In the last decades,in some Mediterranean areas,pedodiversity decreased mainly due to pedotechnique application in large-scale farming that transformed original soils into *** the consideration that soils can be considered as living systems,the original concept of'soil genetic erosion'is ***,extrapolated and modeled from a Soil Information System in a study case representative of a Mediterranean landscape,predicted that most of the soil types would disappear in few years leading to a decrease of the soil diversity and originating soil genetic *** circumstance is intentionally here told in form of a story where the fairy tale characters are some roils facing extinction in the *** genetic erosion could result in a negative impact on the environment because it reduces the soil's security through a drastic reduction of the soil ecosystem services with a decrease of the immaterial benefit for the *** conviction that soils,as well as animals and plants,are living bodies,and pedodiversity is equally important as biodiversity in maintaining sustainability and ecosystem services,might truly attract the attention of the public ***,focussing more on the soil economic dimension and strengthening the assignation of'economic value'to the soil ecosystem services,also politicians and administrators could increase their interest in soil security.

There have been tremendous advances in both the diagnosis and treatment of male factor infertility; however, the mechanisms responsible to recreate spermatogenesis outside of the testicular environment continue to elude andrologists. Having the ability to ＇grow＇ human sperm would be a tremendous advance in reproductive biology with multiple possible clinical applications, such as a treatment option for men with testicular failure and azoospermia of multiple etiologies. To understand the complexities of human spermatogenesis in a research environment, model systems have been designed with the intent to replicate the testicular microenvironment. Currently, there are both in vivoand in vitro model systems. In vivo model systems involve the transplantation of either spermatogonial stem cells or testicular xenographs. In vitro model systems involve the use of pluripotent stem cells and complex coculturing and/or three-dimensional culturing techniques. This review discusses the basic methodologies, possible clinical applications, benefits and limitations of each model system. Although these model systems have greatly improved our understanding of human spermatogenesis, we unfortunately have not been successful in demonstrating complete human spermatogenesis outside of the testicle.

This paper presents an automatic mesh generation procedure on a 2D domain based on a regular background grid. The idea is to devise a robust mesh generation scheme with equal emphasis on quality and efficiency. Instead of using a traditional regular rectangular grid, a mesh of equilateral triangles is employed to ensure triangular element of the best quality will be preserved in the interior of the domain. As for the boundary, it is to be generated by a node/segment insertion process. Nodes are inserted into the background mesh one by one following the sequence of the domain boundary. The local structure of the mesh is modified based on the Delaunay criterion with the introduction of each node. Those boundary segments, which are not produced in the phase of node insertion, will be recovered through a systematic element swap process. Two theorems will be presented and proved to set up the theoretical basic of the boundary recovery part. Examples will be presented to demonstrate the robustness and the quality of the mesh generated by the proposed technique.

Resource-dependent cities(RCs)are a vulnerable group of urban settlements that often face population shrinkage;however,population changes in RCs in China are not well *** study offers new insight into this matter through a robust analysis that features a longer time scale,a larger sample of RCs,and a finer unit of *** finds new evidence that problems of population shrinkage in RCs are more serious than previous literature has *** 30%of the studied units have experienced either long-term or short-term population shrinkage,and many more are experiencing a slowing down of population *** are especially common among three types of RCs:the resource-depleted RCs,the forestry-based RCs,and RCs in Northeast *** results underscore transition policy inadequacies in addressing population loss,and call for a more comprehensive and diversified population policy that tackles the multifaceted factors that contribute to population shrinkage,including lack of industrial support,maladjustment to market oriented reformation,poor urban environment and natural population decline.

Multi-factor Duplicate Question Detection in Stack Overflow

Stack Overflow is a popular on-line question and answer site for software developers to share their experience and expertise. Among the numerous questions posted in Stack Overflow, two or more of them may express the same point and thus are duplicates of one another. Duplicate questions make Stack Overflow site maintenance harder, waste resources that could have been used to answer other questions, and cause developers to unnecessarily wait for answers that are already available. To reduce the problem of duplicate questions, Stack Overflow allows questions to be manually marked as duplicates of others. Since there are thousands of questions submitted to Stack Overflow every day, manually identifying duplicate questions is a difficult work. Thus, there is a need for an automated approach that can help in detecting these duplicate questions. To address the above-mentioned need, in this paper, we propose an automated approach named DuPPREDICTOR that takes a new question as input and detects potential duplicates of this question by considering multiple factors. DuPPREDICTOR extracts the title and description of a question and also tags that are attached to the question. These pieces of information （title, description, and a few tags） are mandatory information that a user needs to input when posting a question. DuPPREDICTOR then computes the latent topics of each question by using a topic model. Next, for each pair of questions, it computes four similarity scores by comparing their titles, descriptions, latent topics, and tags. These four similarity scores are finally combined together to result in a new similarity score that comprehensively considers the multiple factors. To examine the benefit of DuPPREDICTOR, we perform an experiment on a Stack Overflow dataset which contains a total of more than two million questions. Remittances for Disaster Risk Management: Perspectives from Pacific Island Migrants Living in New Zealand

In many low-income countries, migrant remittances are essential in sustaining people's livelihoods and become even more important during and after ***, policymakers, and practitioners increasingly emphasize the need to better support this people-based mechanism, so disaster risk can be reduced. This suggests the importance of understanding migrants' perspectives on the remittance channels used and the challenges and opportunities of supporting remittances. However, such information is largely missing. Drawing on interviews and a focus group discussion carried out with Pacific Island migrants living in New Zealand, the article identifies the capacity of migrants to utilize different remittance channels and resources to assist those affected in their country of origin. Challenges faced include high transfer fees, lack of information and support from external stakeholders, and limited resources to effectively send both individual and collective remittances. The article concludes that there is a serious need to involve a large array of stakeholders in finding ways to better support remittances for disaster risk management, including migrants, government agencies, the private sector, nongovernmental organizations, and those receiving remittances.
