Spectral-broadening of the APOLLON PW-class laser pulses using a thin-film compression technique within the longfocal-area interaction chamber of the APOLLON laser facility is reported,demonstrating the delivery of the full energy pulse to the target interaction *** laser pulse at 7 J passing through large aperture,thin glass wafers is spectrally broadened to a bandwidth that is compatible with a 15-fs pulse,indicating also the possibility to achieve sub-10-fs pulses using 14 *** the post-compressor near the interaction makes for an economical method to produce the shortest pulses by limiting the need for high damage,broadband optics close to the final target rather than throughout the entire laser transport system.

We present the results of the first commissioning phase of the short-focal-length area of the Apollon laser facility(located in Saclay,france),which was performed with the first available laser beam(f2),scaled to a nominal power of 1 *** the conditions that were tested,this beam delivered on-target pulses of 10 J average energy and 24 fs *** diagnostics were fielded to assess the performance of the *** on-target focal spot and its spatial stability,the temporal intensity profile prior to the main pulse,and the resulting density gradient formed at the irradiated side of solid targets have been thoroughly characterized,with the goal of helping users design future *** of energetic electrons,ions,and electromagnetic radiation were recorded,showing good laser-to-target coupling efficiency and an overall performance comparable to that of similar international *** will be followed in 2022 by a further commissioning stage at the multipetawatt level.

fish introduction is one of the main causes of amphibian decline worldwide. It affects particularly rare aquatic phenotypes such as paedomorphs, which retain gills during the adult stage. In this context, we determined whether small wetlands, such as pools surrounding fished and fishless lakes, could sustain paedomorphic and metamorphic newts. To this end, we surveyed lakes known historically to sustain Alpine newts Ichthyosaura alpestris as well as 35 nearby pools. On the basis of the published records, the only known population exhibiting paedomorphosis in the Swiss AIps was found to be extirpated by salmonid introductions. However, the metamorphs persisted in per- ipheral pools, paedomorphosis was discovered at a new locality, and overwintering larvae were still present in one of the lakes. These results show the importance of conserving varied aquatic habitats such as pools in mountainous environments where the main resources can become un- suitable for amphibians because of fish introductions. Pools may also function as reservoirs in maintaining newt populations until programs to remove fish from lakes can be carried out. It is not known if paedomorphs could reappear after fish removal. However, the combined resilience of am- phibians after fish removal and the genetic basis for paedomorphosis highlighted in other taxa by previous studies suggest that there is the potential to maintain this intraspecific case of diversity even after its disappearance.

Event-based surveillance systems are at the crossroads of human and animal(and plant and ecosystem)health,epidemiology,statistics,and ***,their deployment faces many challenges specific to each domain and their intersections,such as relations among automation,artificial intelligence,and *** this context,ourwork pertins to the extraction of epidemiological events in textual data(***)by unsupervised *** define the event extraction task as detecting pairs of epidemiological entities(e.g.a disease name and location).The quality of the ranked lists of pairs was evaluated using specific ranking evaluation *** used a publicly available annotated corpus of 438 documents(*** articles)related to animal disease *** statistical approach was able to detect event-related pairs of epidemiological features with a good trade-off between precision and *** results showed that using a window of words outperformed document-based and sentence-based approaches,while reducing the probability of detecting false *** results indicated that Mutual Information was less adapted than the Dice coefficient for ranking pairs of features in the event extraction *** believe that Mutual Information would be more relevant for rare pair detection(*** signals),but requires higher manual curation to avoid false positive extraction ***,generalising the country-level spatial features enabled better discrimination(***)of relevant disease-location pairs for event extraction.

Angiosperms sexual reproduction involves interactions between the two female gametes in the embryo sac and the two male gametes released by the pollen tube. The two synergids of the embryo sac express the fERONIA/SIRENE receptor-like kinase, which controls the discharge of the two sperm cells from the pollen tube. fER/SRN may respond to a ligand from the pollen tube. Alternatively, the interaction between fER/SRN and a ligand from the embryo sac may lead to a state of competence of the synergids allowing pollen tube discharge. Here, we report the new mutant scylla （syl） impaired in the control of pollen tube discharge. This mutant also produces autonomous endosperm development in ab- sence of fertilization--a trait associated with the fERTILIZATION INDEPENDENT SEED （fIS） mutant class. This led us to iden- tify autonomous endosperm in srn mutants and to demonstrate synergistic interactions between srn and the fis mutants. In addition, the fis mutants display defects in pollen tube discharge as in srn and syl mutants, confirming the interaction between the two pathways. Our findings suggest that pollen tube discharge is controlled by an interaction between the synergids expressing SRN/fER and the central cell expressing fIS genes.
