Stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS)in optical fibers has long been used in frequency-selective optical signal processing,including in the realization of microwave-photonic(MWP)*** this work,we report a significant enhancement in the selectivity of SBS-based MWP *** having a single passband of 250 MHz–1 GHz bandwidth are demonstrated,with selectivity of up to 44 *** selectivity of the filters is better than that of the corresponding previous arrangements by about 15 *** shape factor of the filters,defined as the ratio between their−20 dB bandwidth and their−3 dB bandwidth,is between 1.35 and *** central transmission frequency,bandwidth,and spectral shape of the passband are all independently *** enhancement is based on two advances,compared with previous demonstrations of tunable SBS-basedMWPfilters:(a)the polarization attributes of SBS in standard,weakly birefringent fibers are used to discriminate between in-band and out-of-band components and(b)a sharp and uniform power spectral density of the SBS pump waves is synthesized through external modulation of an optical carrier by broadband,frequency-swept *** signal-to-noise ratio of filtered radio-frequency waveforms and the linear dynamic range of the filters are estimated analytically and quantified ***,a figure of merit for the performance of the filters is proposed and *** filters are applicable to radio-over-fiber transmission systems.

Autism spectrum disorder(ASD)affects 1-2%of all children and poses a great social and economic challenge for the *** a highly heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder,the development of its treatment is extremely *** pathways have been linked to the pathogenesis of ASD,including signaling involved in synaptic function,oxytocinergic activities,immune homeostasis,chromatin modifications,and mitochondrial ***,we identify secretagogin(SCGN),a regulator of synaptic transmission,as a new risk gene for *** heterozygous loss-of-function mutations in SCGN are presented in ASD *** of Scgn in zebrafish or mice leads to autism-like behaviors and impairs brain ***,Scgn deficiency disrupts the oxytocin signaling and abnormally activates inflammation in both animal *** ASD probands carrying Scgn mutations also show reduced oxytocin ***,we demonstrate that the administration of oxytocin and anti-inflammatory drugs can attenuate ASD-associated defects caused by SCGN ***,we identify a convergence between a potential autism genetic risk factor SCGN,and the pathological deregulation in oxytocinergic signaling and immune responses,providing potential treatment for ASD patients suffering from SCGN *** study also indicates that it is critical to identify and stratify ASD patient populations based on their disease mechanisms,which could greatly enhance therapeutic success.

The majority of recent studies on prevention and control of childhood obesity focus on methods for achieving weight loss. In contrast, the Health at Every Size (HAES) paradigm fosters improved health behaviors for people of all sizes by emphasizing natural diversity of body type and attention to social, emotional, and spiritual factors in addition to physical ones. This study examined introduction of the HAES paradigm to student teachers using different communication models while moving across the learning domains of Bloom’s Taxonomy. The qualitative research tested a face-to-face verbal communication model and a Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) module and its blog. It was also based upon reflection diaries recorded by participants using both models. Participants included Druze, Jewish, and Bedouin students at a teacher training program in northern Israel. The student teachers succeeded in developing the HAES concepts further while demonstrating the higher domain levels across Bloom’s Taxonomy. These higher levels emerged when engaging with theoretical concepts and practical dilemmas relating to the HAES concepts of health promotion, body image, well-being, and self-worth. Challenging the appreciation of HAES using different communication models can be translated into diverse contexts of Health Education Practices.

Survival Rate Analysis on Breast Cancer Cases at Univesity College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria

Breast cancer is one of the leading diseases that affect women’s lives. It affects their lives in so many ways by denying them the required standard of health needed to carry out all of their daily activities for some days, weeks, months or years before eventually causing death. This research estimates the survival rate of breast cancer patients and investigates the effects of stage of tumor, gender, age, ethnic group, occupation, marital status and type of cancer upon the survival of patients. Data used for the study were extracted from the case file of patients in the Radiation Oncology Department, University College Hospital, Ibadan using a well-structured pro forma in which 74 observations were censored and 30 events occurred. The Kaplan-Meier estimator was used to estimate the overall survival probability of breast cancer patients following their recruitment into the study and determine the mean and median survival times of breast cancer patients following their time of recruitment into the study. Since there are different groups with respect to the stages of tumor at the time of diagnosis, the log-rank test was used to compare the survival curve of the stages of tumor with considering p-values below 0.05 as statistically significant. Multivariate Cox regression was used to investigate the effects of some variables on the survival of patients. The overall cumulative survival probability obtained is 0.175 (17.5%). The overall estimated mean time until death is 28.751 weeks while the median time between admission and death is 23 weeks. As the p-value (0.000032) of the log-rank test for comparing stages of tumor is less than 0.05, it is concluded that there is significant evidence of a difference in survival times for the stages of tumor. The survival function plot for the stages of tumor shows that patients with stage III tumor are less likely to survive. From the estimated mean time until death for the stages of tumor, it was deduced that stage I tumor patients

Background: PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors have emerged as promising treatments for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).Methods: Systematic review and meta-analysis of PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors in HNSCC. Outcomes: median overall survival (mOS), median progression-free survival (mPFS), Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) and treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs).Results: Eleven trials reported data on 1088 patients (mean age: 59.9 years, range: 18-90). The total mOS was 7.97 months (range: 6.0-16.5). Mean mPFS for all studies was 2.84 months (range: 1.9-6.5). PD-1 inhibitors had a lower rate of RECIST Progressive Disease than PD-L1 inhibitors (42.61%, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 36.29-49.06 vs. 56.79%, 95% CI: 49.18-64.19,P < 0.001). The rate of TRAEs of any grade (62.7%, 95% CI: 59.8-65.6) did not ***: Meta-analysis shows the efficacy of PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors in HNSCC and suggests a possible difference in certain RECIST criterion between PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors. Future work to investigate the clinical significance of these findings is warranted.

The incompleteness of patient health data is a threat to the management of COVID-19 in Africa and *** has become particularly clear with the recent emergence of new variants of *** Virus Outbreak Data Network(VODAN)-Africa has studied the curation of patient health data in selected African countries and identified that health information flows often do not involve the use of health data at the point of care,which renders data production largely meaningless to those producing *** modus operandi leads to disfranchisement over the control of health data,which is extracted to be processed *** response to this problem,VODAN-Africa studied whether or not a design that makes local ownership and repositing of data central to the data curation process,would have a greater chance of being *** design team based their work on the legal requirements of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation(GDPR);the FAIR Guidelines on curating data as Findable,Accessible(under well-defined conditions),Interoperable and Reusable(FAIR);and national regulations applying in the context where the data is *** study concluded that the visiting of data curated as machine actionable and reposited in the locale where the data is produced and renders services has great potential for access to a wider variety of data.A condition of such innovation is that the innovation team is intradisciplinary,involving stakeholders and experts from all of the places where the innovation is designed,and employs a methodology of co-creation and capacity-building.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis rarely occurs in immuno- competent patients. We report a case of disabling and life threatening diarrhea in an immunocompetent elderly woman due to CMV colitis. The diagnosis of CMV was based on histological examination of tissues biopsied at colonoscopy, positive CMV antigen and high CMV-IgM titer in peripheral blood samples and a good response to systemic gancyclovir treatment. We conclude that CMV should be considered in the differential diagnosis of coli- tis in elderly immunocompetent patients.
