Northern fulmars(fulmarus glacialis)are a pelagic seabird species distributed at northern and polar *** are often used as an indicator of plastic pollution in the North Sea region,but data are lacking from higher latitudes,especially when it comes to ***,we investigated amounts of ingested plastic and their characteristics in fulmar chicks from the faroe *** particles(≥1 mm)in chicks of two age classes were searched using a digestion method with *** addition,to evaluate if additive tissue burden reflects plastic ingestion,we measured liver tissue concentrations of two pollutant classes associated with plastic materials:polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs)and several dechloranes,using gas chromatography with high-resolution mass *** most common shape was hard fragment(81%)and the most common polymer was polyethylene(73%).Plastic contamination did not differ between either age class,and we found no correlation between neither the amount and mass of plastic particles and the concentration of *** comparison with previous studies on adult fulmars,we do not recommend using chicks for biomonitoring adults because chicks seem to ingest more plastics than adults.

HIV integration occurs in chromatin sites that favor the release of high levels of viral progeny;alternatively, the virus is alsoable to discreetly coexist with the host. The viral infection perturbs the cellular environment inducing the remodelling of thenuclear landscape. Indeed, HIV-1 triggers the nuclear clustering of the host factor CPSf6, but the underlying mechanism ispoorly understood. Our data indicate that HIV usurps a recently discovered biological phenomenon, called liquid–liquid phaseseparation, to hĳack the host cell. We observed CPSf6 clusters as part of HIV-induced membraneless organelles (HIV-1 MLOs) inmacrophages, one of the main HIV target cell types. We describe that HIV-1 MLOs follow phase-separation rules and representfunctional biomolecular condensates. We highlight HIV-1 MLOs as hubs of nuclear reverse transcription, while the double-strandedviral DNA, once formed, rapidly migrates outside these structures. Transcription-competent proviruses localize outside but nearHIV-1 MLOs in LEDGf-abundant regions, known to be active chromatin sites. Therefore, HIV-1 MLOs orchestrate viral events priorto the integration step and create a favorable environment for the viral replication. This study uncovers single functional host–viralcomplexes in their nuclear landscape, which is markedly restructured by HIV-1.

Many premature babies, especially those with a low birth weight are given multiple transfusions during their first few weeks of life. The major serious complications of prematurity include bronchopulmonary dysplasia, with lesser incidences of retinopathy of prematurity, intraventricular haemorrhage, and necrotising enterocolitis. Many studies have shown correlations between the receipt of blood transfusions and the development of these conditions, but little is known of the underlying pathophysiology of this relationship. Recent studies are beginning to provide some answers. This review examines recent findings with regard to the influence of preparation and storage of paediatric packed red blood cell units on heme, iron, and oxidative status of the units and relates these to the ability of the premature baby to deal with these changes following the receipt of blood transfusions. Paediatric packed red blood cell units are a potential source of heme, redox active iron and free radicals, and this increases with storage age. Haemolysis of transfused red blood cells may add further iron and cell free haemoglobin to the recipient baby. Premature babies, particularly those with low birth weight and gestational age appear to have littlereserve to cope with any additional iron, heme and/or oxidative load. The consequences of these events are discussed with regard to their contribution to the major complications of prematurity and a novel hypothesis regarding transfusion-related morbidity in premature babies is presented. The review concludes with a discussion of potential means of limiting transfusion related iron/heme and oxidative load through the preparation and storage of packed red blood cell units and through modifications in clinical practice.

We studied a pure coordination game in which swimmers had to agree on the distance that they would swim underwater up a line after diving into a swimming pool. The swimmers were not able to communicate with each other. To win the game, the swimmer had to surface at exactly the same point as his partner. This pure coordination game was played by 81 swimmers, 43 of whom then put their decisions into practice in a 25-metre pool. The results revealed the presence of two Schelling points. One point (at 12.5 metres) was that predicted by theory and corresponded to half the maximum possible distance. The other Schelling point (at 25 metres) was practical in nature and reflected a taste for underwater swimming—-even though performance (in terms of the distance swum underwater) was not relevant in this game. The results show that swimmers underestimate their water competence when they are not subjected to a competitive challenge.

Introduction: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) belongs to the very heterogeneous group of cardiomyopathies. This study aimed to study myocardial perfusion abnormalities on scintigraphy and assess the risk of sudden death from ventricular arrhythmia in hereditary sarcomeric HCM. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective and prospective descriptive study over 18 months (January 01, 2021, to July 31, 2022) on the records of patients over 18 with the diagnosis of hypertrophic sarcomeric cardiomyopathy with or without ventricular rhythm disorders and who have undergone myocardial scintigraphy. Results: Three patients were included. The average age of our patients was 66 years old. Dyspnea is the primary symptomatology found in our patients. One patient presented with syncope and unsustained ventricular tachycardia. His risk score for sudden death from ESC at five years is estimated at 6.45%, and the patient received an ICD in primary prevention. The average sudden death risk score of our patients was 3.78%. The mean LV wall thickness was 20 mm. The mean maximum left intraventricular gradient was 39 mmHg. Myocardial fibrosis was present in all our patients. Myocardial scintigraphy was normal in all cases. Conclusion: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a very heterogeneous group of cardiomyopathies. The rhythmic risk is multifactorial and constitutes a significant prognostic factor.

This paper gives all the two-dimensional membrane models obtained from formal asymptotic analysis of the three-dimensional geometrically exact nonlinear model of a thin elastic shell made with a Saint Venant-Kirchhoff material. Therefore, the other models can be quoted as flexural nonlinear ones. The author also gives the formal equations solved by the associated stress tensor and points out that only one of those models leads, by linearization, to the "classical" linear limiting membrane model, whose justification has already been established by a convergence theorem.
