Myocarditis is a disease process that every emergency physician fears *** severity can be mild to life-threatening,and many cases are likely undetected because they are subclinical with nonspecifi c signs.[1]Subtle cardiac signs may be overshadowed by systemic symptoms of the underlying infectious ***,myalgias,lethargy,symptoms commonly associated with viral syndrome,can mask the life-threatening myocarditis that may be *** fact,in the United States Myocarditis Treatment Trial,almost 90%of patients reported symptoms consistent with a viral prodrome.[2]Ammirati et al[3]reported that 27%of patients with myocarditis had either reduced left ventricular ejection fraction,ventricular arrhythmias,or low cardiac ***,we present a case report,in which handheld point-of-care ultrasound was utilized at the bedside to aid in the critical diagnosis of *** the additional information provided through this imaging modality,this patient was able to be transferred to the appropriate tertiary care facility in an expeditious manner and receive possible defi nitive treatment.

Due to a complex geological and biotic history,the Isthmus of Tehuantepec(IT),has been long recognized as a driver for the evolutionary divergence of numerous lowland and highland *** distributed in the lowlands of the American continent,the White-Tipped Dove(Leptotila verreauxi)is a polytypic species with 13 recognized *** of these have been recorded in Mexico,and the distribution of three abuts at the IT,suggesting a contact *** estim.te phylogenetic patterns,divergence tim.s and genetic differentiation,we examined two mt DNA(ND2 and COI)and one n DNA(β-fibint 7)*** also used correlative ecological niche models(ENM)to assess whether ecological differences across the IT may have acted as a biogeographical *** estim.ted paleodistributions during the Middle Holocene,Last Glacial Maximum and Last Interglacial,to evaluate the influence of climate changes on the distribution and demographic *** results showed genetically distinct lineages that diverged approximately 2.5 million years *** and ecological factors may have played a dual role in promoting differentiation,but also in the formation of a secondary contact zone in the southern *** ecological niche comparisons indicated that the ecological niche of sympatric lineages at the IT are not identical,suggesting niches divergence;in addition,environmental niche models across the region indicated no abrupt biogeographic barriers,but the presence of regions with low *** results suggest that genetic differentiation originated by a vicariant event probably related to environmental factors,favored the evolution of different ecological ***,the absence of a biogeographic barrier but the presence of less suitable areas in the contact regions,suggest that secondary contact zones may be also maintained by climatic factors for the eastern group,but also by biotic interactions for the western group.

Mountains are paramount for exploring biodiversity patterns due to the mosaic of topographies and climates encompassed over short *** research has traditionally focused on taxonomic diversity when investigating changes along elevational gradients,but other facets should be *** first tim.,we simultaneously assessed elevational trends in taxonomic,functional,and phylogenetic diversity of woody plants in Andean tropical montane forests and explored their underlying ecological and evolutionary *** investigation covered four transects(traversing ca.2200 m a.s.l.) encompassing 114 plots of 0.1 ha across a broad latitudinal range(ca.10°).Using Hill numbers to quantify abundance-based diversity among 37,869 individuals we observed a consistent decrease in taxonomic,functional,and phylogenetic diversity as elevation increased,although the decrease was less pronounced for higher Hill *** exception was a slight increase in phylogenetic diversity when dominant species were *** decrease in taxonomic and functional diversity might be attributed to an environmental filtering process towards highlands,where the increasingly harsher conditions exclude species and functional ***,the differences in steepness decrease between Hill orders suggest that rare species disproportionately contribute to functional *** phylogenetic diversity the shifting elevational trend between Hill orders indicates a greater than previously considered influence in central Andean highlands of tropical lowlands originated species with strong niche conservatism relative to distantly related temperate *** could be explained by a decreasing presence and abundance of temperate,extratropical taxa towards the central Andes relative to northern or southern Andes,where they are more prevalent.

The objective of this study was to establish a baseline for future studies that aim to determine possible contamination from human, agricultural and industrial activities. As well as the determination of the indices of environmental or geological contamination and enrichment factors of heavy metals Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Hg and Pb in agricultural soils of Constanza, Jarabacoa, Rancho Arriba and San José de Ocoa (SJO), municipalities located in the valleys of the Central mountain range of the Dominican Republic. The determination of the concentrations of heavy metals was carried out using the X-ray fluorescence technique. Just like in Azua, San Juan de la Maguana (SJM) y Barahona in the southwest. Producer municipalities of vegetables, rice, beans, corn, melon, watermelon, tomato, banana, avocado, sugar cane and fodder for cattle. The concentration of 160 mg·kg-1 Probable Effect Level (PEL) of Cr according to the SQuiRTs table (USEPA-NOAA) for agricultural soils, were exceeded in 50% of the samples in SJM, SJO, Jarabacoa and Constanza;in Barahona and Azua by 20%. The PEL of 42.8 mg·kg-1 of the Ni was higher in more than 50% of the samples from SJM, Azua, Barahona and Jarabacoa;in SJO and Constanza at 35%. In the case of Cu with a PEL of 108 mg·kg-1 in SJO and Constanza, 5% of the samples exceeded its, in the other areas the concentrations were lower. Zn, As and Pb did not manage to exceed their respective PEL.

Bioactive thermal spray coatings produced via high-velocity oxygen fuel spray(HVOf)from hydroxyapatite(HAp)and bioactive glasses(BG)have the potential to be employed on temporary implants due to the ability of both HAp and BG to dissolve and promote osseointegration,considering that both phases have different reaction and dissolution rates under in-vitro *** the present work,75%***-25%wt.S53P4 bioactive glass powders were HVOf-sprayed to obtain HAp/S53P4 BG composite coatings on a bioresorbable AZ31 *** study is focused on exploring the effect of the stand-off distance and fuel/oxygen ratio variation as HVOf parameters to obtain stable structural coatings and to establish their effect on the phases and microstructure produced in those *** characterization techniques,such as scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,were employed to characterize relevant structural and microstructural properties of the composite *** results showed that thermal gradients during coating deposition must be managed to avoid delamination due to the high temperature achieved(max 550℃)and the differences in coefficients of thermal *** was also found that both spraying distance and oxygen/fuel ratio allowed to keep the hydroxyapatite as the main phase in the *** addition,in-vitro electrochemical studies were performed on the obtained HAp/S53P4 BG composite coatings and compared against the uncoated AZ31 *** results showed a significant decrease in hydrogen evolution(at least 98%)when the bioactive coating was applied on the Mg alloy during evaluation in simulated body fluid(SBf).

Neutrophils, crucial players in the effector phase of the immune response, are recognized as important mediators of both innate and adaptive immune responses. Through the production of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines, they modulate the function of T and other lymphoid cells. Countless reports have highlighted the importance of these cells as efficient antim.crobial agents and annotated their involvement in the pathology of infectious and noninfectious diseases. The development of modern, sophisticated technologies has allowed the study of the functions of these cells in clinical settings. These advanced technologies include fluorescence-activated cell sorters, confocal microscopy, automated cell image analyzers, and live cell analysis instruments. Unfortunately, the cost of these modern instruments, maintenance, reagents, and the need for qualified technicians prohibit their use in low-income laboratories and universities in developing countries. With this in mind, we propose a series of basic tests that can be used in low-input clinical laboratories and universities to evaluate the function of neutrophils in health and disease. Our methodology allows us to assess in a practical and low-cost manner the functions of neutrophils in the phagocytic process, including opsonization, ingestion, ROI production (NBT reduction), myeloperoxidase content, phagosome-lysosome fusion, microbicidal activity, and NET production. Introduction:Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)may be associated with various skin *** them,figurate erythema(fE)is rare;only a few clinical reports have been ***,we reported an unusual concentric fE lesions and their immunohistochemical profile in a patient with *** presentation:A 52-year-old woman was diagnosed with *** month later,she developed asymptomatic annular erythematous concentric ring lesions on her inner right *** margin of every ring increased in coloration,and the lesions then completely resolved in 2 weeks.A biopsy revealed vasculitis of small vessels,an increase in the fluorescence intensity of CD3 and CD45,and negativity for COVID-19 ***:The results showed an unusual fE that has a clinical mixed type between erythema annulare centrifugum and erythema gyratum repens;the physiopathological mechanism in the fE due to COVID-19 is unknown;one theory involves rapid viral passage into the cutaneous vascular system that triggers an immune and inflammatory *** the results exhibited a negative COVID-19 RNA in the tissue,the CD3^(+)/CD45^(+)lymphocyte infiltration could explain the clinical pattern as a direct inflammatory response in the small vessel or as a delayed immune ***:Our findings suggest an immunohistochemical small vessel vasculitis pattern with an unusual clinical fE that differs from other types of COVID-19-associated fE or erythema reported previously.
