Study on the protection of Er-doped phosphate glass waveguide surface in ion-exchange processing

A novel method, sputtering K9 glass film, is proposed to solve the surface corrosion of Er-doped phosphate glass during ion-exchange processing for optical waveguide fabrication. The corrosion causes are analyzed to be the intrinsically weak stabilization of phosphate glass structure, hydrophile and weakly acidic property of phosphate radical. Experimental results show that the K9 glass film could not only protect the Er-doped phosphate glass surface from being corroded but also give no influence on the waveguide fabrication. The effect of thickness of K9 glass film on the optical property of waveguide is also investigated and the op- timal thickness is found to be 60―80 nm. It provides a good base for further fabri- cation of active phosphate glass optical waveguide devices.

Both acrylate based polymer and silicone resin are proposed as recoating materials surrounding LPFGs for purposes of different applications. For the LPFG recoated with a thin layer of acrylate based polymer, the range of wavelength shift as much as 60nm is expected when temperature changes from 0～100℃. As for that with surrounding material of silicone resin, the temperature stability is greatly improved depicted as the maximum wavelength shift of about 0.6nm with the same temperature variation. The former is potentially a broadband tunable band rejection filter or temperature sensor with enhanced sensitivity. And the latter could be applied as temperature insensitive filter, demultiplexer or strain sensor.

The result of molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)-grown ridge-waveguide InGaAs/ InGaAsP/InP strained quantum well lasers at 2 μm wavelength is reported. The pulsed electrical luminescence spectrum at room temperature is observed with peak wavelength of about 1.98 μp. At 77 K the lasers become lasing in pulse regime, with threshold current of about 18- 30 mA, peak wavelength of about 1. 87 - 1. 91 μp, and single longitudinal mode operation in the current range of 160-230 mA.

Experimental Study on Friction in Ferrules during Compression Tuning of Fiber Bragg Grating

The effect of friction in ferules on compression tuning characteristics of fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) was observed and analyzed in this paper. It was demonstrated that the friction would make a non-uniform strain in the FBG and degradations of its reflection spectrum. To avoid the effect, some measures have been applied. Near 9 nm tuning range can be obtained with good spectral performance.

The influence of thermal effect on the energy conversion efficiency of concentrating photovoltaic system for multi-junction GaInP/GaAs/Ge thin-film solar cell is analyzed *** the increment of operation temperature,the maximal energy conversion efficiency and optimal loaded resistor will be *** the condition of operation temperature lower than 90℃.this influence of thermal effect is very ***,when the operation temperature exceeds 90℃,the maximal conversion efficiency of the cells will decrease sharply,and contrarily the corresponding optimal loaded resistor will increase *** the system performance will degenerate badly and a thermal management will be necessary.

The effective reflection area of a cube corner retroreflector is defined. It is testified for a cube corner retroreflector (CCR) that the ray reflected from a CCR is not parallel with the ray incident on the CCR undersurface. The effective reflection area of CCR is calculated when the ray incident on the CCR undersurface vertically, and the effective reflection area of a CCR is two thirds of the CCR undersurface.
