Hypoglycemic effects were investigated in the ethanolic extract of fruits of Phyllanthus emblica Linn. with long evans rats (100-120 g). Residual gut sucrose content, gut perfusion and disaccharidase activity studies were carried out to assess these activities. The residual gut sucrose content study was carried out to reveal the amount of sucrose remaining in the gastro intestinal tract (GIT) at six different segments. The ethanolic fruit extract of Phyllanthus emblica Linn. significantly increases the residual sucrose content throughout the gut after sucrose ingestion. Study on intestinal enzyme activity showed that the extract caused a significant (p 0.05), dose dependent inhibition of intestinal disaccharidase enzyme activity. Evaluation of the effect of the plant extract on intestinal enzyme activity showed significant inhibition of intestinal disaccharidase activity, suggesting that reduction of sucrose absorption may be partly related to the inhibition of disaccharidase activity in the gut. The gut perfusion analysis showed that the extract significantly reduced intestinal glucose absorption. The results of the present study suggest that ethanolic extract of Phyllanthus emblica Linn. has significant antidiabetic effects in a dose dependent manner and this may be effective in the treatment of diabetes.

Our aim is to report 4 cases of central retinal vein occlusion following COVID-19 vaccine administration. In this case series, 4 patients between 23-32 years of age presented to us with unilateral central retinal vein occlusion after 2-15 days of getting vaccinated against COVID-19. One patient was a known case of hypertension and 1 was hypothyroid. All the patients had disc swelling, flame shaped haemorrhages, dilated and tortuous blood vessels in the retina. One patient had cystoid macular edema and was treated with intravitreal ranibizumab. As there were no positive systemic risk factors or incidents, COVID-19 vaccines might have an association with the central retinal vein occlusion in these cases. .

Mitochondrial DNA Control Region Variation from Bangladesh: Sequence Analysis for the Establishment of a forensic Database

Mitochondrial DNA sequences of the entire control region and three coding regions were analyzed in 108 unrelated individuals from three regions of Bangladesh. Sequence evaluation was performed with validated primers and combined sequence comparison led to the identification of 14 different haplotypes characterized by 37 variable polymorphic sites. The Bangladeshi sequences exhibited high variations and low random match probability, indicating for forensic application. The mean pairwise difference between individual was 9.698 ± 1.8658 nucleotides (95% CI 9.67 - 9.69), compared to a mean pairwise difference of 9.890 ± 4.189 nucleotides reported from Northeast Asia and suggested significant differences in the mtDNA composition of the various populations. The sequence diversity of 108 Bangladeshi Bengali samples (n = 216 chromosomes) was estimated to be 0.8475 ± 0.13406. This study first time reports that the comparison of closely related mtDNA sequences can be very useful for improving mtDNA database quality, as well as provide haplotype information for forensic study in mainstream population of Bangladesh.

Chest radiography findings and hematological values: Early findings on COVID-19 patients from Turkey

Objective:To investigate the chest radiography findings,hematological values and the risk factors of the mortality of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Methods:Patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in a secondary-level state hospital in Turkey from March to April 2020 were included in the ***-19 diagnosis was confirmed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain *** routine blood tests and chest radiography findings were *** relationship between chest radiography findings and hematological values and risk factors of the mortality of COVID-19 were ***:In total,94 patients with confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis were included in the *** them,33 patients did not have lung involvement(RALE score of 0),and 42 had moderate lung involvement(RALE score of 1 to 4),and 19 had severe lung involvement(RALE score of 5 to 8).Patients with higher RALE scores were significantly elder(P=0.000)and had significantly lower lymphocyte count(P=0.032).Patients in need of intensive care had a lower mean number of platelets compared to patients who did not require intensive care(P=0.007).The receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that RALE score(P=0.005),age(P=0.002),duration of symptoms(P=0.006),neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(P=0.007),and lymphocyte percentage(P=0.012)were significantly associated with the risk of ***:Patients with severe lung involvement have lower lymphocyte values and ***,RALE score,duration of symptoms,neutrophils/lymphocytes ratio,lymphocytes percentage are risk factors of mortality of COVID-19.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder by a chronic hyperglycemic condition because of defects in insulin secretion and insulin action or both. Minor cereals are often drought tolerant and fertilizer efficient. In this review we focus the content and bioavailability of phytochemicals in some minor cereals on the basis evidence for increasing plasma phytochemical concentrations and reducing oxidative stress as well as inflammation in humans. Phenolics and flavanoids are major phytochemicals and may be available with high concentration in minor cereals but as tightly attached with cell wall, their bioavailability is mostly limited. Clinical trials concluded that vitamin E and other common antioxidants were not helpful for managing diabetic complications. Vicious cycles can cause type 1 DM, where as hypoglycemia can forward to down and regulate neuroendocrine. Increased phytochemical bioavailability may be achieved through bio processing of grains but the improvements might be small and have not yet led to changes in clinical associated with reduced risk of T2D. furthermore, the effects of minor cereals against oxidative stress in healthy individuals can be very low or not occurred but systemic inflammation can be reduced in people after huge intake. More than 300 Indian medicinal plants have antidiabetic property but exact mechanisms for hypoglycemic action of many plants are still unknown. further studies are required to pay attention toward direct role of minor cereal phytochemicals on alarming diseases diabetes.

Background: Vitamin D plays a pivotal role in supporting the immune system, helping to reduce the risk of infections and certain autoimmune diseases. Adequate vitamin D levels may be associated with a reduced risk of certain health conditions like pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and postpartum depression. Brittle bones, osteoporosis in the elderly, and osteomalacia in young children are all symptoms of vitamin D insufficiency. Additionally, it contributes to problems linked to gum disease, including an increase in dental cavities, alveolar bone loss around the teeth, and other problems. It could lead to depression, tiredness, and a loss of appetite. In this study, urban children and adolescents in Dhaka city, Bangladesh are examined for vitamin D deficiency, insufficiency, and sufficiency. Methods: The Study was a cross-sectional study conducted under Dhaka National Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka and additionally included two other health centers Medinova Medical Services and Monoara General Hospital Service Golap bag, Dhaka from October 2020 to November 2021. The study location was at the 3 (Three) different hospitals which was located in Dhaka City. In this cross-sectional study, Participants will be selected purposively and conveniently based on the age categories from 0 - 19 years of age at the outdoor department of the hospital. The study included the secondary dataset of ambulatory individuals who came to the 3 (three) hospitals, randomly to evaluate serum vitamin D levels on referral from a general out-patient-department (OPD). They were examined for laboratory findings of serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D levels to determine vitamin D deficiency, insufficiency, and sufficiency among children and adolescent groups of both male and female Sex. Results: A total of 6394 individuals with a diverse age group were statistically examined for laboratory findings of serum vitamin D levels. Background: Post caesarean section (CS) wound infection or surgical site infection is a leading cause of prolonged hospital stay or readmission. An understanding of its risk factors is important. Methods: A case control study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital, in Dhaka, Bangladesh from January to June 2014 to evaluate the risk factors of postoperative surgical site infection following CS. One hundred patients were studied. Results: fifty patients of post CS wound infection (surgical site infection: SSI) were selected as cases. Body mass index > 25 (kg/m2), anemia (p = 0.001), prolonged rupture of membrane (p = 0.005), prolonged operation time (p = 0.019), and junior surgeons performing the operation (p = 0.011) were the risk factors for CS-SSI. Conclusions: Pre- and postoperative care and surgical training of junior doctors should be directed to these risk factors.

Tourism is changing rapidly as nature and heritage destinations become more important, and as conventional tourism are forced to meet tougher environmental requirements. Therefore, geotourism emerges to meet the new demand for nature based tourism. It is a new form of sustainable tourism which aims to educate people the aesthetic, cultural, recreational and aesthetic value of geological heritage resources and plays as a solution for the apparent conflict between economic growth and environmental quality. With proper enforcement emplaced, this idea of protection through usage should lead to an increase in geological, environmental and socio-cultural awareness among geotourists and local guardians of geological heritage. On the other hand, the growing economic significance of nature tourism might trigger temptation to ignore any possible negative environmental and socio-cultural impacts(e.g. visitor over capacity, unaware and consumptive tourists, inadequate knowledge and enforcement during the construction of tourism infrastructures and amenities ***) consequently resulting in the same harmful effects as that of mass tourism which may put geoheritage resources under a serious threat and there rises the possibility of net loss of geotourism due to greater costs to compared to the benefits. The economic concept of value refers to any net change in the welfare of society. Hence, the measurement of the relative costs(direct, indirect and intangible) and benefits(economic, social, environmental and landscape) of geotourism is important in order to understand the impact of geotourism on the community as a whole, to protect community wellbeing, and to ensure the long term viability of the natural area tourism product. Abelmoschus is a genus of about fifteen species belongs to the family Malvaceae. The herb, popularly known as Lady’s finger or Okra (in English) is a nutritional source used for both medicinal and culinary purposes. The plant is widely distributed from Africa to Asia, Southern Europe, and America. This comprehensive account provides a botanical description of the plant, its phytochemical constituents and pharmacological activities focusing anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, anti-adhesive, gastro-protective, hepatoprotective, and immunomodulating actions. Most of the pharmacological effects can be explained by the constituents like tannins, terpenoids, flavonoids and glycosides present in all plant parts. However, future efforts should concentrate more on in vitro and in vivo studies and also on clinical trials in order to confirm traditional wisdom in the light of a rational phytotherapy. The present review is an overview of phytochemistry and ethnopharmacological studies that support many of the traditional?ethnomedicinal uses of the plant.
