BACKGROUND The hepatosplenic schistosomiasis(HSS)with portal hypertension can cause vascular complications such as hepatopulmonary syndrome(HPS).HPS increases the risk of mortality in patients with cirrhosis;however,there is no data on the mortality of patients with HSS and *** To perform a survival analysis of patients with HPS related to cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic(schistosomiasis)portal *** from August 2023 to January 2024,medical records and the official mortality information service of 121 patients who participated in a cross-sectional study on HPS between 2010 and 2012 were *** curves were created using the Kaplan-Meier method,and comparisons were performed using the log-rank *** regression models estimated the hazard ratios(HR).RESULTS Overall,data of 113 patients were analyzed;most(55.8%)had HSS and concomitant cirrhosis(HSS/cirrhosis).Meanwhile,HPS was present in 39(34.5%)*** occurred in 65 patients[57.5%];95%confidence interval(CI):48%-67%.The average time to death was lower in those with HPS when compared to those without HPS(3.37 years vs 5.65 years;P=0.017).According to the cause of liver disease,patients with HSS/cirrhosis died earlier,and their risk of death was twice as high compared with patients with HSS without cirrhosis(HR:2.17;95%CI:1.3-3.60;P=0.003).Meanwhile,there were no differences when comparing the two groups with and without HPS(HR:1.01;95%CI:0.59-1.73;P=0.967).CONCLUSION Patients with HSS and concomitant cirrhosis had a lower survival rate,but there was no difference in survival regardless of the presence of HPS.

BACKGROUND Bone marrow transplantation(BMT)is a breakthrough procedure for patients with hematological and oncological conditions,particularly when all other treat-ments *** indications vary between patients and settings,and its outcomes depend on the donor type,transplantation facility,and center *** coun-tries where transplantation facilities are lacking,sending patients abroad for transplantation might be a safe and effective alternative to leaving the patient to face eventual disease morbidity or even mortality if the procedure is not per-formed ***,studies evaluating BMT abroad are *** To assess the clinical characteristics of patients who underwent BMT overseas and analyze the factors affecting their survival *** We conducted a retrospective cohort study of all Bahraini pediatric patients who underwent BMT between 2013 and *** records from Salmaniya Medical Complex and Overseas Treatment Office were *** demographics,RESULTS Of the 75 listed patients,62(82.7%)underwent BMT and were included,10(13.3%)did not,and 3(4.0%)were awaiting *** patients were male(n=33,53.2%).The mean age at transplantation was 7.8±4.9 *** main indication for treatment was acute myeloid leukemia(AML)(n=15,36.6%).Six patients(9.7%)required *** the 68 transplants,60(88.2%)involved conditioning,mostly a combination of fludarabine and total body irradiation(n=7,11.7%).Most patients underwent allogeneic transplantation(n=48,77.4%),primarily from related donors(n=47/48,97.9%).The most common complication was infection(n=51,79.7%).follow-up averaged 3.3±2.5 *** overall survival rate was 77.4%.Survival odds were better for non-AML patients and Middle Eastern centers(P=0.015 and P=0.032,respectively).CONCLUSION Bahraini males with AML primarily underwent allogeneic ***-AML patients and those transplanted in the Middle East had better survival rates,despite high complication rates

Two-plasmon-decay instability(TPD)poses a critical target preheating risk in direct-drive inertial confinement *** this paper,TPD collectively driven by dual laser beams consisting of a normal-incidence laser beam(Beam-N)and a large-angle-incidence laser beam(Beam-L)is investigated via particle-in-cell *** is found that significant TPD growth can develop in this regime at previously unexpected low laser intensities if the intensity of Beam-L exceeds the large-angle-incidence *** beams contribute to the growth of TPD in a“seed-amplification”manner in which the absolute instability driven by Beam-L provides the seeds that are convectively amplified by Beam-N,making TPD energetically important and causing significant pump depletion and hot-electron generation.

Understanding the Perceptions and Practices of Homeowners in the Event of Hurricane: A Case Study of University Employees in Louisiana

The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore and gain an understanding of Louisiana homeowners’ perceptions and practices in preparing for hurricanes;contribute to academic research and student learning, while guiding the development of future projects. We focused specifically on how homeowners in Louisiana would protect their important documents and possessions. These documents and possessions include but are not limited to photographs, social security cards, birth certificates, and insurance paperwork. We collected the data throughout the fall semester of 2022 at Louisiana State University (LSU) by conducting a focus group and in-depth interviews. We collected a variety of answers, but most participants expressed a strong need to have their important documents and possessions protected and gave different strategies for how this was carried out, such as digitizing or protective storage. Participants also expressed a strong need for more information to be delivered to residents to talk more about ways they can protect their own documents and possessions. Emphases were also made on the need for: leaders of large institutions to be especially concerned with preparedness for vulnerable populations;outreach programs to be put in place to spread awareness of the importance of protecting important documents and possessions during a disaster;news outlets to switch their focus from normal survival tips to discussions on the importance of protecting documents and possessions;government and non-profit agencies to work together to share tips and information through social media and other forms of handouts.

我们用两个带电粒子符合方法研究了能量为56MeV的^(16)O轰击^(12)C的三体反应出射道,分别得到了两个不同的三体出射道:α_1+α_2+^(20)Ne和p+α+^(23)Na的反应Q值谱,两道之间的比为8:1,同时得到了α_1+α_2两维符合事件的投影谱,结果显示α+^(24)Mg是α_1+α_2+^(20)Ne出射道的主要中间过程。理论分析告诉我们,两体的两步连续衰变与剥裂机制的统计计算相加,满意地和实验能谱符合,但是,从运动学计算来说,~8Be_(1st)+^(20)Ne~*,然后~8Be_(1st)→α_1+α_2的连续衰变机制也是不能完全排除的。

We sketch friedrich Ackermann’s research program following the concept of Imre Lakatos,with some historical key developments in the theory and application of aerotriangulation and image *** research program,with its core being statistical estimation theory,has decisively influenced photogrammetry since the 60s,is still fully alive,and a challenge for today’s methods of image *** describe(1)Lakatos’concept of a scientific research program,with its negative and positive heuristics and(2)Ackermann’s research program,clearly made explicit in his PhD,with its mathematical model,the ability to predict theoretical precision and reliability,the potential of analyzing rigorous and approximate method,and the role of *** development of aerotriangulation,later augmented by image matching techniques,is closely connected to Ackermann’s successful attempts to integrate basic research and practical applications.
