Levels of biological markers of nitric oxide in serum of patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity

The aim of the study was a determination of the levels of nitric oxide（NO）and its biological markers such as malonyldialdehyde（MDA）and nitrotyrosine in the serum of patients with squamous cell carcinoma（SCC）of the oral cavity and identification of the relationships between NO and those *** studies were performed on patients with SCC of the oral cavity before and after *** reaction was used for the estimation of the total concentration of NO in *** nitrotyrosine level in serum was assessed with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay（ELISA）kit,and MDA level using a spectrophotometric *** concentrations of NO in blood serum were determined in patients with stage IV of the disease before treatment in comparison to the control group and patients with stages II and III of the ***,higher concentrations of MDA and nitrotyrosine were determined in the serum of patients in all stages of the disease in comparison to healthy *** treatment,lower concentrations of NO in the serum of patients with stage IV of the disease were observed in comparison to the amounts obtained prior to *** addition,lower levels of nitrotyrosine in the serum of patients with all stages of the disease were recorded,whereas higher concentrations of MDA were determined in these patients in comparison to results obtained before *** compounds formed with the contribution of NO,such as MDA and nitrotyrosine,may lead to cancer progression in patients with SCC of the oral cavity,and contribute to formation of resistance to therapy in these patients as ***,the lack of a relationship between concentrations of NO and MDA,and between NO and nitrotyrosine in serum suggests that the process of lipid peroxidation and nitration in patients with SCC does not just depend on NO.

Objective:In this study,we investigated the concept of empowerment in chronic wound care and propose to facilitate patient control by making use of degrees of freedom(DOF):that is,shaping of everyday wound care tasks initiated by patients and based on their wishes,mostly in terms of patients executing treatment steps,requesting or directing health care professionals to under take changes,or modifications of internal ***:As a first step,we conducted a systematic literature search,followed by an inductive form of qualitative content analysis,which resulted in the identification of 5 dimensions as main elements of empowerment:education and shared decision making,adherence to self-care behaviors,responsibility and control,general call for empowerment,and ***,the latter are noticeably absent in the *** investigate patients'freedom in shaping the wound care process,we conducted a second literature ***:A number of possibilities for patients to influence the wound care process could be identified,but experimental or clinical evidence about their effects is missing,their variety is limited,and they are only inadequately ***:However,DOF should be an indispensable aspect of genuine empowerment,since they allow patients to occupy the role of the agent in the treatment process and give rise to the subjective experience of feeling ***,in the third part,we develop a research proposal on how to investigate and include DOF in the clinical practice of wound ***,limitations about implementations are discussed(e.g.,patients being reluctant to overcome their passive role,resulting in frustration for health care professionals).

Remote photoplethysmography （rPPg） allows remote measurement of the heart rate using low-cost RgB imaging equipment. In this study, we review the development of the field of rPPg since its emergence in 2008. We also classify existing rPPg approaches and derive a framework that provides an overview of modular steps. Based on this framework, practitioners can use our classification to design algorithms for an rPPg approach that suits their specific needs. Researchers can use the reviewed and classified algorithms as a starting point to improve particular features of an rPPg algorithm.

Throughout the animal kingdom, Wnt-triggered signal transduction pathways play fundamental roles in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis. Wnt proteins are modified as glycolipoproteins and are secreted into the extracellular environment as morphogens. Recent studies on the intraceHular trafficking of Wnt proteins demonstrate multiple layers of regulation along its secretory pathway. These findings have propelled a great deal of interest among researchers to further investigate the molecular mechanisms that control the release of Wnts and hence the level of Wnt signaling. This review is dedicated to Wntless, a putative g-protein coupled receptor that transports Wnts intracellularly for secretion. Here, we highlight the conclusions drawn from the most recent cellular, molecular and genetic studies that affirm the role of Wntless in the secretion of Wnt proteins.

Terbium doped yttrium oxide was prepared with the microwave hydrothermal method. The Y2O3：Tb nanomaterial crystal- lized as needle-like grains. Bright luminescence in the green region was observed. Significant luminescence intensity increase was obtained after thermal treatment. Reduction of terbium ions was observed after heating in the air atmosphere. Tb4＋ ions were found to be stabilized by crystal impurities. Hydroxyl species were found to have impact on vacancies elimination. The terbium ions were used as optical and magnetic indicator of the material properties.

The use of nonsystematic flood data for statistical purposes depends on reliability of assessment both flood magnitudes and their return period. The earliest known extreme flood year is usually the beginning of the historical record. Even though the magnitudes of historic floods are properly assessed, a problem of their retun periods remains unsolved. Only largest flood (XM) is known during whole historical period and its occurrence carves the mark of the beginning of the historical period and defines its length (L). So, it is a common practice of using the earliest known flood year as the beginning of the record. It means that the L value selected is an empirical estimate of the lower bound on the effective historical length M. The estimation of the return period of XM based on its occurrence, i.e. , gives the severe upward bias. Problem is to estimate the time period (M) representative of the largest observed flood XM. From the discrete uniform distribution with support of the probability of the L position of XM one gets ?which has been taken as the return period of XM and as the effective historical record length. The efficiency of using the largest historical flood (XM) for large quantile estimation (i.e. one with return period T = 100 years) has been assessed using maximum likelihood (ML) method with various length of systematic record (N) and various estimates of historical period length ?com- paring accuracy with the case when only systematic records alone (N) are used. The i-th simula- tion procedure incorporates systematic record and one largest historic flood (XMi) in the period M which appeared in the Li year backward from the end of historical period. The simulation result for selected distributions, values of their parameters, different N and M values are presented in terms of bias (B) and root mean square error (RMSE) of the quantile of interest and widely discussed.

Purpose： The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic Rhodiola rosea （R. rosea） supplementation on mental and physical performance, as well as hormonal and oxidative stress biomarkers. Methods： Twenty-six healthy male students received either R. rosea extract （600 mg/day; RR） or placebo （PL） in a randomized double-blind trial. Prior to supplementation （Term I） and following 4 weeks of supplementation （Term II）, the students underwent psychomotor tests for simple and choice reaction time, included in the Vienna Test System. Also, the subjects performed VO2peak test. Blood samples were obtained before and after the test to measure the hormonal profile （cortisol, testosterone, and growth hormone）, as well as the biomarkers of oxidative stress （lipid hydroperoxides, total antioxidant capacity, and superoxide dismutase） and muscle damage （creatine kinase）. Results： R. rosea ingestion shortened reaction time and total response time. Moreover, a greater relative increase in the number of correct responses was observed in RR group as compared to the PL group. No changes in endurance exercise capacity and hormonal profile were observed after R. rosea ingestion. R. rosea ingestion raised plasma total antioxidant capacity. It did not, however, affect other measured parameters. Conclusion： Chronic R. rosea ingestion does not affect physical performance, but can improve the results of some psychomotor tests （simple and choice reaction time） in young, healthy, and physically active men. The improvements in mental performance, however, at least in our study, seem not to be related to changes in cortisol release or antioxidant activity of R. rosea extract.
