A long-term field experiment was carried out in the experiment farm of the Sao Paulo State University,Brazil,to evaluate the phytoavailability of Zn,Cd and Pb in a Typic Eutrorthox soil treated with sewage sludge for nine consecutive years,using the sequential extraction and organic matter fractionation *** 2005-2006,maize(Zea mays L.) was used as test plants and the experimental design was in randomized complete blocks with four treatments and five *** treatments consisted of four sewage sludge rates(in a dry basis):0.0(control,with mineral fertilization),45.0,90.0 and 127.5 t ha-1,annually for nine *** maize sowing,the sewage sludge was manually applied to the soil and incorporated at 10 cm *** samples(0-20 cm layer) for Zn,Cd and Pb analysis were collected 60 days after *** successive applications of sewage sludge to the soil did not affect heavy metal(Cd and Pb) fractions in the soil,with exception of Zn *** Zn,Cd and Pb distributions in the soil were strongly associated with humin and residual fractions,which are characterized by stable chemical ***,Cd and Pb in the soil showed low phytoavailability after nine-year successive applications of sewage sludge to the soil.

This paper reports the design,implementation,and experimental phases of the EU H2020 QualiChain pilot“Staffing the Public Sector—The Case of Portugal”.The overall purpose of this pilot is to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the diplomas for all involved stakeholders and therefore to contribute to solving the diploma counterfeiting and/or falsification that is a great threat to the recruitment of qualified *** main innovative aspect of this solution is the integration that is offered between an Academic Management System(the *** platform)and a Blockchain(Ethereum)to automatically deploy *** solution helps the involved stakeholders trust the diplomas *** case study involves four different stakeholders and studies,specifically,the increase in their satisfaction in terms of diploma control,diploma veracity,and diploma *** developed system was tested with external participants who were asked to follow a set of guidelines and complete a survey to assess their *** system interactions were recorded,and the data were *** results indicated that the participants successfully executed the guidelines and that a perception increase toward diploma control,veracity,and credibility was identified.

In recent years there is a growing importance in using machine learning techniques to improve procedures in precision agriculture:in this work we perform a study on models capable of predicting oenological parameters from hyperspectral images of wine grape berries,a specially relevant topic to boost production tasks for ***,we explore the capabilities of a novel technique mostly used for visualization,t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding(t-SNE),for reducing the dimensionality of the highly complex hyperspectral data and compare its performance with Principal Component Analysis(PCA)method,which despite the introduction of many nonlinear dimensionality reduction techniques over the years,had achieved the best results for real-world data across several studies in *** we explore the potential of Kernel t-SNE,an extension to the t-SNE method that allows for the usage of the technique in streaming data or online *** results show that,in a direct comparison,t-SNE achieves better metrics than PCA for most of the data sets in this work and that the regressor(Support Vector Regression,SVR)performs better with the t-SNE reduced features as inputs,accomplishing better predictions with lower error *** the results with current literature,our shallow learning model paired with t-SNE achieves either better or on par results than those reported,even competing with more advanced models that use deep learning techniques,which should propel the introduction of t-SNE in more studies that require dimensionality reduction.

Brazilian industry produces huge amounts of tannery sludge as residues,which is often disposed by landfilling or land ***,consecutive amendment of such composted industrial wastes may cause shifts in soil microbial biomass(SMB) and enzyme *** study aimed to evaluate SMB and enzyme activity after 3-year consecutive composted tannery sludge(CTS) amendment in tropical sandy *** amounts of CTS(0.0,2.5,5.0,10.0,and 20.0 t ha^(-1)) were applied to a sandy *** C and N contents of SMB,basal and substrate-induced respiration,respiratory quotient(qCO_2),and enzyme activities were determined in the soil samples collected after CTS amendment for 60 d at the third *** 3 years,significant changes were found in soil microbial properties in response to different CTS amounts *** organic matter and Cr contents significantly increased with increasing CTS *** and soil respiration peaked following amendment with 10.0 and 20.0 t ha-1 of CTS,respectively,while qCO_2was not significantly affected by CTS ***,soil enzyme activity decreased significantly with increasing CTS *** CTS amendment for 3 years showed inconsistent and contrasting effects on SMB and enzyme *** decrease in soil enzyme activities was proportional to a substantial increase in soil Cr concentration,with the latter exceeding the permitted concentrations by more than ***,our results suggest that a maximum CTS quantity of 5.0 t ha^(-1) can be applied annually to tropical sandy soil,without causing potential risks to SMB and enzyme activity.

Direct oxidation of methane at low temperature using Pt/C,Pd/C,Pt/C-ATO and Pd/C-ATO electrocatalysts prepared by sodium borohydride reduction process

The main objective of this paper was to characterize the voltammetric profiles of the Pt/C,Pt/C-ATO,Pd/C and Pd/CATO electrocatalysts and study their catalytic activities for methane oxidation in an acidic electrolyte at 25 ℃ and in a direct methane proton exchange membrane fuel cell at 80 ℃. The electrocatalysts prepared also were characterized by X-ray diffraction( XRD) and transmission electron microscopy( TEM). The diffractograms of the Pt/C and Pt/C-ATO electrocatalysts show four peaks associated with Pt face-centered cubic( fcc) structure,and the diffractograms of Pd/C and Pd/C-ATO show four peaks associated with Pd face-centered cubic( fcc) structure. for Pt/C-ATO and Pd/C-ATO,characteristic peaks of cassiterite( SnO_2) phase are observed,which are associated with Sb-doped SnO_2( ATO) used as supports for electrocatalysts. Cyclic voltammograms( CV) of all electrocatalysts after adsorption of methane show that there is a current increase during the anodic scan. However,this effect is more pronounced for Pt/C-ATO and Pd/C-ATO. This process is related to the oxidation of the adsorbed species through the bifunctional mechanism,where ATO provides oxygenated species for the oxidation of CO or HCO intermediates adsorbed in Pt or Pd sites. from in situ ATR-fTIR( Attenuated Total Reflectance-fourier Transform Infrared) experiments for all electrocatalysts prepared the formation of HCO or CO intermediates are observed,which indicates the production of carbon dioxide. Polarization curves at 80 ℃in a direct methane fuel cell( DMEfC) show that Pd/C and Pt/C electroacatalysts have superior performance to Pd/C-ATO and Pt/C-ATO in methane oxidation.

There seems to be a one to one correspondence between the phases of atomic and molecular matter（AMOM） and vortex matter（VM） in superfluids and superconductors. Crystals, liquids, and glasses have been experimentally observed in both AMOM and VM. Here, we propose a vortex quasi-crystal state which can be stabilized due to boundary and surface energy effects for samples of special shapes and sizes. for finite sized pentagonal samples, it is proposed that a phase transition between a vortex crystal and a vortex quasi-crystal occurs as a function of magnetic field and temperature as the sample size is reduced.
