In this work,active and edible films for food packaging were obtained by intensive mixing and compression molding of the wheat gluten(WG)glycerol-plasticized *** essential oil(TEO,10 and 15 wt.%)was incorporated as the active component microencapsulated inβ-cyclodextrins(β-CD)and included directly into the biopolymer matrix for *** was found that films incorporating microencapsulated TEO are more soluble in water(total soluble matter(dry method)of about 33%and 36.6%vs.22.4%and 18.6%,for films containing 10%and 15%TEO,respectively)but less rigid than those obtained with free oil(elastic tensile moduli of 6.9 and 3.1 vs.9.9 and 6.8 MPa,for films containing 10%and 15%TEO,respectively),although the water vapor permeability of the former is lower(4.9510−9 and 6.2910−9 vs.8.8510−9 and 11.1310−9 g/Pa*s*m,for films containing 10%and 15%TEO,respectively).Active films containing both free and encapsulated TEO inhibited gram(+)as well as gram(−)bacteria and exhibited enlarged antioxidant properties,with the latter presenting slightly better *** addition,encapsulation slowed the release rate of TEO from the films,allowing the bioactive to remain active in the film for much ***,the present work revealed that films prepared from TEO/β-CD microcapsules included in compression-molded wheat gluten matrices showed great potential to be used as an active food packaging.

Dear Editor, Arsenic (As) is a harmful metalloid that occurs in soil and water;its concentration varies considerably among geographic regions, with groundwater being the principal source of human contamination (Smedley and Kinniburgh, 2002). Besides the direct contamination effect of drinking water that contains high As concentration, human poisoning may also occur after ingestion of contaminated food.

In this paper we study a bilinear optimal control problem for a diffusive Lotka-Volterra competition model with chemo-repulsion in a bounded domain of ℝ^(ℕ),N=2,*** model describes the competition of two species in which one of them avoid encounters with rivals through a chemo-repulsion *** prove the existence and uniqueness of weak-strong solutions,and then we analyze the existence of a global optimal solution for a related bilinear optimal control problem,where the control is acting on the chemical ***,we derive first-order optimality conditions for local optimal solutions using the Lagrange multipliers ***,we propose a discrete approximation scheme of the optimality system based on the gradient method,which is validated with some computational experiments.

The ionic liquid(IL) tributylmethylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide([N4441][NTf2]) was used as neat lubricant and as an additive(1.5 wt%) in a polar oil to study its friction and wear reducing *** tests were completed for 90 minutes at room temperature and 100 °C in a reciprocating configuration at loads of 30 and 70 N,10 Hz-frequency,and 4 mm stroke *** volume was measured by confocal microscopy and the surface-IL interaction determined by *** main findings were that neat IL showed the best tribological behavior;the IL-containing mixture behaved similar to the base oil regarding friction,however outperformed the antiwear behavior of the base oil under higher temperature;surface-IL chemical interaction was found mainly at 100 °C.

Arylamine N-acetyltransferase(NAT; E.C. 2.***.1.5) enzymes are responsible for the biotransformation of several arylamine and hydrazine drugs by acetylation. In this process, the acetyl group transferred to the acceptor substrate produces NAT deacetylation and, in consequence, it is susceptible of degradation. Sirtuins are protein deacetylases, dependent on nicotine adenine dinucleotide,which perform post-translational modifications on cytosolic proteins. To explore possible sirtuin participation in the enzymatic activity of arylamine NATs, the expression levels of NAT1, NAT2,SIRT1 and SIRT6 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC) from healthy subjects were examined by flow cytometry and Western blot. The in situ activity of the sirtuins on NAT enzymatic activity was analyzed by HPLC, in the presence or absence of an agonist(resveratrol) and inhibitor(nicotinamide) of sirtuins. We detected a higher percentage of positive cells for NAT2 in comparison with NAT1, and higher numbers of SIRT1t cells compared to SIRT6 in lymphocytes. In situ NAT2 activity in the presence of NAM inhibitors was higher than in the presence of its substrate, but not in the presence ofresveratrol. In contrast, the activity of NAT1 was not affected by sirtuins. These results showed that NAT2 activity might be modified by sirtuins.

Effect of retained austenite and nonmetallic inclusions on the thermal/electrical properties and resistance spot welding nuggets of Si-containing TRIP steels

five advanced high-strength transformation-induced plasticity(TRIP) steels with different chemical compositions were studied to correlate the retained austenite and nonmetallic inclusion content with their physical properties and the characteristics of the resistance spot welding nuggets. Electrical and thermal properties and equilibrium phases of TRIP steels were predicted using the JMatPro? software. Retained austenite and nonmetallic inclusions were quantified by X-ray diffraction and saturation magnetization techniques. The nonmetallic inclusions were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the contents of Si, C, Al, and Mn in TRIP steels increase both the retained austenite and the nonmetallic inclusion contents. We found that nonmetallic inclusions affect the thermal and electrical properties of the TRIP steels and that the differences between these properties tend to result in different cooling rates during the welding process. The results are discussed in terms of the electrical and thermal properties determined from the chemical composition and their impact on the resistance spot welding nuggets.

One of the most important issues to resolve in parts manufactured from rapid manufacturing (RM) technologies is to know their behavior working under real conditions. Total quality manufacturing (TQM) is only possible if mechanical properties are well known in the design stage depending on the processing parameters. This work is mainly focused on testing of several samples made with different selective laser sintering (SLS) parameters and technologies. This procedure is the starting point to establish a basis for designing for RM and the standardization of RM testing. The experiments and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) analyzed the effects of several factors on mechanical properties. The SLS technologies were 3DSystem and EOS. The results show which factor has a large effect on the variables and the interaction between them. The conclusions are very useful for developing rules for designing (designing for RM) and creating new standard rules (ISO, AISI, and DIN) for RM materials and parts testing. The ANOVA gives a better knowledge of the effects of these factors and eliminates unimportant parameters.

Current treatments for diabetic retinopathy （DR） are based on laser photocoagulation and intravitreal injections of corti- costeroids or anti-vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGf） agents. These treatments are applicable only at advanced stages of the disease. In addition, they are expensive, require a vitreo- retinal specialist and are associated with significant adverse ef- fects. Therefore, new pharmacological treatments for the early stages of the disease are needed.
