Prevention and therapy of squamous cell carcinoma of the rodent esophagus using freeze-dried black raspberries

Aim:This study was conducted to determine if short-term treatment of N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NmBA)-induced tumors in the rat esophagus withdietary freeze-dried black raspberries (fBR) would result in tumor regression andenhanced survival of the ***:four-week-old male fisher-344 ratswere administered an AIN-76A control diet and injected subcutaneously with 0.5mg/kg NmBA once per week for 15 *** 19 weeks,when rats had an averageof 5-6 tumors (papillomas) per esophagus,they were given a control diet contain-ing either 5%,10%,or 20% *** 7 weeks of berry treatment,all survivingrats were killed and tumor incidence,number and volume were ***:Esophageal tumor incidences,numbers and volumes in NmBA-treated rats werenot influenced by any of the berry *** were progressive increasesin the survival of NmBA-treated rats fed 5%-20% fBR diets;however,theseincreases were not ***:fBR at 5%,10%,and 20% of the diethad no effect on the development of NmBA-induced tumors in the rat esophagusor on animal survival when administered for 7 weeks beginning at the papillomastage of tumor ***,fBR appear to have no therapeutic value inthe treatment of esophageal *** contrast,dietary fBR are highly effectivein preventing the development of NmBA-induced esophageal tumors in rats whenadministered before and during NmBA treatment or shortly after NmBA treat-ment when the esophagi contain preneoplastic (dysplastic) lesions of varyingdegrees of severity.

Recovery of Brachiopod and Ammonoid faunas following the End-Permian Crisis:Additional Evidence from the Lower Triassic of the Russian far East and Kazakhstan

After the End-Permian mass extinction, ammonoids reached levels of taxonomic diver- sity higher than in the Changhsingian by the dienerian Substage of the Induan. However, brachiopods exhibit a prolonged delay in recovery, and their taxonomic diversity had not recovered to Late Permian levels even by the Olenekian. The differential patterns of recovery between these two clades may reflect fundamental differences in physiology and behavior. Brachiopods were benthic organisms that were dependent on specific trophic sources, and their general reduction in size during the Early Triassic may have been a response to a relative paucity of food resources. In contrast, ammonoids were sluggish- nektic organisms that utilized a wider range of trophic sources and that suffered no comparable size decrease during the Early Triassic. Brachiopods may have been at a disadvantage also due to vulner- abilities associated with their larval stage, during which they had to locate a suitable substrate for set- tlement. In contrast, ammonoids had no larval stage and juveniles may have been dispersed widely into favorable habitats. These factors may account for differences in the relative success of ammonoids and brachiopods at high-latitude regions following the End-Permian mass extinction： ammonoids success- fully reeolonized the Boreal region during the Early Triassic whereas brachiopods did not.

Study on Cytokines IL-2,IL-6,IL-10 in Patients of Chronic Allergic Rhinitis Treated with Acupuncture

OBJECTIVES: To observe the plasmatic concentration of IL-6, IL-10 and IL-2 in the patient of chronic allergic rhinitis before and after acupuncture therapy. mETHOdS: Cytokine levels were determined before and after treatment in 30 healthy volunteers (Group A) and 90 patients of chronic allergic rhinitis (Group B) with an increased plasma IL-10 level. Group B was then divided into 3 subgroups: 30 patients treated with real acupuncture (Group B1); 30 patients treated with sham acupuncture (Group B2); 30 non-treated patients (Group B3). A Photometric Study of the W Uma-type Eclipsing Binary System GSC 0445-1993

Several new light minimum times for the eclipsing binary GSC 0445-1993 have been determined from the observations by Koppelman et al. and the orbital period of this system was revised. A photometric analysis was carried out using the 2003 version of the Wilson-devinney code. The results reveal that GSC 0445-1993 is a W-type eclipsing binary with a mass ratio of q = 0.323(±0.002) and an over-contact degree of f = 22.8%(±4.2%). A small temperature difference between the components of △T = 135 K and an orbital inclination of i = 65.7°(±0.3°) were obtained. The asymmetry of its light curve (i.e., the O'Connell effect) for this binary star is explained by the presence of a dark spot on the more massive component.

We analyse the interaction of a relativistic electron with a uniform magnetic field in the spiral dislocation *** show that analytical solutions to the dirac equation can be obtained,where the spectrum of energy corresponds to the relativistic Landau *** also analyse the influence of the spiral dislocation on the relativistic Landau levels by showing that there exists an analogue of the Aharonov–Bohm effect for bound states.

Numerical investigation of a double-junction a:Si Ge thin-film solar cell including the multi-trench region

We present a new approach based on the multi-trench technique to improve the electrical performances, which are the fill factor and the electrical efficiency. The key idea behind this approach is to introduce a new multi-trench region in the intrinsic layer, in order to modulate the total resistance of the solar cell. Based on 2- d numerical investigation and optimization of amorphous SiGe double-junction （a-Si：H/a-SiGe：H） thin film solar cells, in the present paper numerical models of electrical and optical parameters are developed to explain the impact of the multi-trench technique on the improvement of the double-junction solar cell electrical behavior for high performance photovoltaic applications. In this context, electrical characteristics of the proposed design are analyzed and compared with conventional amorphous silicon double-junction thin-film solar cells.

Viscosity stability indexes of mold flux at high temperature and low temperature havebeen introduced and the effects of flux compositions on viscosity stability indexeshave been studied. Two mold fluxes have been developed by analyzing the effects offlux viscosity stability on the process and the condition of continuous casting slab ofmedium carbon steel. The results show that the fluxes are suitable for the process.

Heat transfer enhancement in mOSfET mounted on different fR4 substrates by thermal transient measurement

miniaturization of electronic package leads to high heat density and heat accumulation in electronics device, resulting in short life time and premature failure of the device. Junction temperature and thermal resistance are the critical parameters that determine the thermal management and reliability in electronics cooling. metal oxide field effect transistor（mOSfET）is an important semiconductor device for light emitting diode-integrated circuit（LEd IC） driver application, and thermal management in mOSfET is a major challenge. In this study, investigations on thermal performance of mOSfET are performed for evaluating the junction temperature and thermal resistance. Suitable modifications in fR4 substrates are proposed by introducing thermal vias and copper layer coating to improve the thermal performance of mOSfET. Experiments are conducted using thermal transient tester（T3ster） at 2.0 A input current and ambient temperature varying from25℃ to 75℃. The thermal parameters are measured for three proposed designs： fR4 with circular thermal vias, fR4 with single strip of copper layer and embedded vias, and fR4 with I-shaped copper layer, and compared with that of plain fR4 substrate. from the experimental results, fR4I-shaped shows promising results by 33.71% reduction in junction temperature and 54.19% reduction in thermal resistance. for elevated temperature, the relative increases in junction temperature and thermal resistance are lower for fR4I-shaped than those for other substrates considered. The introduction of thermal vias and copper layer plays a significant role in thermal performance.

The effect of an inhomogeneous magnetic field,which varies inversely with distance on the ground state energy level of graphene,is *** analytically show that graphene under the influence of a magnetic field arising from a straight long current-carrying wire(proportional to the magnetic field from carbon nanotubes and nanowires)exhibits zero-energy solutions and find that contrary to the case of a uniform magnetic field for which the zero-energy modes show the localization of electrons entirely on just one sublattice corresponding to a single valley Hamiltonian,zero-energy solutions in this case reveal that the probabilities for the electrons to be on both sublattices,say A and B,are the same.
