Oceans and seas form a large body of water that contains a natural *** humans,represents a resource,which makes this a point of interest,from researches to improve the *** produce many compounds and secondary metabolites that can be used in different fi elds of industry such as food,agricultural,pharmaceutical and *** though seaweeds are ancestral resources,recently it was notorious a global interest in knowing more about its potentials,where biotechnology plays an important role in *** showed that seaweed has many bioactive compounds benefi cial to plant development,giving them a great potential as an agricultural *** seaweeds to the soil provides organic matter,minerals,trace elements,growth plant regulator,metabolites,vitamins,and amino acids and it can work as a soil *** Portugal,the use of seaweeds for agriculture is important since long time *** the past,populations that lived near coastal zone depended on the seaweeds as a family subsistence but,throughout the years,synthetic fertilizers replaced *** work aimed to assess the potential of the extracts obtained from Ascophyllum nodosum and from Sargassum muticum as an agricultural *** evaluation was carried out with rice plants(Oryza sativa)and lettuce(Lactuca sativa),in germination bioassays,the culture of rice and lettuce plants in pots,and culture of lettuce plants in *** that,seaweed liquid extracts were used in different concentrations in different *** show that extracts obtained from two seaweeds,*** and ***,can be promissory plant biofertilizer at a concentration of 25% and had a positive effect on seed germination,plant development,and production.

fretting fatigue is a type of failure that may affect various mechanical components,such as bolted or dovetail joints,press-fitted shafts,couplings,and *** to its importance,many researchers have carried out experimental tests and analytical and numerical modelling,so that the phenomena that govern the failure process can be understood or appropriately ***,the performance of systems subjected to fretting fatigue can be predicted and *** paper discusses different aspects related to the finite element modelling of fretting *** presents common experimental configurations and the analytical solutions for cylindrical ***,it discusses aspects of fretting fatigue crack initiation,such as crack location,orientation,and length,as well as stress averaging ***,it deals with the propagation stage;crack face interaction,orientation criteria,and crack growth rate are ***,additional aspects of recent research on fretting fatigue are reviewed:out-of-phase loading,cohesive zone modelling,wear effects,heterogeneity,and crystal *** fatigue is a phenomenon not well understood,and much more research is needed so that its understanding is increased and proper criteria and laws may be available for different cases.

The synthesis and properties of carbon xerogels are briefly described in this mini-review, emphasizing the methods used for tuning their surface chemistry and textural properties in order to design efficient electrocatalysts for fuel cells. In particular, the role played by the surface functional groups in determining the loading, dispersion, oxidation state and stability of the metal phases is addressed.

Algae(and their extracts)are increasingly important for pharmaceutical applications due to the diversity of useful compounds they *** genus fucus contains one of the most studied species,fucus *** species *** differs from the others of the genus by presenting longitudinal air-vesicles and a capacity to survive at low *** is an alga that inhabits the Mondego River estuary(Portugal),at the southern limit of its distribution,and can serve as a role model to understand the effect of a salt gradient on the production of bioactive *** assessed the phenolic content and antioxidant activity of different *** extracts(***,aqueous and polysaccharide)prepared from samples harvested from two different zones to evaluate if the adaptation of *** to different salinity levels influenced its chemical *** antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined using 1,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and 2.2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS)*** assays demonstrated that the methanolic extract of lyophilized *** that grew at low salinities was the most bioactive,***(IC 50=50.39μg/mL)and ABTS(TEAC=2.42).The total phenolic content(folin-Ciocalteu method)and the methanolic extract of the lyophilized *** collected from a low salinity habitat exhibited the highest phenolic content(PGE=49.48μg/mg of lyophilized extract)amongst those *** layer chromatography(TLC)and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(fTIR)were used for the identification of compounds in the *** characterization allowed confirmation that the various extracts contained almost the same compounds but with notable quantitative *** on these results,we conclude that there were differences in the quantity of the compounds due to the effect of *** drying methods used were also found to have influenced the quality of the extracted compounds.

The genetic bases and molecular mechanisms involved in the assembly and function of the flagellum components as well as in the regulation of the flagellar movement are not fully understood, especially in humans. There are several causes for sperm immotility, of which some can be avoided and corrected, whereas other are related to genetic defects and deserve full investigation to give a diagnosis to patients. This review was performed after an extensive literature search on the online databases PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science. Here, we review the involvement of regulatory pathways responsible for sperm motility, indicating possible causes for sperm immotility. These included the calcium pathway, the cAMP-dependent protein kinase pathway, the importance of kinases and phosphatases, the function of reactive oxygen species, and how the regulation of cell volume and osmolarity are also fundamental components. We then discuss main gene defects associated with specific morphological abnormalities. finally, we slightly discuss some preventive and treatments approaches to avoid development of conditions that are associated with unspecified sperm immotility. We believe that in the near future, with the development of more powerful techniques, the genetic causes of sperm immotility and the regulatory mechanisms of sperm motility will be better understand, thus enabling to perform a full diagnosis and uncover new therapies.

Iron toxicity resistance strategies in tropical grasses:The role of apoplastic radicular barriers

The revegetation of mined areas poses a great challenge to the iron ore mining *** initial recovery process in degraded areas might rely on the use of fe-resistant *** grasses, such as Paspalum densum and Echinochloa crus-galli, show different resistance strategies to iron toxicity; however, these mechanisms are poorly *** fe-resistance mechanisms and direct iron toxicity as a function of root apex removal were investigated. To achieve this purpose, both grass species were grown for up to 480 hr in a nutrient solution containing 0.019 or 7 mmol/L fe-EDTA after the root apices had been removed or maintained. Cultivation in the presence of excess iron-induced leaf bronzing and the formation of iron plaque on the root surfaces of both grass species, but was more significant on those plants whose root apex had been removed. Iron accumulation was higher in the roots, but reached phytotoxic levels in the aerial parts as well. It did not hinder the biosynthesis of chloroplastidic pigments. No significant changes in gas exchange and chlorophyll a fluorescence occurred in either grass when their roots were kept intact; the contrary was true for plants with excised root apices. In both studied grasses, the root apoplastic barriers had an important function in the restriction of iron translocation from the root to the aerial plant parts, especially in E. crus-galli. Root apex removal negatively influenced the iron toxicity resistance mechanisms(tolerance in P. densum and avoidance in E. crus-galli).

Cooperative Localization and Tracking in Distributed Robot-Sensor Networks

This paper addresses the problem of real-time position and orientation estimation of networked mobile robots in two-dimensional Euclidean space with simultaneous tracking of a rigid unknown object based on exteroceptive sensory information extracted from distributed vision systems. The sufficient and necessary conditions for team localization are proposed. A localization and object tracking approach based on statistical operators and graph searching algorithms is presented for a team of robots localized with het- erogeneous sensors. The approach was implemented in an experimental platform consisting of car-like mobile robots equipped with omnidirectional video cameras and IEEE 802.11b wireless networking. The experimental results validate the approach.

We investigated the effect of annealing time on the structure and optical properties of Sr WO4：Eu^3＋ powders prepared by the non-hydrolytic sol-gel method and heat treated at 800 ℃ for 2,4,8 and 16 *** and differential thermal analyses revealed that Sr WO4：Eu^3＋ powders were obtained at about 800 ℃.X-ray diffraction patterns and Rietveld refinement data confirmed that all powders had a scheelite-type tetragonal ***-Raman and fourier transform infrared spectra indicated structural order at short range and anti-symmetric stretching vibrations of O-W-O bonds associated with tetrahedral[WO4]*** properties were investigated by ultraviolet-visible（UV-vis）diffuse reflectance,and photoluminescence（PL）data which provided the evolution of quantum efficiency（η）and lifetime（τ）.UV-vis spectroscopy evidenced intermediate energy levels within the band gap of Sr WO4：Eu^3＋ *** properties validated that the Eu^3＋ electric-dipole（^5D0→^7f2）transition in PL emission spectra was dominant which proved that Eu^3＋ ions were positioned in a site without an inversion center.[（^5D0→^7f2）/（^5D0→^7f1）]band ratios showed that Eu^3＋ ions were located in a low symmetry *** PL emission,ηandτproved the dependence on the annealing time in the behavior of Sr WO4：Eu3＋powders with a higher relative emission PL intensity as well as higherηandτvalues related to other samples when heat treated at 800℃ for 8 h.

Objective:To investigate the isolation of enterobacteria associated with Macrobrachium amazonicum(***) farming and evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility of Vibrio ***:Strains were isolated from female *** prawns and environmental and hatchery *** assays were used to identify bacterial genera and those belonging to the genus Vibrio were submitted to further analyses for species identification,through Vitek 2 automated system and *** test was performed according to Clinical Laboratory Standards ***:The following genera of enlerobacteria were recovered:Enterobacter(n=11),Citrobacter(n=10),Proteus(n=2),Serratia(n=2),Kluyvera(n=2),Providencia(n=2),Cedecea(n=1),Escherichia(n=1).Edwardsiella(n=1) and BulliauxeUa(n=1).As for Vibrio,three species were identified:Vibrio cholerae non-O1/non-O139(n=4).Vibrio vulnificus(***)(n=1) and Vibrio mimicus(n=1).Vibrio *** minimum inhibitory concentrations values within the susceptibility range established by Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute for almost all antibiotics,except for ***,which presented intermediate profile to ***:Enterobacteria do not seem to be the most important pathogens associated with *** farming,whereas the recovery of Vibrio *** larviculture,with emphasis on Vibrio cholerae and ***,deserves special attention due to their role as potentially zoonotic aquaculture-associated ***,the intermediate susceptibility of *** to ampicillin reflects the importance of monitoring drug use in prawn farming.
