Overview of the phytomedicine approaches against Helicobacter pylori

Helicobacter pylori(***)successfully colonizes thehuman stomach of the majority of the human *** infection always causes chronic gastritis,butmay evolve to serious outcomes,such as peptic ulcer,gastric carcinoma or mucosa-associated lymphoid tis-sue *** first line therapy recommend-ed by the Maastricht-4 Consensus Report comprises theuse of two antibiotics and a proton-pomp inhibitor,butin some regions failure associated with this treatmentis already undesirable ***,treatment failure isone of the major problems associated with *** in-fection and is mainly associated with bacterial *** order to counteract this situation,someeffort has been allocated during the last years in theinvestigation of therapeutic alternatives beyond *** include vaccines,probiotics,photodynamic inactivation and phage therapy,which are briefly revis-ited in this review.A particular focus on phytomedicine,also described as herbal therapy and botanical therapy,which consists in the use of plant extracts for medicinal purposes,is specifically addressed,namely considering its history,category of performed studies,tested com-pounds,active principle and mode of *** herbs already experienced are highly diverse and usually selected from products with a long history of employ-ment against diseases associated with *** infec-tion from each country own folk *** studies demonstrated that many phytomedicine products have an *** activity and gastroprotective ***-though the mechanism of action is far from being com-pletely understood,current knowledge correlates the beneficial action of herbs with inhibition of essential *** enzymes,modulation of the host immune system and with attenuation of inflammation.

Small farm Households’ Vulnerabilities in South Cotabato, Philippines

Low-productivity subsistence agriculture still prevails in many areas in the Philippines such as in the Municipality of Lake Sebu in the Province of South Cotabato in Mindanao. This study employs primary data collection methods, namely key informant interview (KII), focus group discussion (fGD) and a household survey to assess the conditions and problems constraining farming households in Lake Sebu. The study finds that constraints on sourcing and financing of farm inputs and on marketing of produce have perpetuated the dominating role of middlemen in agricultural financing and marketing that result in high input prices and low farm-gate output prices, and hence minimal net income for the farmers. The paper concludes with specific policy and program recommendations to achieve maximum and sustainable farming benefits, namely, an expansive farm-to-market infrastructure program, an institution and business support intervention program to link farmers and markets, conditional cash farming subsidies in lieu of direct provision of farm inputs, and crop diversification promotion and support programs.

A novel approach to restrain the formation of the burr during nanosecond laser ablation is reported in this paper. An assistant laser pulse, separated from the primary processing laser pulse with the pulse duration of 21 ns by temporal pulse shaping method, is used to control the formation of the melt deposit. The effect of the assistant pulse on the morphologies of the melt pools is investigated with the aid of microscope. The results of machining grooves on steel samples with the shaped pulses show a reduction of the burr at the boundary of the ablation zone. The contribution indicates a potential method for obtaining an efficient ablation as well as good processing quality in short pulse laser microfabrication.

The main concern of this presentation is to offer an overview of recent advances concerning the nano-structural characterization of polymers and blends by means of microindentation hardness. Indentation with a sharp indenter, involving deformation on a very small scale, is one of the simplest ways to measure the mechanical properties of a material. The basic aspects of the microindentation mechanisms will be first introduced and the correlation between microhardness and yield stress will be highlighted. The hardness of polymer glasses is discussed and the relationship between hardness and glass transition temperature is brought in. It will be shown that structure formation during isothermal crystallization can be followed using the microindentation technique and some examples will be provided. The lower Mississippi River(LMR) has been heavily modified for multiple human purposes such as navigation, flood control, and bank stabilization. However, the LMR simultaneously supports a diverse fish fauna that includes recreational and commercial fisheries. Due to river training and diversion structures constructed during the past 80 years, the historic characteristics of the LMR have been drastically altered and have likely influenced fishes and fisheries in the system. One common restoration measure used throughout the LMR has been to "notch" wing-dike structures that close secondary(side) river channels. Dike notching allows year-round flows through secondary channels, which enhances habitat diversity and promotes biological productivity at the ecosystem scale. Although notching is presumed good for LMR fishes and other biota, few studies have examined its effects on fish assemblages. In this study, fish assemblages were sampled at seven LMR secondary channels spanning from river kilometer(rkm) 628(Louisiana-Mississippi, U.S.A.) upstream to rkm 1504(Missouri-Kentucky, U.S.A.). four secondary channels were termed "permanent"(i.e.,with notched dikes) while three secondary channels were termed "temporary"(i.e., without notched dikes).fishes were sampled by boat-mounted electrofishing conducted during falling and low stages from1995—1997. fish assemblages differed between permanent and temporary secondary channels, and varied somewhat between falling and low stages. Gizzard shad(Dorosoma cepedianum), threadfin shad(D. petenense), and white bass(Morone chrysops) demonstrated consistent preferences for low-current conditions associated with temporary secondary channels. Conversely, blue catfish(Ictalurus furcatus), flathead catfish(Pylodictis olivaris), and freshwater drum(Aplodinotus grunniens) were more associated with permanent secondary channels. future restoration strategies in the LMR should consider dike notching and resultant maintenance of permanent seconda
