The search f.r new biomarkers predictive of.type 2 diabetes currently constitutes a research avenue in Bioclinical. Total homocysteine remains a pref.rred target due to its involvement in the occurrence of.degenerative complications in type 2 diabetics. The aim of.this work was to study hyperhomocysteinemia and other biochemical markers associated with T2D in the Congolese population. This was an analytical case-control study carried out between October 2022 and October 2023. The study population consisted of.150 subjects including 100 T2D patients and 50 control subjects. The main clinical data were collected on a pre-established f.rm. Homocysteine determination was carried out by the sandwich ELISA method. The other biochemical markers were measured by colorimetric enzymatic methods. Hyperhomocysteinemia was present in 27.3% (41/150) of.the entire study population. Type 2 diabetics had a f.equency of.hyperhomocysteinemia of.36% (36/100) and control 10% (5/50) (p = 0.001). The mean hyperhomocysteinemia concentration was 31.9 μmol/l with extremes ranging f.om 18 to 103 μmol/l. means of.biological markers between diabetics and controls showed a statistically signif.cant dif.erence (p = 0.01). The risk f.ctors associated with this HHcy were: sex (OR = 3.5), age (OR = 9.4), sedentary lif.style (OR = 3.4) and glycosylated hemoglobin (OR = 12) with a p-value mocysteinemia can be considered as a predictive biomarker in the bioclinic of.Congolese type 2 diabetic patients.

Introduction: Pheochromocytoma is a rare cause of.endocrine hypertension. We report the case of.an extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma discovered in the setting of.an abdominal mass. Observation: The patient was 25-year-old and presented with headaches, excessive sweating and palpitations, f.llowed by a sensation of.abdominal weightlessness and diastolic arterial hypertension. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a retroperitoneal, right para-renal extra-adrenal mass. In biology, an increase in urinary methoxylated derivatives at the expense of.normetanephrine. Conclusion: Pheochromocytoma is a rare disease, diagnosed by measuring urinary or plasma methoxylated derivatives. Conventional or nuclear imaging allows topographic diagnosis. Genetic studies helps to identif. other tumors.

Introduction: Pubertal development is a process leading to the acquisition of.reproductive capacities. Among the f.ctors that inhibit pubertal development are chronic diseases including sickle cell anemia, which is a public health problem. Objectives: Describe the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of.adolescents with sickle cell disease. Report the prevalence of.abnormalities of.pubertal development. Identif. associated f.ctors that delay pubertal development. Patients and methods: This was a multicenter analytical cross-sectional study over 7 months at the National Ref.rence Center f.r Sickle Cell Disease and, at the Brazzaville University Hospital. It concerned adolescents with sickle cell disease aged between 10 to 19 years. The study f.cused on the sociodemographic characteristics of.adolescents, the natural history of.sickle cell anemia and the evaluation of.secondary sexual characteristics using the Tanner classif.cation. Nutritional status was assessed by calculating body mass index (BmI) and height/age and weight/age ratios. Results: Of.the 347 adolescents included, the average age of.the adolescents was 15.1 ± 2.5 years, 56.5% had normal puberty, 42.6% had delayed puberty and 0.9% had impuberty. The associated f.ctors were under-nutrition with less than 3 meals/day (p = 0.0000), social status with more marked pubertal delay in orphans (p = 0.00127), more than 5 hospitalizations per year (p = 0.0013), pubertal delay was statistically signif.cant in adolescents who had more than 3 vaso-occlusive crises (p = 0.0000), and those who had more than 5 blood transf.sions since the discovery of.the disease (p = 0.0127). Conclusion: The f.ctors that hinder pubertal development in sickle cell patients are intrinsic (sickle cell anemia with its complications) and extrinsic (environmental: diet, social status). The appearance of.secondary sexual characteristics is delayed on average by two years compared to the general population.

Type 1 diabetes is one of.the main chronics pathologies in children. Ef.icient care requires a good knowledge of.the disease by the parents, and an exploration of.psychosocial experience of.the parents, who are on the f.ont lines of.the support. Objectives: Assess the impact of.parents’ level of.knowledge, f.om their psychosocial experience and f.om the quality of.lif. on the glycemic control of.children, adolescents and young adults with type 1 (DT1) diabetes in Brazzaville. Patients and methods: This was an analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection during 7 months at Brazzaville University Hospital CHU, involving 103 parents. We studied socio-demographic variables, the balance of.children’s diabetes by glycated hemoglobin, parents’ knowledge of.diabetes by questionnaire “michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center’s Revised Diabetes Knowledge Test”. The assessment of.anxiety and depression through the “Hospital Anxiety and Depression” (HAD) score. Parental stress was assessed by the “Pediatric Inventory f.r Parents” (PIP). Results: We reported certain anxiety symptomatology in 60 parents (58.3%). Certain depression was reported in 63 parents (61.2%), and a lesser degree of.parental distress. These psychosocial disorders in the parents did not inf.uence the glycemic balance of.the children. Low socio-economic level of.the f.mily (p = 0.001), poor knowledge about diabetes (p = 0.046) and poorer quality of.lif. (p Conclusion: Psychosocial disorders were well observed in parents of.DT1 children.

Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) remains a major global public health problem. This complex metabolic disorder can lead to various complications, including cardiovascular diseases (leading cause of.death) in T2D. Among the biochemical markers associated with increased risk f.r cardiovascular disease, homocysteine is currently one of.the predictive markers under evaluation. We investigate the link between hyperhomocysteinemia and diabetes complications in DT2 population in Brazzaville. methodology: We conducted a cross-sectional analytical study, f.om October to December 2022. One hundred and f.f.y participants were included, 100 patients T2D (34 with complications, 33 with comorbidities, 33 without), and 50 patients controls. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were collected. Homocysteine (Hcy) serum levels were measured using Sandwich ELISA method. Results: Study population was composed of.50% males and 50% f.males with sex ratio of.1;mean age was 52.2 ± 10.8 years (30 - 83). The prevalence of.hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) was 36% (20% moderate Hcy, 15% intermediate and 1% severe). mean Hcy concentration was 31.9 μmol/l (18 - 103). Age, gender and physical inactivity were strongly correlated to Hcy (OR of.3.5;9.4 and 3 respectively). multivariate analysis showed that HHcy was a risk accelerator f.r degenerative complications (stroke: OR = 6.2;ischemic heart disease: 4.9;neuropathy: 9.2;retinopathy: 4.5 and peripheral arterial disease: 4.9). Conclusion: These f.ndings suggest that hyperhomocysteinemia can be considered as a predictive marker to be taken into account in targeting cardiovascular risk in Congolese subjects with T2D.
