Introduction: The dietary changes and the new lif.styles which occurred in low-income countries like Benin resulted in a nutritional transition with its burden of.overweight and obesity among the child and adolescent population who is still suf.ering f.om undernutrition. This study aimed to identif. the f.ctors associated with overweight and obesity in the schools of.Parakou in 2017. Patients and Methods: This research work is a cross-sectional descriptive and analytic study carried out f.om May to June 2017 in the state-owned and private high/secondary schools of.Parakou. It f.cused on a representative sample of.730 high school students randomly selected according to the WHO two-stage cluster sampling technique. The weight and size of.each of.the students included in the study were measured;and then their body mass index (BMI) was calculated. The data related to respondents’ dietary pattern and lif.style were collected. Those data were processed using the sof.ware Epi Inf. version 7.2.1. The prevalence ratio (PR) was used to measure associations with their conf.dence interval and the dif.erence was considered signif.cant when p f.ndings: In total, 730 students were involved in the study, including 377 male i.e. a ratio of.1.1. Prevalence of.overweight/obesity was estimated at 16.2% including 12.5% of.overweight and 3.7% of.obesity. The f.ctors associated with overweight and obesity were f.male sex, excessive intake of.sugar-sweetened beverages and drinks, low level of.physical activity and f.mily history of.obesity. Conclusion: A behavior change regarding the dif.erent contributing f.ctors is necessary to reverse the trends in overweight and obesity prevalence in the high/secondary schools in the District of.Parakou.

Introduction: Predictions on the prevalence of.diabetes mellitus, according to the International Diabetes f.deration, indicated 9.3% in 2019 and nearly 10.9% of.the general population in 2045. In Benin, the increase in this prevalence, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is constantly increasing. Diabetic f.ot is one of.its most common complications. The aim of.this work was to study the prognostic f.ctors of.diabetic f.ot in the Department of.Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition of.the CNHU-HKM of.Cotonou. Patients and method: This is a descriptive and analytical retrospective study of.the prognostic f.ctors of.diabetic f.ot over a period of.3 years f.om January 2019 to December 2021 in patients who have been hospitalized or f.llowed on an outpatient basis f.r diabetic f.ot in the Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition Department of.the CNHU-HKM of.Cotonou. Results: A total of.112 patients were included in this study. The average age of.the patients was 59.70 ± 2.10 years. A male predominance was noted with a sex ratio (M/f. of.1.7. Mixed gangrene and phlegmons were the most common lesions. According to the classif.cation of.diabetic f.et according to the University of.Texas, 59.1% of.patients had a 100% risk of.amputation. Ten patients died f.om sepsis (8.9%). The average blood glucose on admission was 2.74 ± 0.23 g/l, ref.ecting the glycemic imbalance in these patients. There is a statistically signif.cant association between the duration of.progression of.diabetes, the type of.lesion and amputation. Patients whose diabetes has lasted more than 30 years and patients who are not monitored have a greater risk of.death. Conclusion: Diabetic patients most of.en consulted at a late stage, compromising conservative treatment. The duration of.diabetes and the type of.lesion on admission were the main f.ctors leading to amputation, thus compromising the f.nctional prognosis. Objective: To study the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutical, anatomopathological aspects and prognosis of the ectopic pregnancy. Methodology: It was a transversal and descriptive study from January 1st to December 31st 2018 at the department of obstetrics and gynecology of the Teaching Hospital Sourô Sanou of.Bobo-Dioulasso. Results: During the study period, we registered 4706 deliveries with 1272 cases of cesareans and 79 cases of ectopic pregnancy with a frequency of 1 ectopic pregnancy for 60 deliveries and 6 ectopic pregnancies for 100 caesareans. The average age of the patients in our study was 28.66 years old (19 - 45 years) and the average parity of 1.96 [0 - f.nt-f.mily:Verdana;">6]. Married women represented 83.54 % of.the workf.rce. The risk f.ctors were dominated by sexual transmitted diseases (25.31%) and abortions (20.25%). Erectile dysf.nction was one of.the most common complications in diabetic patients. According to several studies, its prevalence was two to three times higher in diabetics than in the general population. But it has of.en been overlooked despite the f.ct that it seriously af.ects the quality of.lif.. The aim of.this study was to determine the prevalence of.erectile dysf.nction and its associated f.ctors in diabetics’ patients. This was a cross-sectional analysis study of.76 male diabetic patients who consulted by the Department of.Endocrinology f.om June 22, 2019 to September 25, 2019. Erectile dysf.nction was diagnosed by calculating the IIEf.score. Statistical comparisons were made between patients without and with Erectile dysf.nction chi-square test with a signif.cance level p Conclusion: This study showed a high prevalence of.erectile dysf.nction in diabetics. Signif.cant concomitant f.ctors were hypertension, diabetes imbalance and the duration of.diabetes. It was, theref.re, important to include systematic screening f.r erectile dysf.nction at least annually, as well as other complications of.diabetes.

Introduction: Home accidents (HA) are of.en unknown in Benin compared to inf.ctious pathologies. The aim of.this work was to determine the prevalence and the f.ctors associated with HA in children admitted to the CHUD-OP. Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted f.om August 1st to October 31th 2021. We studied children aged 0 to 18 who presented with HA to the pediatrics and emergency reception and triage departments at CHUD-OP. We def.ned HA as “any event occurring inside the home or in the immediate vicinity of.the home that resulted in an injury which was not done deliberately. Results: The hospital f.equency of.HA was 8.4% (61/725). The median age was 5 years with a male to f.male ratio of.1.6. Trauma was the leading cause of.HA (59%) f.llowed by poisoning (23%). f.lling was the main mechanism of.trauma (80.6%). The toxins causing poisoning were dominated by caustics (28.6%). The age of.the children (p = 0.02), the level of.education of.the mothers (p , and the area they occur (kitchen with p = 0.04 and on the stairs with p = 0.03) were statistically associated with the occurrence of.trauma. Conclusion: HA are common among children admitted at CHUD-OP and f.ctors associated with HA are identif.ed. Measures to prevent home accidents among children in the community should be considered.

Background: f.brile seizures are the most f.equent neurological disorder in pediatrics. They have multiple etiologies and require urgent management. The aim of.this survey was to study f.brile seizures in children at the Departmental Teaching Hospital of.Ouémé Plateau (DTH/OP). Method: This was a cross-sectional survey, conducted f.om January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020, in the pediatric department of.the DTH/OP. Children aged 1 month to 18 years, hospitalized f.r f.brile seizures recognized at the anamnesis and/or during the physical examination were included in this study. Results: The f.equency of.seizures was 17.08% (510/2986). The male to f.male ratio was equal to 1.4. The mean age was 44.27 ± 40.75 months. The seizure was generalized tonic-clonic in 77.9% of.cases and localized in 11.6% of.cases. The main etiologies were severe malaria (75.5%), sepsis (21.6%), enteric inf.ctions (14.9%) and pneumonia (10.2%). Diazepam was the anticonvulsant treatment used in the f.rst intention (79.7%). Most of.the children were hospitalized f.r 3 to 7 days. The recovery rate was 82.3% and the f.tality rate was equal to 17.7%. Eight children presented sequelae. There was a statistically signif.cant link between the children’s clinical outcome and age (p f.ctions (p = 0.003). Conclusion: f.brile seizures were f.equent in the pediatric emergency department of.the DTH/OP. There is a need to intensif. sensitization on malaria prevention measures in the community and improve case management at the hospital.

Mycotic Inf.ctions in Diabetic Patients in Casablanca

Introduction: The diabetes constitutes the f.ctor risk of.mycotic inf.ctions. The pathogenic agents depend on the climate, geography and the migration. The objective of.this study is to evaluate the prevalence of.the mycotic inf.ctions within the hospitalized diabetic patients, to describe their localization and identif. the responsible germs. Patients and methods: It is about a descriptive and retrospective study conducted f.om November 2015 to March 2016 in endocrinology of.ice at CHU Ibn Roch of.Casablanca. It was included all diabetic patients hospitalized with whom mycotic inf.ction has been suspected. Results: In total 350 diabetic patients have been hospitalized during the period of.research. A mycotic inf.ction has been suspected in 138 patients corresponding to the prevalence of.39.4 percent. The means localizations of.mycotic inf.ctions were f.et (intertrigos: 38.4%), onychomycosis (29%), vulvovaginal (21.7%) and mouth (oral candidiasis: 13.3%). The most f.equent pathogenic agents were dermatophytes (Trichophyton rubrum: 61%, Trichophyton mentagrophytes: 6.3%) and Candida albicans (23.1%). The direct test and the culture were negative in 7.3%. Conclusion: One-third of.the diabetic patients showed a mycotic inf.ction. The f.et, constitute the predilection localization of.mycotic inf.ctions in the diabetic. The dermatophytes and Candida albicans constitute the most f.equent pathogenic agents f.und in our study.

Interest of.Procalcitonin Measurement in Children with Cerebral Malaria in Southern Benin

Introduction: Cerebral malaria is a major complication of.the Plasmodium f.lciparum inf.ction with a high case f.tality rate. The objective of.this study was to determine the relationship between cerebral malaria and high serum procalcitonin (PCT) level in children. Method: This was a prospective descriptive and analytical cohort study conducted over 12 months, on a series of.PCT blood tests in children aged 6 months to 15 years old hospitalized f.r cerebral malaria in the pediatric wards of.f.ur hospitals in southern Benin. The cerebral malaria diagnosis was done based on WHO criteria. Blood samples f.r PCT measurement were collected on admission, 24 hours and 48 hours af.er the malaria therapy initiation. Student’s test, Pearson’s chi2 test, f.sher’s test and Kruskal-Wallis test were used where appropriate. f.r all comparisons the dif.erence was signif.cant when p was less than 5%. Results: Sixty-f.ve children were included in the study with a sex ratio of.1.41. The age group of.children under 5 years was the most represented, at 57%. PCT levels were high in 92.3% of.children at admission, 90.8% at 24 hours and 84.6% at 48 hours. f.rty-nine children had a positive clinical outcome while 16 died (24.6%). PCT levels were generally high over the three days of.hospitalization, but higher at admission in case of.death (p = 0.000). The association between PCT level and parasitemia at admission was signif.cant (p = 0.04). Conclusion: In the view of.the results, blood PCT level measured at admission could be predictive of.the disease outcome in children with cerebral malaria.

As in other countries of.West Af.ica, Benin has a low rate of.MCM utilization. The f.ctors which lead to this low rate of.use vary f.om one country to another. Purpose: The purpose of.this work was to determine the f.ctors associated with the use of.modern contraceptive method (MCM) by women of.childbearing age (WCBA) in Parakou in 2017. Materials and Methods: It was a cross-sectional and descriptive study with an analytical purpose among WCBA selected in households of.the municipality of.Parakou af.er a 2-degree cluster survey. Results: The WCBA’s average age was 29 ± 5.6 years old with extremes of.15 and 46 years. The modern contraceptive prevalence was 14.74%. Among WCBA, 57.14% had an average level of.knowledge. The media were the main source of.inf.rmation (75.84%). Among them 34.39% never discussed the matter with their spouse;the latter were not in f.vor of.contraception. The educational level, the perception of.woman, the spouse’s f.vorable opinion, the discussion with the spouse, the level of.knowledge of.MCM and the knowledge of.the existence of.f. service were signif.cantly associated with the use of.MCM with p = 0.0000 af.er multivariate analysis. Conclusion: The level of.MCM use still remains low. Any ef.ort to increase the modern contraceptive prevalence should take into account its associated f.ctors in order to optimize the use of.MCM in the municipality of.Parakou in 2017.

Introduction: Obstetric f.stula (Of. is a tragedy and a public health problem (physical, social, moral and psychological). Objective: To determine the clinical, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of.obstetric f.stula at CHUD/B-A maternity ward in 2016. Study Method: This is a descriptive, analytic study with prospective data collection f.om March 07 to December 31, 2016. Patients with obstetric f.stula were the study population. Results: A total of.37 patients were treated including 35 operated, the other two not operated f.r pyuria and bladder calculus af.er examination under spinal anesthesia. The average age was 36.6 ± 10.5 years with the extremes of.21 years and 65 years. The mean age of.onset of.Obstetric f.stula (Of. was 28.9 ± 6.5 years. Patients came f.om southern Benin (51.4%), were married (67.6%), peasant (35.1%) and out of.school (81.1%). The types of.Of.were vesico-vaginal f.stula (VVf. (62.2%), urethro-vaginal f.stula (24.3%), vesico-uterine f.stula (VUf. (5.4%), and uretero-vaginal f.stula (2.7%). The f.stula site was supra trigonal (54.1%), urethral (18.9%), trigonal (10.8%), vesico-uterine (10.8%), cervical urethral (2.7%), ureteroid vaginal (2.7%). f.stulas were complex (70.3%), complicated (24.3%) and simple (5.4%). The vaginal route was one of.the f.rst routes (64.9%). The operative techniques used were CHASSAR MOIR hysterorrhaphy (74.3%). The cure with continence was 68.6%. Conclusion: Of.is observed in young women of.childbearing age. VVf.is the most common. The management is surgical with several operating techniques. Healing is possible. Hence the importance of.paying special attention to these patients f.r their care.
