Early systemic anticoagulation reduces hospital readmission in acute necrotizing pancreatitis patients:A retrospective cohort study

Background:Early systemic anticoagulation(SAC)is a common practice in acute necrotizing pancreatitis(ANP),and its impact on in-hospital clinical outcomes had been assessed.However,whether it affects long-term outcomes is unknown.This study aimed to evaluate the effect of SAC on 90-day readmission and other long-term outcomes in ANP patients.Methods:During January 2013 and December 2018,ANP patients admitted within 7 days from the onset of abdominal pain were screened.The primary outcome was 90-day readmission after discharge.Cox proportional-hazards regression model and mediation analysis were used to define the relationship between early SAC and 90-day readmission.Results:A total of 241 ANP patients were enrolled,of whom 143 received early SAC during their hospitalization and 98 did not.Patients who received early SAC experienced a lower incidence of splanchnic venous thrombosis(SVT)[risk ratio(RR)=0.40,95%CI:0.26-0.60,Plity of life,patients who received early SAC had a significantly higher score in the subscale of vitality(P=0.03)while the other subscales were all comparable between the two groups.Multivariable Cox regression model showed that early SAC was an independent protective factor for 90-day readmission after adjusting for potential confounders with a hazard ratio of 0.57(95%CI:0.34-0.96,P=0.04).Mediation analysis showed that SVT mediated 37.0%of the early SAC-90-day readmission causality.Conclusions:The application of early SAC may reduce the risk of 90-day readmission in the survivors of ANP patients,and reduced SVT incidence might be the primary contributor.

We establish an explicit embedding of a quantum affine sl_(n) into a quantum affine sl_(n)+1.This embedding serves as a common generalization of two natural,but seemingly unrelated,embed-dings,one on the quantum affine Schur algebra level and the other on the non-quantum level.The embedding on the quantum affine Schur algebras is used extensively in the analysis of canonical bases of quantum affine sln and gl_(n).The embedding on the non-quantum level is used crucially in a work of Riche and Williamson on the study of modular representation theory of general linear groups over a finite field.The same embedding is also used in a work of Maksimau on the categorical representations of affine general linear algebras.We further provide a more natural compatibility statement of the em-bedding on the idempotent version with that on the quantum affine Schur algebra level.A gl_(n)-variant of the embedding is also established.

In continuous casting production,droplet characteristics are important parameters for evaluating the nozzle atomization quality,and have a significant impact on the secondary cooling effect and the slab quality.In order to study the behavior of atomized droplets after reaching the slab surface and to optimize the spray cooling effect,the influence of droplet diameter and droplet velocity on the migration behavior of droplets in the secondary cooling zone was analyzed by FLUENT software.Results show that the droplets in the spray zone and on the slab surface are mainly concentrated in the center,thus,the liquid volume fraction in the center is higher than that of either side.As the droplet diameter increases,the region of high liquid volume fraction on the slab surface becomes wider,and the liquid phase distribution in the slab width direction becomes uneven.Although increasing the droplet velocity at the nozzle exit has little effect on droplet diffusion in the spray zone,the distribution becomes more uneven due to more liquid reaches the slab surface per unit time.A prediction formula of the maximum water flow rate on the slab surface for specific droplet characteristics was proposed based on dimensionless analysis and validated by simulated data.A nozzle spacing of 210 mm was recommended under the working conditions in this study,which ensures effective coverage of the spray water over the slab surface and enhances the distribution uniformity of water flow rate in the transverse direction.

Phellodendron(PN)species,traditionally used in Chinese medicine for centuries,hold promise as a potential treatment for osteoporosis(OP)and osteoarthritis(OA)due to their bioactive compounds.The bioactive compounds,including berberine and palmatine,exhibit anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,and bone-protective properties,contributing to their potential therapeutic benefits in promoting bone health and preventing bone loss.However,challenges such as the need for standardized preparation and dosing,limited clinical studies,and potential interactions with other medications hinder their clinical use.Nonetheless,the rich history of PN species in Chinese medicine provides a promising foundation for future investigation into their potential as alternative treatments for OP and OA.Further research is needed to fully understand the underlying mechanisms of action and explore the clinical implications of PN for bone health.

In two recent papers,approximate solutions for compact non-axisymmetric contact problems of homogeneous and power-law graded elastic bodies have been suggested,which provide explicit analytical relations for the force–approach relation,the size and the shape of the contact area,as well as for the pressure distribution therein.These solutions were derived for profiles,which only slightly deviate from the axisymmetric shape.In the present paper,they undergo an extensive testing and validation by comparison of solutions with a great variety of profile shapes with numerical solutions obtained by the fast Fourier transform(FFT)-assisted boundary element method(BEM).Examples are given with quite significant deviations from axial symmetry and show surprisingly good agreement with numerical solutions.

Online monitoring of the curing temperature field is essential to improving the quality and efficiency of the manufacturing process of composite parts.Traditional embedded sensor-based technologies have difficulty monitoring the full temperature field or have to introduce heterogeneous items that could have an undesired impact on the part.In this paper,a non-contact,full-field monitoring method based on deep learning that predicts the internal temperature field of composite parts in real time using surface temperature measurements of auxiliary materials is proposed.Using the proposed method,an average temperature monitoring accuracy of 97%is achieved in various heating patterns.In addition,this method also demonstrates satisfying feasibility when a stronger thermal barrier covers the part.This method was experimentally validated during the self-resistance electric heating process,in which the monitoring accuracy reached 93.1%.This method can potentially be applied to automated manufacturing and process control in the composites industry.

Recurrent event data are commonly encountered in many scientific fields,including biomedical studies,clinical trials and epidemiological surveys,and many statistical methods have been proposed for their analysis.In this paper,we consider to use a weighted composite endpoint of recurrent and terminal events,which is weighted by the severity of each event,to assess the overall effects of covariates on the two types of events.A flexible additive-multiplicative model incorporating both multiplicative and additive effects on the rate function is proposed to analyze such weighted composite event process,and more importantly,the dependence structure among the recurrent and terminal events is left unspecified.For the estimation,we construct the unbiased estimating equations by virtue of the inverse probability weighting technique,and the resulting estimators are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normal under some mild regularity conditions.We evaluate the finite-sample performance of the proposed method via simulation studies and apply the proposed method to a set of real data arising from a bladder cancer study.

Machine Learning-based Identification of Contaminated Images in light Curve Data Preprocessing

Attitude is one of the crucial parameters for space objects and plays a vital role in collision prediction and debris removal.Analyzing light curves to determine attitude is the most commonly used method.In photometric observations,outliers may exist in the obtained light curves due to various reasons.Therefore,preprocessing is required to remove these outliers to obtain high quality light curves.Through statistical analysis,the reasons leading to outliers can be categorized into two main types:first,the brightness of the object significantly increases due to the passage of a star nearby,referred to as“stellar contamination,”and second,the brightness markedly decreases due to cloudy cover,referred to as“cloudy contamination.”The traditional approach of manually inspecting images for contamination is time-consuming and labor-intensive.However,we propose the utilization of machine learning methods as a substitute.Convolutional Neural Networks and SVMs are employed to identify cases of stellar contamination and cloudy contamination,achieving F1 scores of 1.00 and 0.98 on a test set,respectively.We also explore other machine learning methods such as ResNet-18 and light Gradient Boosting Machine,then conduct comparative analyses of the results.
