Artificial ground freezing of underground mines in cold regions using thermosyphons with air insulation

Current practice of underground artificial ground freezing(AGf)typically involves huge refrigeration systems of large economic and environmental *** this study,a novel AGf technique is proposed deploying available cold wind in cold *** is achieved by a static heat transfer device called thermosyphon equipped with an air insulation layer.A refrigeration unit can be optionally integrated to meet additional cooling *** introduction of air insulation isolates the thermosyphon from ground zones where freezing is not needed,resulting in:(1)steering the cooling resources(cold wind or refrigeration)towards zones of interest;and(2)minimizing refrigeration *** design is demonstrated using well-validated mathematical models from our previous work based on two-phase enthalpy method of the ground coupled with a thermal resistance network for the *** Canadian mines are considered:the Cigar Lake Mine and the Giant *** results show that our proposed design can speed the freezing time by 30%at the Giant Mine and by two months at the Cigar Lake ***,a cooling load of 2.4 GWh can be saved at the Cigar Lake ***,this study provides mining practitioners with sustainable solutions of underground AGf.

this paper highlights the crucial role of Indonesia’s GNSS receiver network in advancing Equatorial plasma bubble(Epb)studies in Southeast and East Asia,as ionospheric irregularities within Epb can disrupt GNSS signals and degrade positioning *** by the Indonesian Geospatial Information Agency(bIG),the Indonesia Continuously Operating Reference Station(Ina-CORS)network comprises over 300 GNSS receivers spanning equatorial to southern low-latitude ***-CORS is uniquely situated to monitor Epb generation,zonal drift,and dissipation across Southeast *** provide a practical tool for Epb research,by sharing two-dimensional rate of total Electron Content(tEC)change index(ROtI)derived from this *** generate ROtI maps with a 10-minute resolution,and samples from May 2024 are publicly available for further scientific *** preliminary findings from the ROtI maps of Ina-CORS are ***,the Ina-CORS ROtI maps reveal that the irregularities within a broader Epb structure persist longer,increasing the potential for these irregularities to migrate farther ***,we demonstrate that combined ROtI maps from Ina-CORS and GNSS receivers in East Asia and Australia can be used to monitor the development of ionospheric irregularities in Southeast and East *** have demonstrated the combined ROtI maps to capture the development of ionospheric irregularities in the Southeast/East Asian sector during the G5 Geomagnetic Storm on May 11,*** observed simultaneous ionospheric irregularities in japan and Australia,respectively propagating northwestward and southwestward,before midnight,whereas Southeast Asia’s equatorial and low-latitude regions exhibited irregularities *** sharing ROtI maps from Indonesia and integrating them with regional GNSS networks,researchers can conduct comprehensive Epb studies,enhancing the understanding of Epb behavior across Southeast and East Asia and contributing significantly to ionosphe

this paper reports a new simple four-dimensional（4 D） hyperjerk chaotic system. the proposed system has only one stable equilibrium point. Hence, its strange attractor belongs to the category of hidden attractors. the proposed system exhibits various dynamical behaviors including chaotic, periodic, stable nature, and coexistence of various attractors. Numerous theoretical and numerical methods are used for the analyses of this system. the chaotic behavior of the new system is validated using circuit implementation. further, the synchronization of the proposed systems is shown by designing an adaptive integrator backstepping controller. Numerical simulation validates the synchronization strategy.

Indentation is a comparatively simple and virtually nondestructive method of determining mechanical properties of material surfaces by means of an indenter inducing a localized deformation. the paper present experimental results of the load-displacement curves, the hardness and the elastic modulus data, and associated analysis for poly（methyl methacrylate）（pMMA） surfaces as a function of contact displacement. the experimental results include continuous stiffness indentations performed using constant loading rate and constant displacement rate experiments. the continuous stiffness indentation involves continuous calculation of a material stiffness, and hence hardness and elastic modulus of surfaces, during discrete loading-unloading cycles, as in a conventional indentation routine, and in a comparatively smaller time constant, the dependence of the compliance curves, the hardness, the elastic modulus and the plasticity index upon the imposed penetration depth, the applied normal load and the deformation rate are described. tip area and load frame calibrations for the continuous stiffness indentation are also reported. the paper includes practical considerations encountered during indentation of polymers specifically at low penetration depths. the experimental results show a peculiarly harder response of pMMA surfaces at the submicron （near to surface） layers.

A new thermodynamically stable Nb_(2)Ni intermetallic compound phase revealed by peritectoid transition within binary Nb-Ni alloy system

A new intermetallic compound of thermodynamically stable Nb_(2)Ni phase is discovered within Nb-Ni binary system,refreshing the current situation that there are only three stable intermediate phases of Nb_(7)Ni_(6),NbNi_(3) and NbNi_(8).the new stable phase is generated from the peritectoid transition:(Nb)+Nb_(7)Ni_(6)→Nb_(2)Ni,and the transformation temperature is 1533 *** refreshes the current equilibrium Nb-Ni binary phase *** is confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and the annealing experiments,which is determined to be the fCC structure(pearson:cf96,space grope:fd-3m O2,a=11.888A).furthermore,the equilibrium properties of Nb_(2)Ni phase are produced by density functional theory,including the formation energy,cohesive energy,bulk modulus and lattice constant.

the combination of a 4-node quadrilateral mixed interpolation of tensorial components element(MItC4)and the cell-based smoothed finite element method(CSfEM)was formulated and implemented in this work for the analysis of free vibration and unidirectional buckling of shell *** formulation was applied to numerous numerical examples of non-woven *** CSfEM schemes do not require coordinate transformation,spurious modes and numerical instabilities are prevented using bilinear quadrilateral element subdivided into two,three and four smoothing *** improvement of the original CSfEM formulation was made regarding the calculation of outward unit normal vectors,which allowed to remove the integral operator in the strain smoothing *** procedure conducted both to the simplification of the developed formulation and the reduction of computational cost.A wide range of values for the thickness-to-length ratio and edge boundary conditions were *** developed numerical model proved to overcome the shear locking phenomenon with success,revealing both reduced implementation effort and computational cost in comparison to the conventional fEM *** cell-based strain smoothing technique used in this work yields accurate results and generally attains higher convergence rate in energy at low computational cost.

the Atkinson equation along with its friction factor is commonly used to estimate pressure requirement in mine ***,friction factor correlation of flow through broken rock,typically found in blasted stope,gob,rock pit or block caving rock deposits,etc.,is currently ***,it is impractical to conduct direct measurements of flow resistance in an inaccessible broken rock *** paper aims to develop a new friction factor correlation of flow through broken rock that can be used directly in Atkinson *** proposed correlation is valid for broken rocks with diameter between 0.04 and 1.2 m and porosity ranging from 0.23 to 0.7.

Zeolite A Synthesized from Geothermal Waste Using Conventional and Microwave Heating for the Hydrothermal treatment

Zeolite A has been successfully synthesized from geothermal waste with natrium aluminate and natrium silicate using conventional(C-H)and microwave heating(M-H)for the hydrothermal *** products obtained for different aging times have been characterized using X-Ray Diffraction(XRD),fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy(ftIR),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).It is shown that with the M-H process,zeolite can be formed at relatively low temperature(100°C)in a relatively short time(40 min).the crystallization of zeolite A has been found to be generally promoted by an increase of aging and synthesis time;however,it has also been observed that relative long aging times can transform it into *** A produced through the M-H process generally displays a smaller and more homogeneous crystal size with respect to that obtained with the C-H method.
