Geochronological constraints on the metamorphic sole of.the Semail ophiolite in the United Arab Emirates

The Semail ophiolite of.Oman and the United Arab Emirates （UAE） provides the best preserved large slice of.oceanic lithosphere exposed on the continental crust, and of.ers unique opportunities to study processes of.ocean crust f.rmation, subduction initiation and obduction. Metamorphic rocks exposed in the eastern UAE have traditionally been interpreted as a metamorphic sole to the Semail ophiolite. However, there has been some debate over the possibility that the exposures contain components of.older Arabian continental crust. To help answer this question, presented here are new zircon and f.tile U-Pb geochronological data f.om various units of.the metamorphic rocks. Zircon was absent in most samples. Those that yielded zircon and f.tile provide dominant single age populations that are 95-93 Ma, partially overlapping with the known age of.oceanic crust f.rmation （96.5-94.5 Ma）, and partially overlapping with cooling ages of.the metamorphic rocks （95 90 Ma）. The data are interpreted as dating high-grade metamorphism during subduction burial of.the sediments into hot mantle lithosphere, and rapid cooling during their subsequent exhumation. A f.w discordant zircon ages, interpreted as late Neoproterozoic and younger, represent minor detrital input f.om the continent. No evidence is f.und in f.vour of.the existence of.older Arabian continental crust within the metamorphic rocks of.the UAE.

We present new U-Pb and Hf.zircon isotope data on a suite of.granitoids f.om a hitherto unstudied area of.the Palaeoproterozoic Lupa terrane of.the Ubendian belt in SW *** major part of.the area comprises a sequence of.upper amphibolite grade paragneisses and ***,the f.eld relations show a complex history of.granitoid emplacement f.om early pre-tectonic strongly f.liated diorite-tonalite-granodiorite orthogneiss to late tectonic,weakly def.rmed ellipsoidal granitoid *** were f.llowed by emplacement of.undef.rmed K-f.ldspar rich porphyritic alkali granite.U-Pb zircon data on the granitoids show their emplacement ages span the period^1925 Ma to 1890 Ma and constrain the culmination of.the Ubendian orogeny in the Lupa terrane to about 1900 *** undef.rmed K-f.ldspar rich Chimala granite,previously considered to be unconf.rmably overlain by the Buanji Group volcano-sedimentary rocks(recently shown to be^1675 Ma,not Neoproterozoic as originally thought)was dated at^1407 Ma showing that it must intrude the sedimentary rocks,although the age relationships are not exposed in the mapping *** is the f.rst record of.early Irumide/Kibaran-aged post-tectonic granites in this part of.East *** isotope data f.om the zircons show that the granitoids have a long crustal pre-history stretching back to as f.r as^3.9 Ga,and showing that the Lupa terrane may f.rm part of.the"metacratonic"margin of.an originally much more extensive Tanzania Craton.

＜正＞The U.S. Paper Industry annually spends in excess of.$6 billion on energy and is the third largest industrial user. In every mill there exists the possibility to reduce energy usage and thus reduce operating costs. Many energy reduction projects have simple paybacks of.less than one year. Cost reduction opportunities and pay backs are very dependant upon energy costs, thus need to be reviewed periodically as energy costs f.uctuate. Mill wide studies are not dif.icult, but do require a dedicated team and the application of.operations expertise and engineering knowledge. Opportunities should be prioritized based on the investment required, investment return, and overall mill impact. Reducing energy usage can reduce operation costs signif.cantly.

Urine albumin excretion: Characterization of.normal variability in healthy children

Objective: Elevated urine albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR) of.>30 mg/gm is a widely agreed upon indicator of.pathologic albuminuria in children. However, the most reliable specimen to measure ACR in children remains undef.ned. We assess the range and limits of.upright and supine total albumin and ACR in healthy children. Methods: Healthy children age 6 - 18 years completed 24-hour and split upright and supine urine collections. Upright, supine and 24-hour protein, albumin and creatinine were measured. Primary outcomes are range and variation in urine albumin by diurnal status, age, gender, BMI percentile and Tanner stage. Results: In healthy children, with mean age 12.9 year (sd 3.2), upright ACR was 2-f.ld greater than supine (13.9 vs 6.8 mg/gm, p = 0.02). The range of.ACR was much greater in the upright (2 - 323 mg/gm) compared to the supine (1.7 - 76 mg/gm) samples. The average total 24-hour urine albumin was 8.4 mg (sd 9.8) and the mean ACR was 8.9 mg/gm (sd 11.7). The 24-hour albumin increased with age and Tanner stage, but this relationship was not signif.cant af.er adjusting f.r BSA or urine creatinine. A supine or upright ACR of.>30 mg/gm was f.und in 5.4% of.each group. However, in all subjects with an elevated ACR on an individual upright or supine sample, a second 1st am ACR sample was normal. Conclusions: In healthy children there is a marked diurnal variability in ACR with a higher value f.om a daytime sample compared to 1st morning specimen. Screening f.r pathologic albuminuria should always use a f.rst morning urine specimen.

Irradiation increases the yield stress and embrittles light water reactor(LWR)pressure vessel *** this study,we demonstrate some of.the potential benef.ts and risks of.using machine learning models to predict irradiation hardening extrapolated to low f.ux,high f.uence,extended lif. *** machine learning training data included the Irradiation Variable f.r lower f.ux irradiations up to an intermediate f.uence,plus the Belgian Reactor 2 and Advanced Test Reactor 1 f.r very high f.ux irradiations,up to very high ***,the machine learning model predictions f.r the high f.uence,intermediate f.ux Advanced Test Reactor 2 irradiations are superior to extrapolations of.existing hardening *** successf.l extrapolations showed that machine learning models are capable of.capturing key intermediate f.ux ef.ects at high *** approaches,applied to expanded databases,could be used to predict hardening in LWRs under lif.-extension conditions.
