Application of Micronutrients in Rice-Wheat Cropping System of South Asia

Rice-wheat cropping system (RWCS) is one of the most important cropping systems in South Asia. However, sustainability of this system is under threat owing to several factors, of which deficiency of micronutrients particularly zinc (Zn), boron (B) and manganese (Mn) is one of the major problems. Continuous rotation of rice and wheat, imbalanced fertilizer use and little/no use of micronutrient-enriched fertilizers induce deficiencies of Zn, B and Mn in the RWCS of South Asia. Here we review that (i) imbalanced fertilizer use and organic matter depletion deteriorate soil structure resulting in low efficiency of applied macro- and micro-nutrients in RWCS.(ii) The micronutrients (Zn, B and Mn) are essentially involved in metabolism of rice and wheat plants, including chlorophyll synthesis, photosynthesis, enzyme activation and membrane integrity.(iii) Availability and uptake of Zn, B and Mn from rhizosphere depend on the physico-chemical soil properties (which differ under aerobic and anaerobic conditions) including soil pH, soil organic matter, soil moisture and interaction of these micronutrients with other nutrients.(iv) Plant ability to uptake and utilize the nutrients is affected by several plant factors such as root architecture, root hairs, transport kinetics parameter and root exudates.(v) Crop management and application of these microelements can help correct the micronutrients deficiency and enhance their grain concentration.

In order to support users to search and browse for various resources, digital libraries are composed of discovery systems which provide user interface and information retrieve system. Recent researches in Information Retrieval have investi- gated different techniques through improving precision and recall to enhance the effectiveness of discovery system in digital libraries. In this paper, we present our work to enhance discovery system effectiveness with a different approach, through resource discovery based on visual knowledge navigation. In our Strand Map Services project under National Science Digital Library, we introduce the visual resource discovery system called conceptual browsing interfaces, to help educators and learners to locate, comprehend and use educational resources in digital libraries. The paper begins with a short introduction of the Strand Map Services. Then we illustrate the service architecture, the design and implementation of its major components. We will focus our discussion of how the visualization system of the Strand Map Services supports the visual knowledge navigation for distributed digital libraries. This includes the knowledge acquisition of the conceptual browsing interfaces, different knowledge representa- tions in the system perspective and user interface perspective, visualization system modules, algorithm and Web services inte- gration to use visual knowledge navigation to enhance resource discovery in digital libraries.

Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is one of the most widespread infections in humans worldwide that chronically infects up to 50% of the world's population. The infection is involved in the pathogenesis of chronic active gastritis, peptic ulcer, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma and gastric cancer, therefore, it has been classified as class Ⅰ definite carcinogen by the World Health Organization. Despite the established etiological role of H. pylori, its actual distribution and association with related diseases is controversial and there is a large intercountry variation especially among Asian countries. H. pylori infection is more frequent in developing countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh as compared to developed Asian countries like Japan, China and South Korea. However, the frequency of gastric cancer is comparatively lower in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh with that of Japan, China and South Korea. Such phenomenon of clinical diversity, defined as enigma, is judged by genetic variability of the infecting H. pylori strains, differences in the host genetic background in various ethnic groups, and environmental factors such as dietary habits. Most of the studies have so far focused on the bacterial factor while environmental issues, including dietary components, were not given due attention as one of the factors related with H. pylori associated gastric carcinogenesis. The dietary factor has been suggested to play an important role in H. pylori related carcinogenesis, and in this respect several studies have corroborated the intake of various dietary components as modulatory factors for gastric cancer risk. In this review, such studies, from in vitro experiments to clinical trials, are being focused in detail with respect to enigma associated with H. pylori. It may be conceivably concluded from the available evidence that dietary factor can be a game changer in the scenario of Asian enigma, particularly in high risk population infected with virulen

Although the Software-Defined Network(SDN)is a well-controlled and efficient network but the complexity of open flow switches in SDN causes multiple *** solutions have been proposed so far for the prevention of errors and mistakes in it but yet,there is still no smooth transmission of pockets from source to destination specifically when irregular movements follow the destination host in SDN,the errors include packet loss,data compromise *** accuracy of packets received at their desired destination is possible if networks for pockets and hosts are monitored instead of analysis of network snapshot statistically for the state,as these approaches with open flow switches,discover bugs after their *** article proposes a design to achieve the said objective by defining the Intelligent Transmission Control Layer(ITCL)*** monitors all the connections of end hosts at their specific locations and performs necessary settlements when the connection state changes for one or multiple *** layer informs the controller regarding any state change at one period and controller collects information of end nodes reported via ***,updates flow tables accordingly to accommodate a location-change scenario with a routechange *** is organized on prototype-based implementation using the popular POX *** this paper,it has been discovered that ITCL produces efficient performance in the trafficking of packets and controlling different states of SDN for errors and packet loss.

Three bacterial strains Bacillus pumilis, Cellulosimicrobium cellulans and ExtguoOactertum were investigated when grown in Luria-Bertani （LB） medium at 500 μg/mL Cr（VI）. The hexavalent chromium reduction was measured by growing the strains in DeLeo and Ehrlich （1994） medium at 200 and 400 μg/mL K2CrO4. The optimal Cr （VI） reduction by strains B. pumilis, Exigubacterium and C. cellulans was 51%, 39%, and 41%, respectively, at an initial KzCrO4 concentration of 200 ~tg/mL at pH 3 and temperature 37℃. At an initial chromate concentration of 400 gg/mL, the Cr（VI） reduction by strains B. purnilis, Exigubacterium and C. cellulans was 24%, 19%, and 18%, respectively at pH 3 at 37℃ after 24 h. These strains have ability to reduce toxic hexavalent chromium to the less mobile trivalent chromium at a wide range of different environmental conditions and can be useful for the treatment of contaminated wastewater and soils.

Kalapi(Kalappia celebica)is an endemic legume of Sulawesi and has been included in the endangered category since the early *** of the species is possible through ex situ culture *** mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)can accelerate plant growth which in turn supports the conservation of endangered *** study aimed to assess the efficacy of local AMF to accelerate the growth of kalapi and increase nutrient uptake in kalapi grown in gold mine tailing *** were three AMF treatments,Glomus claroideum,Glomus coronatum,and a mixture of both,plus the *** treatment was replicated three times,each consisting of five *** results show that the highest AMF colony was obtained by kalapi seedlings inoculated with Glomus coronatum and the mixture of *** range of mycorrhizae inoculation effect values was 59.7–71.3%.AMF inoculation increased growth and dry weight of 4-month-old seedlings compared to *** and total weights of kalapi inoculated with *** were significantly different from those inoculated with the AMF ***,they are not significantly different from kalapi inoculated with *** results also show that AMF increased nitrogen and phosphorous uptake by the roots,as well as nitrogen,phosphorous,potassium,manganese and iron by the *** AMF treatments decreased potassium uptake in the roots,except in kalapi inoculated with *** AMF mixture decreased iron contents the roots by 15%.AMF can be developed into biofertilizer to support the conservation of kalapi in tropical Indonesia.
