Radar Absorbing Materials(RAM)are a class of composites that can attenuate incident electromagnetic waves to avoid radar *** carbon allotropes that have the potential to be used as RAM are either carbon nano-tubes(CNTs),graphene,carbon black(CB)and ultimately,sustainable porous carbon(SPC).Here,black wattle bark waste(following tannin extraction)was used as a sustainable source to produce SPC made from biomass *** was characterized and used as afiller for a silicone rubber matrix to produce aflexible *** elec-tromagnetic performance of this composite was compared with composites made with commercial CB and CNT through reflection loss(RL),where-10 dB is equivalent to 90%of *** composites were evaluated in single-layer,double-layer,and as radar absorbing structures(RAS)with the aim of improving their effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)performances and a reduction in *** CNT composite presented a RL of-26.85 dB at 10.89 GHz and an EAB of 2.6 GHz with a 1.9 mm thickness,while the double-layer structures using CNT and SPC provided a RL of-19.74 dB at 10.75 GHz and an EAB of 2.51 ***,the double-layer structures are~42%cheaper than the composite using only CNT since less material is ***,the largest EAB was achieved with a RAS using SPC,reaching~2.8 GHz and a RL of-49.09 dB at 10.4 ***,SPC made of black wattle bark waste can be a competitive,alternative material for use as RAM and RAS since it is cheaper,sustainable,and suitable for daily life uses such as absorbers for anechoic chambers,sensors,and elec-tromagnetic interference shields for electronics,wallets,vehicles,and others.

One of the possible ways to optimize the productive performance of poultry is through the physical processing of ingredients,which can improve the use of nutrients in these *** this context,this study was to evaluate the effects of different corn particle sizes in diets on the productive performance and egg quality of semi-heavy laying *** naked neck laying hens were used from 24 weeks of age and distributed in a completely randomized *** diets in different treatments contained corn grain ground into sieves with a diameter of 2,4,or 8 mm to provide corn particles with a geometric mean diameter(GMD) of 605(fine),1,030(medium),and 2,280 μm(coarse),*** feed and leftovers were weighed daily throughout the experimental period to determine the feed intake and feed *** corn particle sizes did not affect any aspect of the productive performance of hens,except for feed *** fed fine and medium corn particles exhibited higher values for egg yolk color,eggshell weight,and eggshell *** is suggested that semi-heavy laying hens should be fed mash diets containing corn particles with GMD from 605 to 1,030 μm,because coarse corn particles cause a negative effect on eggshell quality.

Acute hepatitis is a very rare, but potentially fatal, adverse effect of intravenous amiodarone. We present a case of an 88-year-old man with history of ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy and severely depressed left ventricular function that was admitted to our coronary care unit with diagnosis of decompensated heart failure and non-sustained ventricular tachycardia. A few hours after the beginning of intravenous amiodarone he developed an acute hepatitis. There was a completely recovery within the next days after amiodarone withdrawn and other causes of acute hepatitis have been ruled out. This case highlights the need for close monitoring of hepatic function during amiodarone infusion in order to identify any potential hepatotoxicity and prevent a fatal outcome. Oral amiodarone is, apparently, a safe option in these patients.

Droughts that occurred in selected areas located in homogeneous regions of South America during the austral springs(SON)and summers(DJf)from 1982 to 2019 are identified using the Standard Precipitation Index(SPI).four areas were analyzed for droughts in SON,and three areas were analyzed for droughts in *** areas in the Amazon suffered from the majority of their droughts during El Niño years,while most of the droughts in the areas of southern Brazil,Uruguay,and North Argentina occurred during La Niña *** southeastern and central-western parts of Brazil,droughts occurred during both phases of El Nino-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and also during neutral ***,other processes besides ENSO are likely related to the observed *** droughts were investigated for each area and month,and composites of atmospheric and oceanic variables during both seasons were analyzed for the selected *** and large-scale field composites were examined to identify the main processes associated with dry conditions in the different *** features were related to the influence of high pressure over southern and southeastern areas and the divergence of moisture flux in all *** circulations contributed to subsidence over the dry *** large-scale influential features include SST anomalies,wavetrains over the South Pacific Ocean with centers of action over South America that produced subsidence in the study areas,and convection anomalies in the Maritime continent and surrounding ***,the droughts were associated with a combination of regional and large-scale features that produced subsidence over the analyzed regions.

The ability of endothelial cells to respond to blood flow is fundamental for the correct formation and maintenance of a functional and hierarchically organized vascular *** flow responses,in particular related to high flow conditions,have been associated with atherosclerosis,stroke,arteriovenous malformations,and neurodegenerative ***,the molecular mechanisms involved in high flow response are still poorly ***,we described the development and validation of a 96-wells fluidic system,with interchangeable cell culture and fluidics,to perform high-throughput screenings under laminar high-flow *** demonstrated that endothelial cells in our newly developed 96-wells fluidic system respond to fluid flow-induced shear stress by aligning along the flow direction and increasing the levels of KLf2 and *** further demonstrate that our 96-wells fluidic system allows for efficient gene knock-down compatible with automated liquid handling for high-throughput screening ***,we propose that this modular 96-well fluidic system is an excellent platform to perform genome-wide and/or drug screenings to identify the molecular mechanisms involved in the responses of endothelial cells to high wall shear stress.

Seed germination with selenium(Se)is promising for producing Se-biofortiﬁed ***(Vigna radiata(L.)Wilczek)sprout is freshly eaten as a salad dressed with sauce,making it superior for Se biofortiﬁ*** the Se safety range for the human body is extremely narrow,it is imperative to evaluate the genotypic responses of mungbean sprouts to *** study evaluated the Se enrichment capacity and interaction withﬂavonoids and antioxidant systems in sprouts of 20 mungbean *** treatment was done by immersing mung-bean seeds in 20μM sodium selenite solution for 8 ***,the biomass,Se amounts,ﬂavonoid(particularly vitexin and isovitexin)contents,antioxidant capacity,and key biosynthetic gene expressions were *** Se content was 2.0-7.0μg g^(-1) DW among the 20 mungbean *** treatment differentially affected the biomass,totalﬂavonoid,vitexin,isovitexin,antioxidant enzyme activities,and antioxidant capacities of the mungbean *** germplasms showed increased biomass(pf vitexin and isovitexin increment after Se treatment,the highest measuring 2.67-and 2.87-folds for vitexin and isovitexin,*** mungbeanﬂavonoid biosynthesis genes,chalcone synthase(VrCHS)and chalcone isomerase(VrCHI)were signiﬁcantly up-regulated in the germplasms with increased vitexin and isovitexin levels(pful Se-biofortiﬁed food,but the Se enrichment capacity and nutritional response must be determined for each germplasm before commercialization.

Intensive agricultural and industrial activities are often considered major sources of water ***,riparian vegetation(RV)is increasingly being promoted as a solution to balance the potentially adverse effects that agriculture may have on water ***,existing RV is often overlook in recent modelling efforts,failing to capture the current amount of ecosystem services ***,we used the Soil and Water Assessment Tool ecohydrological model to simulate the influence of ground-true RV on i)nutrient(nitrate and total phosphorus)and sediment exports from agricultural areas and ii)its effect for in-stream *** results are further compared against a set of hypothetical scenarios of different RV widths and different *** results point to a great rele-vance of existing RV in controlling in-stream concentration of sediments and nutrients where pressure from agriculture is highest,preventing them to surpass limits set in the EU Water framework *** the other hand,in areas with industry discharges,the role of RV is limited and model results suggest that restoring RV would have limited *** illustrate how existing RV may already provide strong but not acknowledged water quality regulation services,how these services can differ substantially between nearby streams,and that effective strategies to improve water quality using RV must acknowledge existing patterns of vegetation,land use and contamination sources.
