Optical emission spectroscopy is used to investigate the nitrogen-hydrogen with trace rare gas （4% Ar） plasma generated by 50 Hz pulsed DC discharges. The filling pressure varies from 1 mbar to 5 mbar and the current density ranges from 1 mA-cm-2 to 4 ***-2. The hydrogen concentration in the mixture plasma varies from 0% to 80%, with the objective of identifying the optimum pressure, current density and hydrogen concentration for active species （[N] and IN2]） generation. It is observed that in an N2-H2 gas mixture, the concentration of N atom density decreases with filling pressure and increases with current density, with other parameters of the discharge kept unchanged. The maximum concentrations of active species were found for 40% H2 in the mixture at 3 mbar pressure and current density of 4 ***-2.

Technologies that can efficiently identify citrus diseases would assure fruit quality and safety and minimize losses for citrus *** research was aimed to investigate the potential of using color texture features for detecting citrus peel diseases.A color imaging system was developed to acquire RGB images from grapefruits with normal and five common diseased peel conditions(i.e.,canker,copper burn,greasy spot,melanose,and wind scar).A total of 39 image texture features were determined from the transformed hue(H),saturation(S),and intensity(I)region-of-interest images using the color co-occurrence method for each fruit *** for selecting useful texture features were developed based on a stepwise discriminant analysis,and 14,9,and 11 texture features were selected for three color combinations of HSI,HS,and I,*** models were constructed using the reduced texture feature sets through a discriminant function based on a measure of the generalized squared *** model using 14 selected HSI texture features achieved the best classification accuracy(96.7%),which suggested that it would be best to use a reduced hue,saturation and intensity texture feature set to differentiate citrus peel *** classification accuracy and standard deviation were 96.0%and 2.3%,respectively,for a stability test of the classification model,indicating that the model is robust for classifying new fruit samples according to their peel *** research demonstrated that color imaging and texture feature analysis could be used for classifying citrus peel diseases under the controlled laboratory lighting conditions.

The role of melatonin on sperm function as well as its use as antioxidant for sperm conservation is analysed in this review. Melatonin has been included in the cooling/freezing media for the conservation of spermatozoa. Depending on the animal species, the best dose to improve sperm quality and fertile capacity is in the range from 0.01 mM to 3.00 mM. Since the work started on the use of melatonin as antioxidant for the conservation of spermatozoa (2011), a search for references was done on the subject using internet and our university libraries: journals, proceedings, thesis,etc. The search focused on animal spermatozoa, but a collection of papers on human spermatozoa was also carried out.

The issues of safety and efficacy of certain vaccines remains extremely contentious. The venues for this debate have included periodicals, documentary films, and an ever-increasing number of on-line sites. While debate in science is not only a common occurrence but a fundamental tenet of the scientific community, it only works when divergent opinions can be heard. When those who hold an opposing opinion are denigrated and/or marginalized by those holding the majority opinion such as in the issue of vaccination, where cultural authority for the issue is owned by the profession of medicine, both science and the public lose. What is often forgotten are the benefits derived from the questioning of drug safety that not only extends to the public but to physicians who rely on the truthfulness and accuracy of the information that is being supplied to them by manufactures and government agencies. While most physicians believe they are functioning in their patient’s best interest when making vaccine recommendations, these recommendations by in large have become a matter of rote and are made because most physicians have bought into the “vaccines are safe” mantra. What most physicians don’t realize is they have unknowingly been recruited by big pharma to assist in shutting down the vaccination debate. This suppression of vaccine opposition even among academics, is becoming more commonplace and will lead down a slippery slope that will silence opposition science, and the dangers that come with this. Those who question vaccine safety have been ostracized, misquoted and even made to appear mentally ill by those who hold the majority opinion on the issue. Physicians who question vaccine safety have had their licenses threatened or have been fired from positions. Tactics such as name calling and the use of terms such as pseudo-science, (even when the evidence being presented is from widely accepted peer-reviewed journals) or “conspiracy theorists” which has the effect of placing th

Thirteen extensively characterised grain sorghum varieties were evaluated in a series of 7 broiler bioassays. The efficiency of energy utilisation of broiler chickens offered sorghum-based diets is problematic and the bulk of dietary energy is derived from sorghum starch. for this reason, rapid visco-analysis(RVA)starch pasting profiles were determined as they may have the potential to assess the quality of sorghum as a feed grain for chicken-meat production. In review, it was found that concentrations of kafirin and total phenolic compounds were negatively correlated with peak and holding RVA viscosities to significant extents across 13 sorghums. In a meta-analysis of 5 broiler bioassays it was found that peak, holding,breakdown and final RVA viscosities were positively correlated with ME:GE ratios and peak and breakdown RVA viscosities with apparent metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen(AMEn) to significant extents. In a sixth study involving 10 sorghum-based diets peak, holding and breakdown RVA viscosities were positively correlated with ME:GE ratios and AMEn. Therefore, it emerged that RVA starch pasting profiles do hold promise as a relatively rapid means to assess sorghum quality as a feed grain for chicken-meat production. This potential appears to be linked to quantities of kafirin and total phenolic compounds present in sorghum and it would seem that both factors depress RVA starch viscosities in vitro and, in turn, also depress energy utilisation in birds offered sorghum-based diets. Given that other feed grains do not contain kafirin and possess considerably lower concentrations of phenolic compounds, their RVA starch pasting profiles may not be equally indicative.

This work presents the development of a test rig(tractor pulled)for measurement of motion resistance of towed narrow wheels with a view to obtaining new design information to enhance the use of narrow wheels as traction members for low cost agricultural machines affordable by the low income earners or rural populace whose occupation is predominantly *** narrow wheels that can be used on the developed test rig are pneumatic bicycle wheels of different sizes,rigid bicycle wheel,motorcycle wheel and lugged-rigid wheel for a planting *** towing force which is equal to the motion resistance will be measured by the Mecmesin Basic force Gauge(BfG)with a maximum capacity of 2.5 kN installed on the test *** gauge is connected to a notebook with a Dataplot program to record the towing force and import the measured force per unit time to the spread sheet for further *** test rig comprises two parts,one part holding the wheel and the second part hitched to the tractor,in between the two is the BfG to measure the towing force and it is RS-232 interfaced to notebook *** test rig is designed for field use on different terrains to make comparison and obtain enough data to assist in the design and development of narrow wheel agricultural *** effect of the different wheel sizes,axle loads and inflation pressures on the motion resistance of the test wheels can be investigated easily using the developed test rig.
