In the last f.w years,f.ed additives have been used in animal nutrition to improve nutrient utilization,health parameters and animal perf.rmance.However,the use of.antibiotics as f.ed additives has allowed the occurrence of.antimicrobial resistance(AMR),which can bring as a consequence,an increase in the morbidity and mortality of.diseases that were previously treatable with antibiotics.In this context,antimicrobial peptides(AMP)have appeared as a promising strategy because they have multiple bio-logical activities and represent a powerf.l strategy to prevent the development of.resistant microor-ganisms.Despite the small number of.studies applied in vivo,AMP appear as a potent alternative to the use of.antibiotics in animal nutrition,due to an increase in f.ed ef.iciency and the prevention/treatment of.some animal diseases.This review discusses the problems associated with antimicrobial resistance and the use of.AMP as a strong candidate to replace conventional antibiotics,mainly in the animal industry.

The conditions used f.r f.iction stir welding of.duplex stainless steels determine the resulting mechanical and corrosion perf.rmance of.the material.This study investigates the corrosion resistance of.UNS S32750 and S32760 superduplex stainless steels(SDSSs)joined by f.iction stir welding,employing cyclic polarization,Mott–Schottky,and microscopy techniques f.r analysis.The microscopy images indicated the presence of.a deleterious intermetallic phase af.er electrolytic etching of.S32760,as well as decreased corrosion resistance.The presence of.molybdenum in the steels promoted better passive behavior at low pH.The Mott–Schottky curves revealed p-n heterojunction behavior of.the passive oxide.Images acquired af.er the polarization test by scanning electron microscopy showed higher passivation propensity with increases of.temperature and pH.

Purpose:Building upon pioneering work by f.ancis Narin and others,a new methodological approach to assessing the technological impact of.scientif.c research is presented.Design/methodology/approach:It is based on the analysis of.citations made in patent f.milies included in the PATSTAT database that is to scientif.c papers indexed in Scopus.f.ndings:An advanced citation matching procedure is applied to the data in order to construct two indicators of.technological impact:on the citing(patent)side,the country/region in which protection is sought and a patent f.mily’s propensity to cite scientif.c papers are taken into account,and on the cited(paper)side,a relative citation rate is def.ned f.r patent citations to papers that is similar to the scientif.c paper-to-paper citation rate in classical bibliometrics.Research limitations:The results are limited by the available data,in our case Scopus and PATSTAT,and especially by the lack of.standardization of.ref.rences in patents.This required a matching procedure that is neither trivial nor exact.Practical implications:Results at the country/region,document type,and publication age levels are presented.The country/region-level results in particular reveal f.atures that have remained hidden in analyses of.straight counts.Especially notable is that the rankings of.some Asian countries/regions move upwards when the proposed normalized indicator of.technological impact is applied as against the case with straight counts of.patent citations to those countries/regions’published papers.Originality/value:In our opinion,the level of.sophistication of.the indicators proposed in the current paper is unparalleled in the scientif.c literature,and provides a solid basis f.r the assessment of.the technological impact of.scientif.c research in countries/regions and institutions.

Direct soil temperature(ST)measurement is time-consuming and costly;thus,the use of.simple and cost-ef.ective machine learning(ML)tools is helpf.l.In this study,ML approaches,including KStar,instance-based K-nearest learning(IBK),and locally weighted learning(LWL),coupled with resampling algorithms of.bagging(BA)and dagging(DA)(BA-IBK,BA-KStar,BA-LWL,DA-IBK,DA-KStar,and DA-LWL)were developed and tested f.r multi-step ahead(3,6,and 9 d ahead)ST f.recasting.In addition,a linear regression(LR)model was used as a benchmark to evaluate the results.A dataset was established,with daily ST time-series at 5 and 50 cm soil depths in a f.rmland as models’output and meteorological data as models’input,including mean(T_(mean)),minimum(Tmin),and maximum(T_(max))air temperatures,evaporation(Eva),sunshine hours(SSH),and solar radiation(SR),which were collected at Isf.han Synoptic Station(Iran)f.r 13 years(1992–2005).Six dif.erent input combination scenarios were selected based on Pearson’s correlation coef.icients between inputs and outputs and f.d into the models.We used 70%of.the data to train the models,with the remaining 30%used f.r model evaluation via multiple visual and quantitative metrics.Our?ndings showed that T_(mean)was the most ef.ective input variable f.r ST f.recasting in most of.the developed models,while in some cases the combinations of.variables,including T_(mean)and T_(max)and T_(mean),T_(max),Tmin,Eva,and SSH proved to be the best input combinations.Among the evaluated models,BA-KStar showed greater compatibility,while in most cases,BA-IBK and-LWL provided more accurate results,depending on soil depth.f.r the 5 cm soil depth,BA-KStar had superior perf.rmance(i.e.,Nash-Sutclif.e ef.iciency(NSE)=0.90,0.87,and 0.85 f.r 3,6,and 9 d ahead f.recasting,respectively);f.r the 50 cm soil depth,DA-KStar outperf.rmed the other models(i.e.,NSE=0.88,0.89,and 0.89 f.r 3,6,and 9 d ahead f.recasting,respectively).The results con?rmed that all hybrid models had higher prediction capabilities than the LR model.

Phase-sensitive optical time-domain ref.ectometry(CDOTDR)is a well-established technique that provides spatiotemporal measurements of.an environmental variable in real time.This unique capability is being leveraged in an everincreasing number of.applications,f.om energy transportation or civil security to seismology.To date,a wide number of.dif.erent approaches have been implemented,providing a plethora of.options in terms of.perf.rmance(resolution,acquisition bandwidth,sensitivity or range).However,to achieve high spatial resolutions,detection bandwidths in the GHz range are typically required,substantially increasing the system cost and complexity.Here,we present a novel OOTDR approach that allows a customized time expansion of.the received optical traces.Hence,the presented technique reaches cm-scale spatial resolutions over t km while requiring a remarkably low detection bandwidth in the MHz regime.This approach relies on the use of.dual-comb spectrometry to interrogate the f.bre and sample the backscattered light.Random phase-spectral coding is applied to the employed combs to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio of.the sensing scheme.A comparison of.the proposed method with alternative approaches aimed at similar operation f.atures is provided,along with a thorough analysis of.the new trade-of.s.Our results demonstrate a radically novel high-resolution OOTDR scheme,which could promote new applications in metrology,borehole monitoring or aerospace.

Dear Editor,Breast cancer(BC)is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the f.f.h cause of.cancer-related death worldwide[1].Despite the advances in BC targeted therapies,cytotoxic chemotherapy is still widely used[2].However,around 20%-30%of.BC patients develop metastasis af.er treatment as a consequence of.drug resistance[3].In this context,microRNAs have emerged as potential therapeutic targets to overcome therapy resistance[4].Theref.re,we aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying resistance to doxorubicin,one of.the most ef.ective chemotherapeutic agents used in BC.Methods are detailed in Supplementary Materials.

Vocal divergence within species of.en corresponds to morphological, environmental, and genetic dif.erences between populations. Wolf.howls are long-range signals that encode individual, group, and subspecies dif.erences, yet the f.ctors that may drive this variation are poorly understood. f.rthermore, the taxonomic division within the genus remains contended and additional data are required to clarif. the position of.the Himalayan, North Af.ican, and Indian wolves within . We recorded 451 howls f.om the 3 most basal wolf.lineages-Himalayan -Himalayan haplotype, North Af.ican , and Indian wolves-and present a howl acoustic description within each clade. With an additional 619 howls f.om 7 Holarctic subspecies, we used a random f.rest classif.er and principal component analysis on 9 acoustic parameters to assess whether Himalayan, North Af.ican, and Indian wolf.howls exhibit acoustic dif.erences compared to each other and Holarctic wolf.howls. Generally, both the North Af.ican and Indian wolf.howls exhibited high mean f.ndamental f.equency (f.) and short duration compared to the Holarctic clade. In contrast, the Himalayan wolf.howls typically had lower mean f., unmodulated f.equencies, and short howls compared to Holarctic wolf.howls. The Himalayan and North Af.ican wolves had the most acoustically distinct howls and dif.ered signif.cantly f.om each other and to the Holarctic wolves. Along with the inf.uence of.body size and environmental dif.erences, these results suggest that genetic divergence and/or geographic distance may play an important role in understanding howl variation across subspecies.

Recent trends in communication technologies and unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)f.nd its application in several areas such as healthcare,surveillance,transportation,etc.Besides,the integration of.Internet of.things(IoT)with cloud computing environment of.ers several benef.ts f.r the UAV communication.At the same time,aerial scene classif.cation is one of.the major research areas in UAV-enabledMEC systems.In UAV aerial imagery,ef.icient image representation is crucial f.r the purpose of.scene classif.cation.The existing scene classif.cation techniques generate mid-level image f.atures with limited representation capabilities that of.en end up in producing average results.Theref.re,the current research work introduces a new DL-enabled aerial scene classif.cationmodel f.rUAV-enabledMECsystems.The presented model enables theUAVs to capture aerial imageswhich are then transmitted to MEC f.r f.rther processing.Next,CapsuleNetwork(CapsNet)-based f.ature extraction technique is applied to derive a set of.usef.l f.ature vectors f.om the aerial image.It is important to have an appropriate hyperparameter tuning strategy,since manual parameter tuning of.DL model tend to produce several conf.guration errors.In order to achieve this and to determine the hyperparameters of.CapsNetmodel,Shuf.led Shepherd Optimization(SSO)algorithm is implemented.f.nally,Backpropagation Neural Network(BPNN)classif.cation model is applied to determine the appropriate class labels of.aerial images.The perf.rmance of.SSO-CapsNet model was validated against two openly-accessible datasets namely,UC Merced(UCM)Land Use dataset andWHU-RS dataset.The proposed SSO-CapsNet model outperf.rmed the existing state-of.the-art methods and achieved maximum accuracy of.0.983,precision of.0.985,recall of.0.982,and f.score of.0.983.

Tomato production is inf.uenced by shoot branching,which is controlled by dif.erent hormones.Here we produced tomato plants overexpressing the cytokinin-deactivating gene CYTOKININ OXYDASE 2(CKX2).CKX2-overexpressing(CKX2-OE)plants showed an excessive growth of.axillary shoots,the opposite phenotype expected f.r plants with reduced cytokinin content,as evidenced by LC-MS analysis and ARR5-GUS staining.The TCP transcription f.ctor SlBRC1b was downregulated in the axillary buds of.CKX2-OE and its excessive branching was dependent on a f.nctional version of.the GRAS-f.mily gene LATERAL SUPPRESSOR(LS).Graf.ing experiments indicated that increased branching in CKX2-OE plants is unlikely to be mediated by root-derived signals.Crossing CKX2-OE plants with transgenic antisense plants f.r the strigolactone biosynthesis gene CAROTENOID CLEAVAGE DIOXYGENASE(CCD7-AS)produced an additive phenotype,indicating independent ef.ects of.cytokinin and strigolactones on increased branching.On the other hand,CKX2-OE plants showed reduced polar auxin transport and their bud outgrowth was reduced when combined with auxin mutants.Accordingly,CKX2-OE basal buds did not respond to auxin applied in the decapitated apex.Our results suggest that tomato shoot branching depends on a f.ne-tuning of.dif.erent hormonal balances and that perturbations in the auxin status could compensate f.r the reduced cytokinin levels in CKX2-OE plants.
