy-associated hypertensive disorder, typically developing after the 20th week of gestation, that complicates 2% - 8% of pregnancies, is a leading cause of neonatal and maternal mortality and morbidity. Aim of the Work: To identify different factors predicting transformation of non-severe pre-eclampsia in to pre-eclampsia with severe features. Patients and Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted at tertiary care hospital at Ain Shams University hospitals from June 2021 till January 2022 and performed on total of 100 patients who diagnosed as non-severe pre-eclampsia after exclusion of severity features. Results: The current study revealed that transformation to severe pre-eclampsia occurred in 33% of the studied cases. Body mass index (BMI), past and family histories of preeclampsia statistically were significantly higher in cases transformed into preeclampsia with severe features. Admission blood pressure, albumin dipstick, Oligohydramnios and IUGR statistically were significantly higher in cases with transformation from non-severe pre-eclampsia into pre-eclampsia with severe features. Platelet count statistically was significantly lower in cases with transformation from non-severe pre-eclampsia into pre-eclampsia with severe features Conclusion: Our study results identified the most important clinical risk factors for transformation to severe features of pre-eclampsia from non-severe features and provided new information on the level of risk associated with specific combinations of risk factors (BMI ≥ 35.4, admission systolic blood pressure, admission diastolic blood pressure, albumin dipstick 4+ and platelets count) with low significant diagnostic performance in predicting transformation from non-severe pre-eclampsia into pre-eclampsia with severe features.

药用植物花朵中含有抗氧化、抑制微生物、抗炎和抗癌等功能性成分,在世界许多国家被广泛认识和利用。采用何种方法以最大程度地提取这些植物花朵中的功能性成分,一直是研究的热点。因此,本文研究了不同提取方法对不同药用植物中花朵中生物活性化合物含量的影响。并研究了这些提取物的抗氧化、抗癌和抑菌性能。本研究的主要结论如下:1、以多酚含量为指标优化提取方法。使用浓度从0%到90%的乙醇提取Cassia javanica L.（决明子）花瓣中的总酚（TPC）和总黄酮（TFC）,并利用超声波辅助提取（UAE）和超临界二氧化碳（SCF-CO）在不同压力下进行提取。利用响应面（RSM）优化了UAE和SCF-CO的参数。结果表明,采用乙醇、SCF-CO和UAE提取决明子花瓣,TPC分别为92.2 mg/g、177.58 mg/g和112.89 mg/g。在不添加合成抗氧化剂的情况下,将SCF-CO共溶剂提取物包埋并应用于葵花籽油中。结果表明,相比较于UAE和乙醇提取,采用SCF-CO是保留TPC和TFC的最佳处理方法。SCF-CO（95.85%和65.7%）、UAE（72.58%和46.8%）和乙醇提取（67.24%和41.2%）对β-胡萝卜素/亚油酸和2,2-二苯基–1-苦基肼（DPPH）自由基清除试验体系的抗氧化活性最高。SCF-CO对PC3（76.20%）和MCF7（98.70%）的抑制率最高,对PC3（145μg/m L）和MCF7（96μg/m L）的IC50值最低。研究发现,用SCF-CO提取物强化葵花籽油对游离脂肪酸和过氧化物水平有有益的影响。最终发现SCF-CO法具有优越性,可用于大规模加工。2、研究了在鲜橙汁中添加不同浓度（0.5%、1%和1.5%）的冻干浓缩物（EFC和AFC）对其理化性质和抑菌性能的影响。结果表明,EFC添加量为0.5%、1%和1.5%时,TSS值分别为9.44、10.1和10.56白度,显著提高了TSS水平。同样,AFC的掺入导致TSS值升高,其中0.5%、1%和1.5%的浓度分别导致TSS值为10.09、10.44和10.84白度。在p H方面,结果表明EFC的加入对p H有显著影响,浓度越高,p H值越高。在浓度为0.5%时,p H值为4.05,在浓度为1%和1.5%时,p H值略有下降,分别为4.03和4.02。相反,AFC对橙汁p H值的影响较小。在浓度为0.5%时,p H值与对照样品相比保持不变,而在浓度为1%和1.5%时,p H值分别略有上升至3.99和4.01。添加EFC或AFC对橙汁的粘度和电导率（EC）没有显著影响,EFC的粘度分别为52、53和53 mpa,AFC在浓度为0.5、1和1.5%时相同,EFC的电导率分别为0.334、0.347和0.3375 s/m,AFC在浓度为0.5、1和1.5%时EC分别为0.325、0.335和0.373 s/m。但随着浓度的增加,EFC和AFC的总酚含量（EFC:154.95mg/100 ml和AFC:156.25 mg/100 ml）、总黄酮含量（EFC:69.73 mg/100 ml和AFC:70.31mg/100 ml）和抗氧化活性（EFC:79.58%和AFC:81.21%）均显著提高。此外,EFC或AFC的添加导致橙汁的总平板计数和霉菌和酵母计数下降。综上所述,在不影响鲜橙汁感官特性的前提下,添加EFC或AFC可改善鲜橙汁的营养和抑菌性能。3、比较研究了传统乙醇提取和UAE两种不同方法对槐花的提取效果。全反射-傅里叶变换红外（ATR-FTIR）分析结果表明,UAE提取物具有较高的官能团和极性化合物浓度。与传统乙醇提取物相比,UAE提取物的总酚含量（65.57 mg GAE/g）更高,结晶度更低,抗氧化活性更强（67%）。利用该提取物制备纳米乳状液,并对其理化性质进行了表征。结果表明,乳液的粒径为252.92 nm,Zeta电位为-38 m V。采用热重分析（TGA）评价了乳状液的热稳定性,结果表明两种乳状液均具有较高的失重率。测定了乳状液的过氧化值,并通过激光共聚焦显微镜（CLSM）展示了微球形态的差异。接触角测试表明,UAE乳状液的润湿性优于传统乙醇提取物乳状液。总的来说,该研究强调了超声波具有改进生物活性特性的提取物方面的潜力,以及超声波用于制备具有理想物理化学特性的稳定纳米乳液的适用性。本研究强调了绿色提取方法的重要性,以及它们在食品加工、制药和化妆品行业的未来潜力。

In this paper, the principles of the operation of an adsorption cooling circuit and its operating points are analyzed through both a thermodynamic analysis and with mathematical calculations of the whole circuit and using EES to design the solar system. The results of the program are discussed and highlighted by comparing them with the results of the theoretical and experimental studies in the references.
