Pulsed Led’s Light at 650 nm Promote and at 470 nm Suppress Melatonin’s Secretion

In a previous research we have studied the ef.ect of.the stimulation of.the retina, by pulsed LED’s light of.dif.erent wavelength, on the spectral density of.the alpha rhythms of.the electroencephalogram [1] [2]. In conf.rmity to our results and the recent discovery of.a nonvisual pathway of.light f.om the retina to the brain, we are induced to search f.r the ef.ect of.stimulation of.the retina, with dif.erent wavelength, on the melatonin’s secretion. We have, theref.re, stimulated the retina with blue LED’s light 470 nm and red LED’s light 650 nm, and measured the melatonin’s secretion in saliva by means of.High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results show that melatonin values are higher with long wavelength stimulation (red, 650 nm) to be conf.onted with short wavelength stimulation where the values are lower (blue, 470 nm), the dif.erence being signif.cant (***). Action spectrum of.short wavelength, producing melatonin suppression, was already evidenced in vivo;it was also demonstrated that blue LED’s light dif.erentially modulated cell’s survival and growth, inducing mitochondrial suppression in vitro. We speculate, theref.re, that long wavelength light (red) produces photobiomodulation ef.ect at the level of.the retina and that this ef.ect is the opposite of.the ef.ect produced by the short wavelength (blue). The molecular mechanism underlying both ef.ects may be, we suppose, the activation (red) or depression (blue) of.the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase activity at the level of.the pool of.the retina’s ganglion cells.

Oxidative stress is one of.the main mechanisms responsible f.r male *** conditions such as varicocele,obesity,advanced age,and lif.style can lead to an increase in reactive oxygen species,causing an oxidative imbalance in the *** are sensitive to reactive oxygen species and require energy to carry out their main f.nction of.f.rtilizingthe *** reactive oxygen species can af.ect sperm metabolism,leading to immobility,impaired acrosome reaction,and celldeath,thereby impairing reproductive *** double-blind randomized study evaluated the ef.ect of.supplementation withL-carnitine,acetyl-L-carnitine,vitamins,and other nutrients on semen quality in 104 inf.rtile patients with or without varicocele,while also investigating the impact of.f.ctors such as obesity and advanced age on *** concentration signif.cantlyincreased in the supplemented group compared to the placebo group(P=0.0186).Total sperm count also signif.cantly increasedin the supplemented group(P=0.0117),as did sperm motility(P=0.0120).The treatment had a positive ef.ect on patients upto 35 years of.age in terms of.sperm concentration(P=0.0352),while a body mass index(BMI)above 25 kg m^(−2) had a negativeef.ect on sperm concentration(P=0.0110).Results were not showing a net benef.t in stratif.ing patients in accordance withtheir BMI since sperm quality increase was not af.ected by this *** conclusion,antioxidant supplementation may bebenef.cial f.r inf.rtile patients and has a more positive ef.ect on younger patients with a normal weight.

Using TiO2-Biocharcoal and TiO2-Diatomite f.r Photodisinf.ction in Washing Machine Wastewater

The photodisinf.ction process using biomolded semiconductor photocatalysts can inactivate bacteria in wastewater washing machine samples. The comparative study evaluated the photocatalyst material titanium dioxide (TiO2) synthesized with diatomite and biocharcoal biotemplate (TiO2-Biocharcoal and TiO2-Diatomite) in photodisinf.ction processes using domestic washing machine wastewater samples, the results of.bacterial inactivation were above 96%. The ef.iciency of.the photodisinf.ction process was evaluated by counting the number of.colonies of.the bacteria. Experiments under LED solar lamps presented similar bacterial inactivation, and a correlation with kinetic models. The kinetic study demonstrated a curved regression, indicating a better f.t with the Hom model. A tail at the end of.the modeling curve indicates the presence of.a high concentration of.inactive bacteria in the medium, while a shoulder at the beginning of.the curve suggests a heterogeneous sample with a high concentration of.gram-positive bacteria. The toxicity tests perf.rmed with wastewater samples without light exposure indicated low toxicity f.r both materials. The study presented promising disinf.ction results f.r an accessible and ef.icient photo-sterilization process of.water contaminated with bacteria using abundant solar and renewable energy throughout the national territory. .

The increasing importance of.treatment of.lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS),while avoiding side ef.ects and maintaining sexual f.nction,has allowed f.r the development of.minimally invasive surgical therapies(MiSTs).Recently,the European Association of.Urology guidelines reported a paradigm shif. f.om the management of.benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)to the management of.nonneurogenic male *** aim of.the present review was to evaluate the ef.icacy and saf.ty of.the most commonly used MisTs:ablative techniques such as aquablation,prostatic artery embolization,water vapor energy,and transperineal prostate laser ablation,and nonablative techniques such as prostatic urethral lif. and temporarily implanted nitinol device(iTIND).MiSTs are becoming a new promise,even if.clinical trials with longer f.llow-up are still *** of.them are still under investigation and,to date,only a f.w options have been given as a recommendation f.r *** cannot be considered as standard of.care and are not suitable f.r all *** and disadvantages should be underlined,without f.rgetting our objective:treatment of.LUTS and re-treatment avoidance.

Alpha Rhythms Response to 10 Hz f.icker Is Wavelength Dependent

Since Adrian and Metthew [1], light may be considered the dominant stimulus f.r the brain. This statement is conf.rmed af.er the discovery of.the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) that regulates the master biological clock [2]. In 1998 the discovery of.photopigment melanopsin in the ganglion cells of.the retina, give new insight in the importance of.the light in the pathophysiology of.the brain [3]. We have studied the ef.ect of.f.ashing at 10 Hz with LED light of.dif.erent wavelength on the response of.the alpha system. We have shown that this response, consistent with the drive of.the f.equency and the augmentation of.the voltage of.the alpha rhythms, is f.r more signif.cant with the RED-LED than GREEN-LED or BLUE-LED or WHITE-LED (three-chrome) light f.ashing. We stem the hypothesis that the amplitude increase and phase reset of.the alpha waves produced by RED-LED f.ashing at 10 Hz may be due either to photobiomodulation on the cytochromo c oxidase [4,5] and/or of.the photopigment melanopsin, at the level of.the retinal ganglion cells, that reinf.rce the incoming cone-LHC signal and theref.re the projection to the SCN [6] or to reinf.rcement of.postsynaptic short term responsiveness, in retinal cone-LHC synapse, due to repetitive stimulation [7,8] or both. We may speculate that the increase of.amplitude and phase reset of.alpha rhythms, due to f.ashing at 10 Hz, is primarily modulated in the retina.

In this work, the non-isothermal dissolution kinetics of.the sigma phase in duplex stainless steels has been studied and modelled. A semi-empirical model is proposed to describe the kinetics of.sigma phase precipitation/dissolution during continuous heating starting f.om the isothermal transf.rmation kinetics. The proposed model, which presumes validity of.the additivity rule, is validated by means of.experimental investigations. A good agreement is f.und between experimental and analytical results.

Modelling sediment delivery using connectivity components at the experimental SPA2 basin, Sicily(Italy)

Sediment delivery ratio can be used as a measure of.sediment connectivity and it can be linked to the structural connectivity(morphological unit, slope length, slope steepness, travel time) of.a basin and to the f.nctional connectivity(rainf.ll-runof. processes at morphological unit scale). In this paper the sediment connectivity approach was applied at basin scale both using Sediment Delivery Distributed(SEDD) model, which takes into account the hillslope sediment transport, and sediment yield measurements carried out at SPA2 experimental basin(Sicily, Italy). The expression of.the sediment delivery ratio SDRi of.a morphological unit was modif.ed f.r highlighting two components corresponding to the structural(SDR_(L,i)) and f.nctional(SDR_(f.i)) sediment connectivity, respectively. f.r SPA2 basin the f.equency distribution of.the travel time of.each morphological unit was used to estimate the coef.icient βL of.the structural component of.the sediment delivery ratio of.each morphological unit. Then, using the sediment yield measurements carried out at the outlet of.the experimental SPA2 basin in the period April 2000-March 2015, the SEDD model was calibrated at event scale f.r estimating the coef.icient βf.of.the f.nctional component of.the sediment delivery ratio. At event scale the developed analysis stated that the f.nctional connectivity is dependent on the magnitude of.erosion events. Intermediate and high events, which were characterized by the lowest values of.the f.nctional coef.icient, determine a more high f.nctional connectivity and are characterized by a more ef.icient sediment transport along the hillslopes. f.nally, at annual scale, the model was calibrated f.r the period 2000-2015 and relationships f.r estimating the coef.icient βf.a of.the f.nctional component of.the sediment delivery ratio taking into account the intensity of.erosion events occurring in each year were determined.
