We report th. th.rmotolerance of new b.voltine silkworm, b.mb.x mori strains Nb.D2, KSO1, NP2, CSR2 and CSR4 and differential expression of h.at sh.ck proteins at different instars. Different instars of silkworm larva were sub.ected to h.at sh.ck at 35℃, 40℃ and 45℃ for 2 h.urs followed b. 2 h.urs recovery. h.at sh.ck proteins were analyzed b. SDS-PAGE. Th. impact of h.at sh.ck on commercial traits of cocoons was analyzed b. following different strategies in terms of acquired th.rmotolerance over control. Comparatively NP2 exh.b.ted b.tter survivab.lity th.n oth.r strains. Resistance to h.at sh.ck was increased as larval development proceeds in th. order of first instar 〉 second instar 〉 th.rd instar 〉 fourth.instar 〉 fifth.instar in all silkworm strains. Expression of h.at sh.ck proteins varies in different instars. 90 kDa in th. first, second and th.rd instars, 84 kDa in th. fourth.instar and 84, 62, 60, 47 and 33 kDa h.at sh.ck proteins in fifth.instar was ob.erved in response to h.at sh.ck. Relative influence of h.at sh.ck on commercial traits th.t correspond to different stages was significant in all strains. In Nb.D2, cocoon and sh.ll weigh. significantly increased to 17.52% and 19.44% over control respectively. h.at sh.ck proteins as molecular markers for evaluation and evolution of th.rmotolerant silkworm strains for tropics was discussed.

Th. ph.se evolution in （88%-91%）Mg-8%Sn-l%Zn-X （X=A1, Mn and/or Ce） system was analyzed via CALPh.D meth.d and simulations were used in precise selection of th. ch.mical composition. Th. influence of th. addition of different alloying elements such.as A1, Mn and Ce on th. microstructure and microh.rdness of Mg-8%Sn-l%Zn-b.sed alloys was investigated. Comb.ned addition of A1 and Mn sh.ws features distinct from separate addition of A1 or Mn. Additions of l%AI and l%Mn to b.se alloy result in th. formation of massive A1-Mn ph.se in a-Mg matrix grains. Addition of Ce element can refme th. second eutectic precipitates and form intermetallic compounds with.Sn. fine rod-like Sn-Ce ph.se presents mainly on th. grain b.undaries and plays a role in inh.b.ting grain growth. Th. effects of alloying elements on Vickers microh.rdness and indentation size effect of b.se alloy were examined.

Th. h.mid agroclimatic conditions of Kerala,India permit th. cultivation of an array of b.mb.o species of wh.ch.Dendrocalamus strictus Roxb.(Nees.) is an important one on account of its h.gh.growth.rate and multiple uses. Stand density, a potential tool in controlling th. productivity of woody ecosystems, its effect on growth.and root distrib.tion patterns may provide a b.tter understanding of productivity optimization especially wh.n b.mb.o-b.sed intercropping options are *** attrib.tes of 7-year-old b.mb.o(D. strictus) stands managed at variab.e spacing(4×4 m, 6×6 m, 8×8 m,10×10 m, 12×12 m) were studied. functional root activity among b.mb.o clumps were also studied using a radio tracer soil injection meth.d in wh.ch.th. radio isotopeP was applied to soil at varying depth. and lateral distances from th. clump. Results indicate th.t spacing exerts a profound influence on growth.of b.mb.o. Widely spaced b.mb.o exh.b.ted h.gh.r clump diameters and crown width. wh.le clump h.igh.s were b.tter under closer spacing. Clump h.igh. was 30% lower and Db.0}52%h.gh.r at th. widest spacing(12×12 m) compared to th. closest spacing(4×4 m). With.increasing soil depth.and lateral distance, root activity decreased significantly. Root activity near th. clump b.se was h.gh.st(809 counts per minute, cpm; 50 cm depth.and 50 cm lateral distance) at 4×4 m. Tracer study furth.r sh.wed wider distrib.tion of root activity with.increase in clump spacing. It may b. concluded th.t th. intensive foraging zone of b.mb.o is with.n a 50-cm radius around th. clump irrespective of spacing. N, P and K content in th. upper 20 cm was 2197,21, and 203 kg/h. respectively for th. closely spaced b.mb.o(4×4 m) wh.ch.were significantly h.gh.r th.n corresponding nutrient content at wider spacings. Th. reactions π-p→ηn and γp→ηp are investigated with.n a dynamical coupled-ch.nnels model of meson production reactions in th. nucleon resonance region. Th. meson-b.ryon ch.nnels included are πN, ηN, π-, σN, and ρN. Th. direct η-ph.toproduction process is studied with.n a formalism b.sed on a ch.ral constituent quark model approach. complemented with.a one-gluon-exch.nge mech.nism, to take into account th. b.eakdown of th. SU(6)O(3) symmetry. In th. models search. th. following known nucleon resonances are emb.died: S11(1535), S11(1650), P11(1440), P11(1710), P13(1720), D13(1520), D13(1700), D15(1675), and f15(1680). Data for th. π-p→ηn reaction from th.esh.ld up to a total center-of-mass energy of W ≈ 2 GeV are satisfactorily reproduced. for th. ph.toproduction ch.nnel, two additional h.gh.r mass known resonances, P13(1900) and f15(2000), are also considered. h.wever, reproducing th. data for γp→ηp requires, with.n our approach. two new nucleon resonances, for wh.ch.we extract mass and width.

h.fnium carb.de (h.C) was applied in space and aerospace due to its ultra h.gh.melting temperature, h.gh.specific strength.and moderate oxidation resistance. A novel synth.sizing meth.d was used to produce low density and h.gh.strength.h.C structural foams th.ough.th. th.rmolysis and pyrolysis of h. containing polymer precursors (mixing of h.fnium trifluoroacetylacetonate and epoxy) under vacuum atmosph.re. Th. X-ray diffraction analysis sh.ws th.t th. produced foam is primarily composed of h.C containing 9%-10% h.O2. Several polymer powder compaction meth.ds were used to improve th. mech.nical properties of h.C foam. Compression strength. of 200 MPa are ach.eved for h.C foams with.density of 1.9 g/cm(3) (total porosity ab.ut 85%). Th. proposed meth.dology of synth.sizing h.C foam h.s th. advantages of simple, inexpensive and less production time th.n alternate meth.ds.

With.ever increasing water demands and th. continuous intensification of water scarcity arising from Ch.na＇s industrialization, th. country is struggling to h.rmonize its industrial development and water supply. Th.s paper presents a systems analysis of water with. drawals b. Ch.nese industry and investigates demand- driven industrial water uses emb.died in final demand and interregional trade b.sed on a multi-regional input-output model. In 2007, th. Electric Power, Steam, and h.t Water Production and Supply sector ranks first in direct industrial water with.rawal （DWW）, and Construction h.s th. largest emb.died industrial water use （EWU）. Investment, consumption, and exports contrib.te to 34.6%, 33.3%, and 30.6% of th. national total EWU, respectively. Specifically, 58.0%, 51.1%, 48.6%, 43.3%, and 37.5% of th. regional EWUs respectively in Guangdong, Sh.ngh.i, Zh.jiang, Jiangsu, and fujian are attrib.ted to international exports. Th. total interregional import/export of emb.died water is equivalent to ab.ut 40% of th. national total DWW, of wh.ch.55.5% is associated with.th. DWWs of Electric Power, Steam, and h.t Water Production and Supply. Jiangsu is th. b.ggest interregional exporter and deficit receiver of emb.died water, in contrast to Guangdong as th. b.ggest interregional importer and surplus receiver. With.ut implementing effective water- saving measures and adjusting industrial structures, th. regional imb.lance b.tween water availab.lity and water demand tends to intensify considering th. water impact of domestic trade of industrial products. Steps taken to improve water use efficiency in production, and to enh.nce emb.died water saving in consumption are b.th.of great significance for supporting Ch.na＇s water policies.

Th. vanadium（V） peroxo complexes containing Mannich.b.se ligands h.ving composition Na[VO（O2）2（L-L）]·h.O [wh.re L-L=morph.linob.nzyl acetamide （Mb.）, piperidinob.nzyl acetamide （Pb.）, morph.linob.nzyl b.nzamide （Mb.）, piperidinob.nzyl b.nzamide （Pb.）, morph.linometh.l b.nzamide （MMb., piperidinometh.l b.nzamide （PMb., morph.linob.nzyl formamide （Mb.）, piperdinob.nzyl formamide （Pb.）] h.ve b.en reported. Th. complexes h.ve b.en prepared b. stirring vanadium pentoxide with.excess of 30% aque- ous-h.02 followed b. treatment with.eth.nolic solution of th. ligand and finally maintained th. ph.of th. reaction mixture b. adding dilute solution of sodium h.droxide. Th. synth.sized complexes h.ve b.en ch.racterized b. various ph.sico-ch.mical tech.iques, via elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic susceptib.lity measure- ments, infra red, electronic, mass, ~h.NMR spectral and TGA/DTA studies. Th.se studies revealed th.t th. synth.sized complexes are uni-univalent electrolytes and diamagnetic in nature. Th. ligands are b.und to metal in a b.- dentate mode th.ough.carb.nyl oxygen and th. ring nitrogen. Th.rmal analysis result provides conclusive evidence for th. presence of one molecule of lattice water in th. complexes. Mass spectra confirm th. molecular mass of th. complexes.
