Synthetic cathinones are new psychoactive substances that represent a health risk *** most of the 130 reported compounds,information about toxicology and/or metabolism is not available,which hampers their detection(and subsequent medical treatment)in intoxication *** principles of forensic analytical chemistry and the use of powerful analytical techniques are indispensable for stab-lishing the most appropriate biomarkers for these *** metabolic fate of synthetic cathinones can be assessed by the analysis of urine and blood obtained from authentic consumers;however,this type of samples is limited and difficult to *** this work,the metabolic behaviour of three synthetic cathinones(4-CEC,4-CPrC and 5-PPDi)and one amphetamine(3-fEA)has been evalu-ated by incubation with pooled human hepatocytes and metabolite identification has been performed by high-resolution mass *** in vitro approach has previously shown its feasibility for obtaining excretory human metabolites.4-CEC and 3-fEA were not metabolised,and for 4-CPrC only two minor metabolites were *** the contrary,for the recently reported 5-PPDi,twelve phase I metabolites were *** to our knowledge,this is the first metabolic study of an *** reported in this paper will allow the detection of these synthetic stimulants in intoxi-cation cases,and will facilitate future research on the metabolic behaviour of other indanyl-based cathinones.

The Development of the Renewable Energy Technologies in Spain

This article examines the development of the four main renewable energy technologies (RET) in Spain in the latest years: biomass, small hydro (SH), solar photovoltaic (solar PV) and wind. It has been studied the variation of the work-ing time per MW installed available from the on line data base of Spanish National Commission on Energy (SNCE), in the national context and in each of the Autonomic Communities (AACC). We have also obtained the marginal cost curve of the global RE. The main conclusions of the study are that Spain is effective meeting the RE generation target but not efficient in costs and in short term it is not any RETs that can achieve competitive price comparing to the elec-trical market.

The involvement of the excitatory amino acids glutamate and aspartate in ce rebral ischemia and excitotoxicity is ***,the role of non-excitatory amino acids in brain damage following a stroke or brain trauma remains largely *** release of amino acids by necrotic cells in the ischemic core may contribute to the expansion of the *** findings indicated that the reversible loss of field excitato ry postsynaptic potentials caused by transient hypoxia became irreversible when exposed to a mixture of just four non-excitatory amino acids(L-alanine,glycine,L-glutamine,and L-serine)at their plasma *** amino acids induce swelling in the somas of neurons and astrocytes during hypoxia,along with permanent dendritic damage mediated by N-methyl-D-aspartate *** N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors prevented neuronal damage in the presence of these amino acids during *** is likely that astroglial swelling caused by the accumulation of these amino acids via the alanine-serine-cysteine transporter 2 exchanger and system N transporters activates volume-regulated anion channels,leading to the release of excitotoxins and subsequent neuronal damage through N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor ***,previously unrecognized mechanisms involving non-excitatory amino acids may contribute to the progression and expansion of brain injury in neurological emergencies such as stroke and traumatic brain *** these pathways co uld highlight new therapeutic targets to mitigate brain injury.

Recent reports suggest that aging is not solely a physiological process in living beings;instead, it should be considered a pathological process or disease(Amorim et al., 2022). Consequently, this process involves a wide range of factors, spanning from genetic to environmental factors, and even includes the gut microbiome(GM)(Mayer et al., 2022). All these processes coincide at some point in the inflammatory process, oxidative stress, and apoptosis, at different degrees in various organs and systems that constitute a living organism(Mayer et al., 2022;Aguilarhernández et al., 2023).

Internal dispersal of seed-inhabiting insects by vertebrate frugivores:a review and prospects

Design of multilayer hybrid sol-gel coatings with bifunctional barrier-bioactive response on the Elektron 21 magnesium alloy for biomedical applications

The present study aims to develop multilayer barrier-bioactive hybrid sol-gel coatings from a mixture of the silane precursors tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS)and glycidoxypropyltriethoxysilane(GPTMS)deposited on the Elektron 21 magnesium *** purpose of the inner layer(barrier coating)was to provide corrosion protection to the magnesium alloy,whereas the outer layer(bioactive coating)was doped with different Ca and Mg contents to produce a bioactive *** coatings were characterised using scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and their corrosion behaviour was evaluated by anodic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy after immersion in simulated body fluid(SBf)at 37±0.5°*** experimental results showed that the multilayer coatings increased the corrosion resistance of the alloy up to three orders of magnitude during immersion in SBf *** the other hand,the presence of Ca and Mg in the bioactive coating promoted the growth of apatite-like ***,an increment of salt content favoured the formation of porous coatings,which allowed the access of the electrolyte to the substrate leading to their rapid *** the latter,this research endorses the premise that the TEOS-GPTMS hybrid system represents a promising alternative to produce bifunctional barrier-bioactive coatings.
