Effects of Predation by Invasive Western Mosquitofish(Gambusia affinis) on Survival of Eggs,Embryos and Tadpoles of Pelophylax nigromaculatus and Duttaphrynus melanostictus in South China

Alien species are one of the most serious threats to the decline and extinction of native amphibian populations. In this study, we examined the predation of invasive Western Mosquitofish Gambusia affinis on the eggs, embryos, and tadpoles of Duttaphrynus melanostictus and Pelophylax nigromaculatus in south China. Our results suggested that the survival of eggs and embryos remaining in the egg capsules of P. nigromaculatus and D. melanostictus was significantly higher than those removed from the egg capsule at 12-h intervals within 72 h in the presence of G. affinis. The survival of P. nigromaculatus eggs and embryos without egg capsules was significantly lower than those of D. melanostictus without egg capsules. The survival of P. nigromaculatus eggs and embryos with egg capsules was significantly higher than those of D. melanostictus with egg capsules from 24 h to 72 h except for 12 h. The survival of D. melanostictus tadpoles was significantly higher than that of P. nigromaculatus tadpoles in the presence of G. affinis. The survival of Gosner stage 26 tadpoles of P. nigromaculatus was significantly higher than that of Gosner stage 30 tadpoles from 12 h to 60 h, but there were no significant differences at 72 h. In contrast, the survival of Gosner stage 26 tadpoles of D. melanostictus was significantly lower than that of Gosner stage 30 tadpoles within 72 h, recording every 12 h. The increasing temperature caused a significant increase in predation by G. affinis on P. nigromaculatus eggs and embryos. The outer jelly capsule surrounding anurans eggs might serve as a mechanical defense against predation by G. affinis due to its large diameter, relatively stationary state and unpalatability. The differences in the vulnerability of P. nigromaculatus and D. melanostictus embryos and tadpoles to G. affinis probably due to differences in the unpalatability, black skin and activity. Kinetics of order-disorder transition at antiphase domain boundary （APDB） formed between L12 （Ni3A1） phases is investigated using microscopic phase-field model. The results demonstrate that whether order-disorder transition happens or not depends on the atomic structure of the APDB. Accompanied with the enrichment of V and depletion of Ni and A1, the ordered APDB with phase-shift vector of a/2[100] transforms into a thin disordered phase layer. Whereas at the APDB with phase shift vector of a/2[110], which remains ordered with temporal evolution, Ni and A1 enrich and V depletes. Composition evolution of APDB with order-disorder transition favors the nucleation of DO22 phase, and the formation of disordered phase layer accelerates the growth of DO22 phase. The disordered phase caused by order-disordered transition of the APDB can be considered as the transient phase along the precipitation path of DO22 phase.

The rapid development of radar antenna systems to meet requirements for high integration and precision places stringent requirements on the dielectric properties,mechanical properties and heat resistance of wave-transparent composite *** this paper,poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole)(PBO)fibers are first dissolved by trifluoroacetic acid/methyl sulfonic acid to obtain PBO nanofibers(PNF),and the amino polysilsesquioxane(NH_(2)-POSS)is dispersed uniformly inside the PNF via ultrasonic-assisted and *** POSS-PNF composite paper is fabricated by the method of“suction filtration and hot-pressing”.Because of the uniformly dispersion of NH_(2)-POSS,the POSS-PNF composite paper has a low dielectric constant(ε,2.08)and dielectric loss tangent(tanδ,0.0047),and the wave-transparent coefficient(|T|2)is 96.7%(1 MHz),which is higher than that of PNF paper(95.5%,1 MHz).Additionally,the POSS-PNF composite paper possesses excellent tensile strength of 163.3 MPa,tensile modulus of 6.9 GPa,toughness of 9.1 MJ/m^(3),outstanding flame retardancy and excellent UV aging *** to a simulation of the radome honeycomb panel,POSS-PNF composite paper has low loss and reflections of electromagnetic waves in the X-band(8.4~12.4 GHz),and wide angle of incidence(0°-80°),which favor high|T|*** results indicate that the POSS-PNF composite paper has excellent potential for applications in the fields of aerospace,wearable flexible electronic devices and 5G communication.

Bisphenol A dicyanate ester resins modified by fluorine-containing liquid crystal compound(LCFE)are applied as polymer matrix(LCFE-BADCy),poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole)(PBO)fibers as rein-forcements,and fluorine/adamantane PBO precursor(pre FABPBO)as interfacial compatibilizer to prepare the corresponding PBO fibers/FABPBO/LCFE-BADCy wave-transparent laminated *** could improve the order degree of BADCy cured network,in favor of enhancing the wave-transparent perfor-mance,mechanical properties,and intrinsic thermal *** dielectric constant and dielectric loss of PBO fibers/FABPBO/LCFE-BADCy composites are highly temperature(25–200℃)and frequency(10^(4)–10^(7) Hz and 8.2–12.4 GHz)stable with the value of 2.49 and 0.003 under 10^(6) Hz at 25℃,and the corresponding wave transmission efficiency is 95.0%,higher than that of 92.5%for PBO fibers/BADCy *** interlamellar shear strength and flexural strength are respectively 50.7 MPa and 682.5 MPa,38.1%and 16.2%higher than those of PBO fibers/BADCy ***,the volume resistivity,breakdown voltage,heat resistance index,glass transition temperature,flame retardant grade,and ul-timate oxygen index of PBO fibers/FABPBO/LCFE-BADCy composites are respectively 5.3×10^(15)Ωcm,29.75 kV/mm,217.2℃,245.7℃,V-1 grade,and 33.6%,expected to be performed as a new generation of“lightweight/loading/wave-transparent”electromagnetic window materials in advanced military weapons and civil communication base station.

Kinship and density are believed to affect important ecological processes such as intraspecific competition, predation, growth, development, cannibalism, habitat selection and mate choice, In this work, we used Chinese tiger frog Hoplobatrachus chinensis tadpoles as an experimental model to investigate the effects of kinship and density on growth and development of this species over a 73 day period. The results showed that density can affect the growth and developmental traits （survival rate, larval period, size at the limb bud protrusion/metamorphic climax and body mass at different life stages） of H. chinensis tadpoles, while kinship does not. Tadpoles took longer to develop and potential metamorphosis was greater in high density groups of both sibling and non-siblings. The interaction of kinship and density did not significantly influenced growth traits of H. chinensis tadpoles during the experimental period. For coefficient variations of each growth trait, no differences were detected between sibling and non-sibling groups. These findings provide valuable information on the basic ecology of H. chinensis which will be helpful in future studies of other anuran species.

Surface moisture or humidity impacting the lubrication property is a ubiquitous phenomenon in tribological systems,which is demonstrated by a combination of molecular dynamics(MD)simulation and experiment for the organic friction modifier(OFM)-containing *** stearic acid and poly-α-olefin 4cSt(PAO4)were chosen as the OFM and base oil molecules,*** physical adsorption indicates that on the moist surface water molecules are preferentially adsorbed on friction surface,and even make OFM adsorption film thoroughly leave surface and mix with base *** shear process,the adsorption of water film and desorption OFM film are further enhanced,particularly under higher shear *** simulated friction coefficient(that is proportional to shear rate)increases firstly and then decreases with thickening water film,in good agreement with experiments,while the slip length shows a contrary *** wear increases with humidity due to tribochemistry revealing the continuous formation and removal of Si–O–Si *** tribological discrepancy of OFM-containing lubricant in dry and humid conditions is attributed to the slip plane’s transformation from the interface between OFM adsorption film and lubricant bulk to the interface between adsorbed water *** work provides a new thought to understand the boundary lubrication and failure of lubricant in humid environments,likely water is not always harmful in oil lubrication systems.

Advertisement calls play an important role in influencing female mate choice and are regarded as one of the key characters responsible for reproductive isolation and speciation events in frogs and toads. The black-spined toad, Bufo melanostictus, is one of the most common amphibians in Southeast Asia and is frequently observed in human habitations throughout its distributional range. The advertisement calls of the toad have not been well described. Here, we report the advertisement calls of this species from Lishui, Zhejiang, China during its breeding season. The advertisement calls of B. melanostictus are composed of single notes with a single harmonic frequency emitted sporadically. The call parameters recorded in this study were highly variable across recording times and with different body sizes. Dominant frequency was negatively correlated with body size. Comparing the calls of the B. melanostictus population from Lishui with the populations from five other localities(Bangkok, Thailand; Coorg, India; Burma, Myanmar; Bali, Indonesia; Halimun-Salak National Park, Indonesia), we found that call structure was similar among five different populations with no harmonics, while the Halimun-Salak National Park population contained two clear harmonics. Dominant frequency was similar between Bali(1.56 kHz) and Coorg(1.6 kHz) populations, while it was highly variable among other populations. Besides call duration, call interval and pulse/call rate may also be significantly different among the comparing populations. Pooling the available data, we observed some similarities and differences in call parameters among the six populations.

Comprehensive Summary Branched fluorine/adamantane PBO precursor(preFABPBO),synthesized via random co-condensation between 2,2-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoro propane,1,3-adamantanedicarbonyl dichloride,and trimesoyl chloride,is performed as interfacial compatibilizer,bisphenol A dicyanate ester(BADCy)resin as polymer matrix,and poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole)(PBO)fibers as reinforcements to prepare PBO fibers/FABPBO-BADCy wave-transparent laminated composites by high temperature *** mechanical properties,wave-transparent performances,and heat resistances of PBO fibers/BADCy composites are simultaneously improved by the addition of *** interlaminar shear strength(ILSS)and flexural strength of PBO fibers/FABPBO-BADCy composites are 48.9 and 665.3 MPa,respectively,increased by 33.2%and 13.3%compared to those of PBO fibers/BADCy composites(36.7 and 587.4 MPa).The dielectric constant and dielectric loss values at 106 Hz are 2.53 and 0.003,respectively,lower than those of PBO fibers/BADCy composites(3.06 and 0.006),and the corresponding wave transmission efficiency is 94.8%,which also presents excellent stability over the wide temperature(25-200℃)and frequency range(103-107 Hz and 8.2-12.4 GHz).Meanwhile,the heat resistance index and glass transition temperature are 229.9℃and 247.5℃,also better than those of PBO fibers/BADCy composites(229.6℃and 247.1℃).
