The roots of onion (Allium cepa) stand out for having cells with large size and small number of *** characteristics make them useful in bioassays for the measurement of a variety of cytogenetic and morphological parameters , in which they can be used as toxicity indicators of the induction and formation of micronuclei and chromosomal *** on this background , the potential genotoxic effect of phenol concentration on cells of *** was investigated either in terms of induced aberrations or micronuclei *** results demonstrated that the higher the concentration of phenol , the higher the incidence of abnormalities , thus confirming the genotoxicity of this pollutant.

Oxidized (GO) and expanded (G-Exp) graphite were employed to prepare composites with ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) matrix using masterbatches of polyethylene with different compositions. The materials and a blend of UHMWPE/HDPE were prepared by extrusion and their properties were evaluated. The effect of carbon fillers on the crystalline structure, thermo dynamic-mechanical (DMTA) and thermal properties (melting and crystallization temperatures) of the composites were discussed. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSc) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) measurements showed that the addition of masterbatch with GO and G-Exp significantly increased the crystallite size of composites, increasing the temperatures of melting, degradation, glass transition and the degree of crystallinity of polyethylene. DMTA analysis indicated the storage and loss moduli of composites in relation to neat UHMWPE, the blend and UHMWPE/composites. SEM micrographs showed a flatter, continuous and uniform surface meaning a compact lamellar structure. The present work resulted in interesting findings on the effects of GO on the crystalline structures, mechanical and thermal properties of UHMWPE, which can lead to generalizations useful for future work.

Brazil is the largest coffee exporter in the world. In addition, it occupies the second position, among the consuming countries of the drink. To investigate the chemical composition and quality of the coffee drink from coffea arabica species, samples grown in the city of Ourinhos, the third most productive region in the state of Sao Paulo, a study of its properties and characteristics was conducted. The pharmacobotanical characteristics were investigated performed according to usual techniques in these researches through macroscopic and microscopic studies through cross-sections. The oil obtained for analysis was extracted by soxhlet, and the caffeine content was measured for green grains using High Performance Liquid chromatography (HPLc) using as stationary phase, column c18 and gradient mobile phase formed by 80% water and 20% methanol. The concentration obtained was 44.983 ± 0.86 μg/mL. The antioxidant activity was measured in triplicate through the DPPH test of the in natura coffee oil, and presented antioxidant action of Ec50 25.89 ± 1.16 μg/mL.

This paper considers iterative frequency-domain receivers for block transmission techniques with rate-1 Space Time Block coding (STBc) for two and four transmit antennas using both Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplexing (OfDM) and Single-carrier (Sc) schemes. The proposed receiver includes an interference canceller which enhances the performance of the non-orthogonal STBc scheme with 4 transmit antennas, allowing performances close to those of orthogonal codes. Our performance results show that combining STBc with block transmission techniques allows excellent performances.

Granulopoiesis in murine bone-marrow is regulated by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors(including hormones, drugs, inflammatory mediators and cytokines). Eosinophils, a minor subpopulation of circulating leukocytes, which remains better understood in its contributions to tissue injury in allergic disease than in its presumably beneficial actions in host defense, provide a striking example of joint regulation of granulopoiesis within murine bone-marrow by all of these classes of extrinsic factors. We first described the upregulation of eosinopoiesis in bone-marrow of allergen-sensitized mice following airway allergen challenge. Over the last decade, we were able to show a critical role for endogenous glucocorticoid hormones and cytokines in mediating this phenomenon through modification of cytokine effects, thereby supporting a positive association between stress hormones and allergic reactions. We have further shown that cysteinylleukotrienes(cys LT), a major proinflammatory class of lipid mediators, generated through the 5-lipoxygenase pathway, upregulate bone-marrow eosinopoiesis in vivo and in vitro. cys LT mediate the positive effects of drugs(indomethacin and aspirin) and of proallergic cytokines(eotaxin/ccL11 and interleukin-13) on in vitro eosinopoiesis. While these actions of endogenous Gc and cys LT might seem unrelated and even antagonistic, we demonstrated a critical partnership of these mediators in vivo, shedding light on mechanisms linking stress to allergy: Gc are required for cys LT-mediated upregulation of bone-marrow eosinopoiesis in vivo, but also attenuate subsequent ex vivo responses to cys LT. Gc and cys LT therefore work together to induce eosinophilia, but through subtle regulatory mechanisms also limit the magnitude of subsequent bone-marrow responses to allergen.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided central venous catheterization when compared to the conventional procedure. Method: A prospective cohort study was carried out over a 9-month period from february to October 2016 involving 144 inpatients at PIcU of Irmandade da Santa casa de Sao Paulo Hospital, undergoing central venous catheterization. The patients were matched in pairs of identical patients according to the levels of potentially intervening variables (age, nutritional status, puncture site, professional experience), differing only as to the cVc technique: ultrasound-guided (USG-cVc) or conventional (c-cVc). Discarding data from non-paired patients, the remaining did forming 47 pairs, matched as two related samples: USG-cVc and c-cVc groups. Success parameters: number of puncture attempts;time spent at cVc;success rate and complications. Results: In the USG-cVc group, the number of attempts (mean = 2.04) and the time spent at catheterization (mean = 11.89 minutes) were lower (t = 2.34, df = 46, t 0.95 = 2.02, p t = 3.07, df = 46, t 0.95 = 2.02, p ctively, when compared to the results obtained for the control group (c-GVc), (mean = 3.21) and (mean = 28.26 minutes), respectively. As to success, there was observed a significant difference (f (1, 46) = 16.6;Q (1) = 12.5, p considering only one trial (USG -cVc = 27/47;c-cVc = 9/47), but no significant difference (f (1, 46) = 3.76;Q (1) = 3.56, p > 0.05) when considering several attempts. complications were found less frequently in the USG-cVc group (3/47) than in the cVc-c (13/47), (f (1, 46) = 8.24;Q (1) = 7.14, p conclusion: USG-cVc was found to be more effective than the conventional technique, especially regarding success at the first puncture attempt.

目的:观察家兔角巩膜缘局部应用5-氟尿嘧啶(5-fU)的治疗效果。方法:家兔角巩膜缘区域局部应用5-fU,家兔被立即处死或在7,15,30d后分别处死,处死后即进行组织学检查。结果:在手术刚结束时,所有家兔眼5-fU的应用区域附近都表现为角巩膜组织上皮脱失,术后4d此处区域的溃疡愈合。组织学检查表现为上皮缺失伴轻微水肿。1wk后,2个动物仍表现为上皮缺损、上皮增厚且具有较大的基底细胞、染色质疏松及轻微的上皮下水肿。其余各组没有上述类似改变。结论:角巩膜缘局部应用5-fU能够延迟组织的上皮化。

^(11)c-PK11195 is a positron emitter tracer used for Positron Emission Tomography(PET)imaging of innate immune cell activation in studies of neuroinflammatory *** the image quantitative analysis,it is necessary to quantify the intact fraction of this tracer in the arterial plasma during imaging acquisition(plasma intact fraction).Due to the complexity and costs involved in this analysis it is important to evaluate the real necessity of individual analysis in each 11c-PK11195 PET imaging *** purpose of this study is to compare 11cPK11195 plasma metabolization rate between healthy controls and multiple sclerosis(MS)patients and evaluate the interference of sex,age,treatment,and disease phenotype in the tracer intact fraction measured in arterial plasma samples.11c-PK11195 metabolization rate in arterial plasma was quantified by high performance liquid chromatography in samples from MS patients(n=50)and healthy controls(n=23)at 20,45,and 60 minutes after 11c-PK11195 *** were also stratified by sex,age,treatment type,and MS *** results showed no significant differences in the metabolization rate of healthy controls and MS patients,or in the stratified *** conclusion,11c-PK11195 metabolization has the same rate in patients with MS and healthy controls,which is not affected by sex,age,treatment,and disease ***,these findings could contribute to exempting the necessity for tracer metabolization determination in all 11c-PK11195 PET imaging acquisition,by using a population metabolization rate *** study procedures were approved by the Ethics committee for Research Projects Analysis of the Hospital das clinicas of the University of Sao Paulo Medical School(approval No.624.065)on April 23,2014.

Evidences of Holocene transgression on Domingos Petrolini Swamp, southern coastal plain, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

The Domingos Petrolini Swamp, located on the Southern coastal Plain of Rio Grande do Sul, near the town of Rio Grande, constitutes an ample holocene lagoonal deposit. Events related to the holocene transgression and their diverse phases of glacial-eustatic ocillations were found through palynological analysis. Bases on these palynological data, four distinct phases to the paleoenvironmental evolution of the ecosystem were identified. It has also shown a transgressive restricted marine sequence on the base, which suggests the existence of a coastal brackish lagoon or a marisme type of environment. Later, there was a gradation for continentality conditions along with a scarce pollinical record. The third phase is characterized by the presence of marine components and halophyte vegetation, showing another transgressive event in that place. Lastly, the end of direct marine influence over the swamp was recorded and also the vegetation development as it appears these days.
