Global food security is a major development challenge dictated by state stability, resilience to geopolitical and economic shocks and is linked to health security. fragile and failed nation-states are at risk of extreme poverty and lead to war and conflict. fragile states experience, corrupt financial regimes and are influenced by skewed global market systems and reduced equitable market access that decrease food and health security. This qualitative review describes the critical cross sections of food security, the influence of global market systems and state stability and institutions that form the nexus of global health security. We outline how the manipulation of free market systems and decreased state capacity not only decrease food and health security but also contribute to state fragility and failure. Improved public health policy mechanisms, decreased dependence on foreign financial structures and extractive mechanisms are crucial to improving food and health security at present, and to further increase state stability in the future.

Extensive bleaching of Montastrea annularis spp. group and several other scleractinian taxa occurred on the reefs within the Arrecifes de Cozumel National park of Cozumel, Mexico, after the passage of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Rina. We conducted six drift dives at five different dive sites （-13 h of scuba diving） and photographed a variety of reefs scenes at depths of 10-28 m. Bleaching was noted at depths of 10-40 m in a variety of scleractinian species, including M. annularis species group, especially M. faveolata and Siderastrea siderea. Considering that local dive guides had not observed bleaching prior to the storm and the sea surface temperature did not exceed the local bleaching threshold, it is probable that the extensive rainfall associated with Hurricane/Tropical Storm Rina lowered salinity sufficiently via subsurface freshwater springs to cause bleaching in susceptible species. This suggests the need to monitor not only subsurface sea temperature but also subsurface salinity in localities where freshwater springs occur adjacent to or within coral reefs.

Seed production and percent germination in jointed goatgrass were negatively affected by a shorter vernalization period in field studies conducted at Oregon State University. Our objective was to determine if a shorter growing season experienced by a maternal jointed goatgrass plant similarly affected seedling vigor in the progeny. Seed mass, percent germination, emergence, seedling height and biomass, including roots, were recorded or evaluated on progeny that were produced from three jointed goatgrass populations grown under a long or short growing season in a common garden experiment in eastern Oregon, an area where jointed goatgrass is known to commonly infest natural resources, including winter wheat. Seeds produced under a shorter growing season weighed less, were slower to germinate, and displayed lower percent germination compared with seeds produced under a long growing season. Seedlings from a short growing season were slower to emerge, and produced less shoot biomass compared to seedlings produced under a long growing season. Seedling roots and shoots were shorter when seeds were produced under a short growing season. A shorter growing season negatively affected jointed goatgrass seedling vigor. If resources for jointed goatgrass management are limited, strategies should focus on controlling plants that emerge in the fall, because they have the potential to produce more vigorous seedlings compared to plants that emerge in late winter or early spring.

Objective To explore the etiology, incidence and methods to prevent and treat severe retinopathy of prematurity （ROp）,which is rapidly becoming a threat to the vision of babies in areas of the world where increasing numbers of premature babies are *** sources The data used in this review were mainly from Medline and pubMed published in English. The search term was ＂retinopathy of prematurity and premature birth＂.Study selection We discuss the historical perspectives, prevalence and incidence, classification and treatment methods of ROp in premature *** peripheral retinal ablation for eyes with severe ROp can help prevent progression to blindness and several large clinical trials have shown the effectiveness of this treatment in high risk eyes. As a greater proportion of VLBW and ELBW babies survive, the population of babies at risk increases. In various regions of the world, different identification criteria are used to determine which babies are at risk of blindness in order to provide timely diagnostic examinations and treatment as needed. Methods for preventiing ROp include better ante-natal and obstetric care leading to a reduction in the rate of prematurity, the use of ante-natal corticosteroids, and better neonatal care practices. Recent developments have indicated that management of oxygen supplementation is important for the prevention of severe ROp; however,there is not yet known what oxygen saturation target should be adopted. Sepsis increases severe ROp in very preterm infants. Genetic associations and a telemedicine approach may be explored to detect ROp. Treatment of anti-VEGf therapy are potentially useful in eyes with severe ROp, but long term effects are not yet known and such treatment should be used with great *** ROp is a potentially binding disease for premature babies which is becoming more prevalent with the development improving neonatal services in many countries in recent years. The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

This patient case report describes a 40-year-old African woman presenting with a classic acute presentation of carbon monoxide poisoning from an unlikely source responding to conventional treatment. This case highlights the classic presenting features of carbon monoxide poisoning and the requirement to maintain a high index of suspicion and immediate use of rapid empirical treatment in the undifferentiated patient, sometimes before diagnostics and definitive diagnosis can be determined. The definitive diagnosis and cause of poisoning are also discussed to educate the emergency physician to new and foreign cultural habits and encourage best medical practices within multicultural societies.

Gastrointestinal histoplasmosis complicating pediatric Crohn disease:A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND Infection with Histoplasma capsulatum(***)can lead to disseminated disease involving the gastrointestinal tract presenting as diffuse abdominal pain and diarrhea which may mimic inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).CASE SUMMARY We report a case of 12-year-old boy with presumptive diagnosis of Crohn disease(CD)that presented with several months of abdominal pain,weight loss and bloody *** showed patchy moderate inflammation characterized by erythema and numerous pseudopolyps involving the terminal ileum,cecum,and ascending *** sections from the colon biopsy revealed diffuse cellular infiltrate within the lamina propria with scattered histiocytic aggregates,and occasional non-necrotizing ***-Gomori’s Methenamine Silver staining confirmed the presence of numerous yeast forms suggestive of Histoplasma spp.,further confirmed with positive urine Histoplasma antigen(6.58 ng/mL,range 0.2-20 ng/mL)and serum immunoglobulin G antibodies to Histoplasma(35.9 EU,range 10.0-80.0 EU).Intravenous amphotericin was administered then transitioned to oral ***-up computed tomography imaging showed a left lower lung nodule and mesenteric lymphadenopathy consistent with disseminated histoplasmosis *** Gastrointestinal involvement with *** with no accompanying respiratory symptoms is exceedingly rare and recognition is often delayed due to the overlapping clinical manifestations of *** case illustrates the importance of excluding infectious etiologies in patients with“biopsy-proven”CD prior to initiating immunosuppressive *** between clinicians and pathologists is crucial as blood cultures and antigen testing are key studies that should be performed in all suspected cases of histoplasmosis to avoid misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment.
