The influence of proxy selection on global annual mean temperature reconstructions during the Common Era

The reconstruction of global annual mean temperatures made by the PAGES 2k Consortium in 2019 represents one of the most influential sequences of global climate variability over the Common ***,it is still not clear how the reconstruction can be influenced by the selection of reconstruction methods and the selection of proxy records with different temporal resolutions over different *** adopt a widely used Composite-Plus-Scale method to elucidate the effects of the selection of the proxy records on temperature *** ensure the uniformity of data,different types of proxy records spanning the past~2000 years from the PAGES 2k proxy network were used to investigate the potential effects of proxy selection in hemispheric and global temperature reconstructions during the past two *** long-term trends,spectral characteristics,and volcanic responses of the annual temperatures were studied based on the *** results reveal a significant cooling trend in the global annual mean temperature using both tree-ring and non-tree-ring records during the 1–1850CE period,and show that the cooling exhibits a stronger trend in the Southern Hemisphere(SH)than that in the Northern Hemisphere(NH).Yet,the long-term trends vary according to different combinations of proxy *** reconstructions based on different types of proxies also exhibit different features in terms of volcanic responses and spectral ***-ring-based temperature reconstructions show stronger cooling responses to tropical volcanic eruptions,while non-tree-ring-based reconstructions suggest less robust volcanic responses,which may be related to dating uncertainties and low temporal resolution of the ***-ring width records tend to preserve a substantial proportion of high-frequency(lity,whereas non-tree-ring proxies tend to capture a larger fraction of low-frequency(>200 years)*** are needed to reduce uncertainti

Ferric ion-triggered surface oxidation of galena for efficient chalcopyrite-galena separation

The efficient separation of chalcopyrite(CuFeS2)and galena(PbS)is essential for optimal resource ***,find-ing a selective depressant that is environmentally friendly and cost effective remains a *** various techniques,such as mi-croflotation tests,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observation,X-ray photoelectron spec-troscopy(XPS),and Raman spectroscopy measurements,this study explored the use of ferric ions(Fe^(3+))as a selective depressant for *** results of flotation tests revealed the impressive selective inhibition capabilities of Fe^(3+)when used *** analysis showed that Fe^(3+)significantly reduced the adsorption of isopropyl ethyl thionocarbamate(IPETC)on the galena surface while having a minimal impact on *** analysis using SEM,XPS,and Raman spectra revealed that Fe^(3+)can oxidize lead sulfide to form compact lead sulfate nanoparticles on the galena surface,effectively depressing IPETC adsorption and increasing surface *** findings provide a promising solution for the efficient and environmentally responsible separation of chalcopyrite and galena.

The study of lithographic variation in resistive random access memory

Reducing the process variation is a significant concern for resistive random access memory(RRAM).Due to its ultrahigh integration density,RRAM arrays are prone to lithographic variation during the lithography process,introducing electrical variation among different RRAM *** this work,an optical physical verification methodology for the RRAM array is developed,and the effects of different layout parameters on important electrical characteristics are systematically *** results indicate that the RRAM devices can be categorized into three clusters according to their locations and lithography *** read resistance is more sensitive to the locations in the array(~30%)than SET/RESET voltage(lication of the optical proximity correction technique can help to reduce the variation to less than 10%,whereas it reduces RRAM read resistance by 4×,resulting in a higher power and area *** such,we provide design guidelines to minimize the electrical variation of RRAM arrays due to the lithography process.

SS-LASS Zircon Dating Deciphering Multiple Episodes of Anatexis in a Deeply-Subducted Continental Crust:An Example from Sulu Orogen,China

‘Single shot'laser-ablation split-stream(SS-LASS)technique analyzing unpolished zircon grains makes their thin rims tenable for determination,which thus offers great potential in deciphering the timing of multiple and short-lived episodes of anatexis and metamorphism in deeplysubducted continental *** granitic gneisses in the deeply subducted continental crust undergoing considerable fluid-melt activities persist multistage growth of ***,a comparative study of SS-LASS and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer(LA-ICP-MS)zircon dating was conducted on the granitic gneisses from the Sulu belt in this *** mostly show a core-mantle-rim structure with CL-bright rims thinner than 5μ*** LA-ICP-MS dating,relict magmatic zircon cores yield protolith ages of ca.756-747 Ma;whereas the dark mantles record synexhumation anatexis at ca.214 *** contrast,according to the U-Pb dates,trace element features,zircon crystallization temperatures and geological context,SS-LASS zircon petrochronology deciphers three episodes of anatectic events,as follows:(i)the first episode of anatexis at ca.218-217 Ma dominated by phengite-breakdown melting,likely facilitating the exhumation of the UHP slice from mantle depth;(ii)the second episode of anatexis at ca.193–191 Ma indicating part of northern Dabie-Sulu belt was still“hot”because of buried in the thickened orogenic crust at that time;(iii)the third episode of anatexis(ca.162–161 Ma)consistent with the intrusion ages(ca.161–141 Ma)of the Jurassic to Cretaceous granitoids in this orogen,suggesting the initial collapse of the orogenic root of the Sulu belt occurred at Late Jurassic due to the Izanagi plate initially subducting beneath the margin of Eastern *** study sheds new light upon the utilization of SS-LASS petrochronology deciphering multiple anatectic events in the deeply-subducted continental crust and supports us in better understanding the tectonic evolution of Dabie-

Microneedle patch loaded with ferritin-nanocaged doxorubicin for locally targeted drug delivery and efficient skin cancer treatment

Ferritin has emerged as a promising nanocarrier for delivering therapeutic agents to ***,the limited drug loading and the off-target impacts after systemic administration remain challenges for cancer treatment with ferritin-based ***,we develop a microneedle patch loaded with ferritin-nanocaged doxorubicin(DoxFe@Fn/MN)for skin cancer ***,doxorubicin(Dox)is encapsulated in ferritin(Fn)using an iron core-assisted strategy,which results in a 3.4-fold increase in Dox loading compared to the direct loading ***,a polyvinyl alcohol-based microneedle(MN)patch is used for the transdermal delivery of DoxFe@Fn,enabling targeted tumour accumulation of DoxFe@Fn and preventing off-target *** released DoxFe@Fn can bind to CD71 highly expressed on skin cancer cells,facilitating its *** a result,the DoxFe@Fn/MN therapy presents a robust antitumour effect in a melanoma tumour model,showing its potential as a promising therapeutic modality for skin cancer treatment.

Elliptical vibration chiseling:a novel process for texturing ultra-high-aspect-ratio microstructures on the metallic surface

High-aspect-ratio metallic surface microstructures are increasingly demanded in breakthrough applications,such as high-performance heat transfer enhancement and surface plasmon ***,the fast and cost-effective fabrication of high-aspect-ratio microstructures on metallic surfaces remains challenging for existing *** study proposes a novel cutting-based process,namely elliptical vibration chiseling(EV-chiseling),for the high-efficiency texturing of surface microstructures with an ultrahigh aspect *** conventional cutting,EV-chiseling superimposes a microscale EV on a backward-moving *** tool chisels into the material in each vibration cycle to generate an upright chip with a high aspect ratio through material *** to the tool’s backward movement,the chip is left on the material surface to form a microstructure rather than falling *** one microstructure is generated in one vibration cycle,the process can be highly efficient using ultrafast(>1 kHz)tool vibration.A finite element analysis model is established to explore the process mechanics of ***,a mechanistic model of the microstructured surface generation is developed to describe the microstructures’aspect ratio dependency on the process ***,surface texturing tests are performed on copper to verify the efficacy of *** micro ribs with a spacing of 1–10μm and an aspect ratio of 2–5 have been successfully textured on *** with the conventional EV-cutting that uses a forward-moving tool,EV-chiseling can improve the aspect ratio of textured microstructure by up to 40 *** experimental results also verify the accuracy of the developed surface generation model of ***,the effects of elliptical trajectory,depth of cut,tool shape,and tool edge radius on the surface generation of micro ribs have been discussed.

Decohesion of graphene from a uniaxially-stretched substrate:Failure analysis of a frictional adhesive interface

Composite structures consisting of two-dimensional(2D)materials deposited on elastic substrates have a wide range of potential applications in flexible *** such devices,robust 2D film/substrate interfacial adhesion is essential for their reliable performance when subjected to external thermal and mechanical *** better understand the strength and failure behavior of the 2D film/substrate interfaces,two types of graphene/polymer samples with distinct interfacial adhesion properties are fabricated and tested by uniaxially stretching the *** on the interfacial adhesion,two drastically different debonding rates are observed,i.e.,rapid snap-through debonding and more progressive crack *** by the experimental observation,we propose an improved shear-lag model with a trapezoidal-shaped cohesive zone to derive an analytical solution for the decohesion *** theoretical model reveals that the decohesion behavior of the frictional adhesive interface is governed by three dimensionless ***,the dimensionless length of the film essentially determines the decohesion rate;while the other two parameters affect the critical substrate strain to initiate *** fitting the experimental data with the theoretical model,the intrinsic adhesion properties of the two samples are obtained with physically meaningful *** work offers an analytical solution to describing the decohesion behavior of general thin film/substrate systems with a frictional adhesive interface,which is beneficial for characterizing and optimizing the mechanical properties of various thin film/polymer devices.

Extrusion 3D printing of carbon nanotube-assembled carbon aerogel nanocomposites with high electrical conductivity

Carbon nanotubes(CNTs)with high aspect ratio and excellent electrical conduction offer huge functional improvements for current carbon ***,there remains a major challenge for achieving the on-demand shaping of carbon aerogels with tailored micro-nano structural textures and geometric ***,a facile extrusion 3D printing strategy has been proposed for fabricating CNT-assembled carbon(CNT/C)aerogel nanocomposites through the extrusion printing of pseudoplastic carbomer-based inks,in which the stable dispersion of CNT nanofibers has been achieved relying on the high viscosity of carbomer *** extrusion printing,the chemical solidification through polymerizing RF sols enables 3D-printed aerogel nanocomposites to display high shape fidelity in macroscopic *** from the micro-nano scale assembly of CNT nanofiber networks and carbon nanoparticle networks in composite phases,3D-printed CNT/C aerogels exhibit enhanced mechanical strength(fracture strength,0.79 MPa)and typical porous structure characteristics,including low density(0.220 g cm^(-3)),high surface area(298.4 m^(2)g^(-1)),and concentrated pore diameter distribution(~32.8nm).More importantly,CNT nanofibers provide an efficient electron transport pathway,imparting 3D-printed CNT/C aerogel composites with a high electrical conductivity of 1.49 S cm^(-1).Our work would offer feasible guidelines for the design and fabrication of shape-dominated functional materials by additive manufacturing.

Ds-echinoside A,a new triterpene glycoside derived from sea cucumber,exhibits antimetastatic activity via the inhibition of NF-κB-dependent MMP-9 and VEGF expressions

Ds-echinoside A (DSEA),a non-sulfated triterpene glycoside,was isolated from the sea cucumber Pearsonothuria *** vitro and in vivo investigations were conducted on the effects of DSEA on tumor cell adhesion,migration,invasion,and *** this study,we found that DSEA inhibited the proliferation of human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cells Hep G2,with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 2.65 μmol/L,and suppressed Hep G2 cell adhesion,migration,and invasion in a dose-dependent *** also reduced tube formation of human endothelial cells ECV-304 on matrigel in vitro and attenuated neovascularization in the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay in *** analysis revealed that DSEA significantly decreased the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9),which plays an important role in the degradation of basement membrane in tumor metastasis and *** also increased the protein expression level of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1),an important regulator of MMP-9 *** the results of Western blotting,the expressions of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were found to be remarkably reduced by *** findings suggest that DSEA exhibits a significant antimetastatic activity through the specific inhibition of NF-κB-dependent MMP-9 and VEGF expressions.
