Quantifying in situ N2 fluxes from an intensively managed calcareous soil using the 15N gas-flux method

Denitrification-induced nitrogen(N) losses from croplands may be greatly increased by intensive ***,the accurate quantification of these losses is still challenging due to insufficient available in situ measurements of soil dinitrogen(N) *** carried out two one-week experiments in a maize-wheat cropping system with calcareous soil using theN gas-flux(NGF) method to measure in situ Nfluxes following urea *** ofN-labeled urea(99 atom%,130-150 kg N ha) were followed by irrigation on the 1 st,3 rd,and 5 th days after fertilization(DAF 1,3,and 5,respectively).The detection limits of the soil Nfluxes were 163-1 565,81-485,and 54-281 μg N mhfor the two-,four-,and six-hour static chamber enclosures,*** Nfluxes measured in 120 cases varied between 159 and 2 943(811 on average) μg N *** were higher than the detection limits,with the exception of only two *** Nfluxes at DAF 3 were significantly higher(by nearly 80%(P<0.01)) than those at DAF 1 and 5 in the maize experiment,while there were no significant differences among the irrigation times in the wheat *** Nfluxes and the ratios of nitrous oxide(NO) to the NO plus Nfluxes following urea application to maize were approximately 65% and 11 times larger,respectively(P<0.01),than those following urea application to *** differences could be mainly attributed to the higher soil water contents,temperatures,and availability of soil N substrates in the maize experiment than in the wheat *** study suggests that theNGF method is sensitive enough to measure in situ Nfluxes from intensively fertilized croplands with calcareous soils.

Causal Analysis Between Rice Growth and Cadmium Accumulation and Transfer under Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Inoculation

Cadmium(Cd)contamination in rice has been a serious threat to human *** investigate the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)on the Cd translocation in rice,a controlled pot experiment was *** results indicated that AMF significantly increased rice biomass,with an increase of up to 40.0%,particularly in root biomass by up to 68.4%.Notably,the number of prominent rice individuals also increased,and their plasticity was enhanced following AMF *** led to an increase in the net photosynthetic rate and antioxidant enzyme activity of *** the AMF treatment group,the Cd concentration in the rice roots was significantly higher(19.1%‒68.0%)compared with that in the control ***,the Cd concentration in the rice seeds was lower in the AMF treatment group,indicating that AMF facilitated the sequestration of Cd in rice roots and reduced Cd accumulation in the *** coefficients varied across different treatments,suggesting that AMF inoculation reduced the direct impact of soil Cd concentration on the total Cd accumulation in *** translocation of Cd was consistently associated with simultaneous growth dilution and compensatory accumulation as a result of mycorrhizal *** study quantitatively analyzed this process through path analysis and clarified the causal relationship between rice growth and Cd transfer under the influence of AMF.

Dynamics of soil inorganic nitrogen and their responses to nitrogen additions in three subtropical forests, south China

Three forests with different historical land-use, forest age, and species assemblages in subtropical China were selected to evaluate current soil N status and investigate the responses of soil inorganic N dynamics to monthly ammonium nitrate additions. Results showed that the mature monsoon evergreen broadleaved forest that has been protected for more than 400 years exhibited an advanced soil N status than the pine （Pinus massoniana） and pine-broadleaf mixed forests, both originated from the 1930＇s clear-cut and pine plantation. Mature forests had greater extractable inorganic N pool, lower N retention capacity, higher inorganic N leaching, and higher soil C/N ratios. Mineral soil extractable NH4^＋-N and NO3-N concentrations were significantly increased by experimental N additions on several sampling dates, but repeated ANOVA showed that the effect was not significant over the whole year except NH4^＋-N in the mature forest. In contrast, inorganic N （both NH4^＋-N and NO3^--N） in soil 20-cm below the surface was significantly elevated by the N additions. From 42% to 74% of N added was retained by the upper 20 cm soils in the pine and mixed forests, while 0%-70% was retained in the mature forest. Our results suggest that land-use history, forest age and species composition were likely to be some of the important factors that determine differing forest N retention responses to elevated N deposition in the study region.

Enrichment and reconfiguration of titanium-bearing phase in vortex smelting reduction process of vanadium-titanium magnetite

To comprehensively utilize the low-iron high-vanadium-titanium magnetite,a new method of vortex smelting reduction of vanadium-titanium magnetite was proposed,and the enrichment and reconstitution regularity of Ti-bearing phases in the slag was investigated through X-ray fluorescence spectrometry,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction analysis,and optical *** phase diagram revealed that the preferential crystallization of MgTi_(2)O_(5) can be achieved by adjusting the CaO,MgO,and TiO_(2) contents of *** predominant Ti-bearing phases in the slag obtained from the reduction process are MgxTi_(3_x)O_(5)(0≤x≤1)and CaTiO_(3).FeTiO_(3) is present at carbon-iron ratio(CR)=1.3,while MgTi_(2)O4 and TiC are formed at CR=*** enrichment of TiO_(2) in the slag increases first and then decreases as the CR increases,and at CR=1.1,the enrichment of TiO_(2) in the slag reaches 51.3 wt.%.Additionally,the concentrations of MgxTi_(3_x)O_(5)(0≤x≤1)and CaTiO_(3) in the slag,along with the grain width of MgxTi_(3_x)O_(5)(0≤x≤1),decrease with the increase in CR.

Soil Acidification in Response to Acid Deposition in Three Subtropical Forests of Subtropical China

Long-term changes in soil pH, the current status of soil acidification, and the response of bulk soil and soil water pH to experimental nitrogen addition under three subtropical forests were investigated in Dinghushan Biosphere Reserve of subtropical China. The results showed that the mineral soil pH at 0-20 cm depth declined significantly from 4.60-4.75 in 1980s to 3.84-4.02 in 2005. Nitrogen addition resulted in the decrease of pH in both bulk soil and soil water collected at 20-cm depth. The rapid decline of soil pH was attributed to long-term high atmospheric acid deposition (nitrogen and sulphur) therein. The forest at earlier succession stage with originally higher soil pH appeared to be more vulnerable to acid deposition than that at later succession stage with originally low soil pH.

Clinical application of the endometrial microbiota test combined with personalized treatment in patients with repeated implantation failure

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical value of the endometrial microbiota test (EMT) combined with personalized treatment in patients with repeated implantation failure (RIF).Methods: From March 2019 to August 2022, the clinical data of patients with RIF at the Reproductive Medicine Research Center of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 356 patients underwent the EMT using 16S rRNA sequencing and were included in the EMT group. The SPSS statistical software propensity score was set at 1:1 to match the age, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), antral follicle count (AFC), years of infertility, and body mass index (BMI) of the women who had not undergone the EMT; subsequently, 354 patients were classified in the non-EMT group. We compared the clinical characteristics of the two groups and analyzed the clinical pregnancy outcomes after personalized ***: The clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) of the EMT group was significantly higher than that of the non-EMT group (47.81%vs. 13.38%,P <0.05). Among 356 patients who underwent the EMT, 55 patients (15.45%) in group A with normal endometrial microbiota composition did not test positive for the pathogenic bacteria causing chronic endometritis, 34 patients (9.55%) in group B with abnormal endometrial microbiota composition did not test positive for the pathogenic bacteria causing chronic endometritis, 35 patients (9.83%) in group C with normal endometrial microbiota composition tested positive for the pathogenic bacteria causing chronic endometritis, and 232 patients (65.17%) in group D with abnormal endometrial microbiota composition tested positive for the pathogenic bacteria causing chronic endometritis. After administration of probiotics or antibiotic plus probiotics treatment, the pregnancy rates of groups C and D were higher than those of group A (44.00%vs. 20.00% and 55.03%vs. 20.00%, respectively; bothP <0.05).Conclusion:

Re-delocalization of localized d-electrons in VO_(2)(R)-VS_(4)hetero-structure enables high performance of rechargeable Mg-ion batteries

Rechargeable Mg-ion batteries(MIBs)have attracted much more attentions by virtue of the high capacity from the two electrons ***,the reversible Mg^(2+)diffusion in cathode materials is restricted by the strong interactions between the high-polarized bivalent Mg^(2+)ions and anionic ***,we design and propose a hetero-structural VO_(2)(R)-VS_(4)cathode,in which the re-delocalized d-electrons can effectively shield the polarity of Mg^(2+)***,the electrons should spontaneously transfer from VS_(4)to VO_(2)(R)through the interfaces of hetero-structure due to the lower work function value of VS_(4).Furthermore,the internal electrons transfer lead to the electronic injection into VO_(2)(R)from VS_(4)and the partially broken V-V dimers,indicating the presence of lone pair electrons and charge *** from the shield effect of re-delocalized electrons,and the weakened attraction between cations and O/S anions enables more S^(2-)-S_(2)^(2-)redox groups to participate the electrochemical reactions and compensate the double charge of Mg^(2+)***,VO_(2)(R)-VS_(4)hetero-structure exhibits a high specific capacity of 554 mA h g^(-1)at 50 mA g^(-1).It is believed that the charge re-delocalization of cathode extremely boost the Mg^(2+)ions migration for the high-capacity of MIBs.
