Trends in the indices of precipitation phases under current warming in Poland,1966e2020

In Poland the phase in which precipitation occurs impacts the availability of water in its reservoirs,the potential for hydrological droughts,snowfall flooding and winter *** influence of warming on the occurrence of precipitation phases on the Polish scale has not been studied so *** on data from 42 synoptic stations for the period 1966-2020,this study discusses trends in the indices of liquid(Lq),mixed(Mx)and solid(Sd)precipitation describing their totals(T),frequencies(Nd)and contribution to overall precipitation totals(T%)and a number of days with overall precipitation(Nd%)from a seasonal ***,the influence of seasonal and daily air temperatures on longterm variability in the precipitation phase indices was *** precipitation phase was discriminated based on the observations of weather phenomena noted as current and past weather considering days with precipitation0.1 *** phases significantly reacted to current *** strongest and widespread were increasing trends in rains(+1.74 for LqNd,+5.35 mm for LqT,+3.51%for LqNd%,+4.08%for LqT%per decade)and decreasing trends in snowfalls(-1.92 for SdNd,-3.12 mm for SdT,-3.65%for SdNd%,-3.26%for SdT%per decade)in winter when the warming was weakest but average temperature was close to freezing *** winter,air temperature explained 60%e80%of the variance in the frequency of snowfall and *** air temperature>-2℃ contributed to trends in winter rainfall while daily air temperature>1C most contributed to trends in winter *** trends in winter mixed precipitation were due to opposite changes in its frequency above and below 1℃.In spring,the increase in a liquid phase was due more to the melting of a solid and mixed phase,while in autumn,it was due more to the transformation of a mixed phase into a liquid *** spring,air temperature explained at most 30%-50%of the variance in the indices of snowfall *** trends in mixed precipit

Succinite,Baltic amber,is one of the most appreciated fossil *** beauty has fascinated people since prehistoric *** is a substance,and also gemstone,whose uniqueness is due to its compelling,though still not fully understood,physicochemical *** this article,some facts about the physical and chemical properties of succinite in order to find an answer for questions about the unique properties of this resin,such as color,transparency,texture etc.,are *** properties are among the factors that determine the choice of Baltic amber as a *** known properties of succinite,but also some less obvious features,have been linked to the organic and inorganic chemical composition and structural factors,including the sophisticated supramolecular structure masterfully created by *** of the properties of succinite used as a jewelry stone are discussed as a reflection of changes in its physicochemical *** this light,some methods that can be used to identify succinite(i.e.,infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy)and their relevance to the classification of fossil resins are briefly *** article highlights an important point:only by understanding the chemical and physical nature of the material we able to identify,modify and effectively use the goods that have been given to us by mother nature.

A dopamine and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor （bupropion） does not alter exercise performance of bank voles

Physical performance is determined both by biophysical and physiological limitations and behav- ioral characteristic, specifically motivation. We applied an experimental evolution approach com- bined with pharmacological manipulation to test the hypothesis that evolution of increased aerobic exercise performance can be triggered by evolution of motivation to undertake physical activity. We used a unique model system： bank voles from A lines, selected for high swim-induced aerobic metabolism （VO2swim）, which achieved a 61% higher mass-adjusted VO2swim than those from un- selected C lines. Because the voles could float on the water surface with only a minimum activity, the maximum rate of metabolism achieved in that test depended not only on their aerobic capacity, but also on motivation to undertake intensive activity. Therefore, we hypothesized that signaling of neurotransmitters putatively involved in regulating physical activity （dopamine and noradrenaline） had changed in response to selection. We measured VO2swim after intraperitoneal injections of sa- line or the norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor bupropion （20 mg/kg or 30 mg/kg）. Additionally, we measured forced-exercise VO2 （VO2max）. In C lines, VO2swim （mass-adjusted mean ± standard error （SE）： 4.0 ± 0.1 mLO2/min） was lower than VO2max （5.0 ± 0.1 mLO2/min）, but in A lines VO2swim （6.0 ± 0.1 mLO2/min） was as high as VO2max （6.0 ± 0.1 mLO2/min）. Thus, the selection effectively changed both the physiological-physical performance limit and mechanisms responsible for the willingness to undertake vigorous locomotor activity. Surprisingly, the drug had no effect on the achieved level of VO2swim. Thus, the results did not allow firm conclusions concerning involvement of these neurotransmitters in evolution of increased aerobic exercise performance in the experimental evolution model system.

Diffusion layers produced on carbon steel surface in vacuum titanizing process were investigated. Studies of layers thickness, their morphology, titanium, carbon and iron concentration depth profiles in the diffusion zone of titanized layers were carried out. The effect of process parameters such as time and temperature on the kinetics of layer growth on steel surface was investigated. Tribocorrosion resistance of titanized layers was determined.

Distribution of Selected Critical Elements in the Carboniferous Coal-bearing Series of the Upper Silesian and Lublin Coal Basins(Poland)

The distribution of selected critical elements in the sedimentary rocks of the Carboniferous coal-bearing series within the Polish Coal Basins is *** elements such as Be,Mg,Si,P,Sc,V,Co,Y,Nb,In,Sb,La,Ce,Hf,Ta,W,Bi were analysed using inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP/MS).Concentrations of elements such as Sb,Bi,In and,to a slightly lesser extent,Nb,as well as Sc,show average concentrations higher than those from the upper continental *** average concentrations of elements like Hf,Mg,P,Y,La,and Ce are slightly lower than in the upper continental *** elements,such as Be,Co,Si,Ta,W and V have average concentrations that are similar,but slightly enriched or slightly depleted,relative to the upper continental *** research showed enrichment of some critical elements in the analysed samples,but not high enough that extraction would be economically *** methods,which include correlation coefficients between elements and cluster analysis,reveal a strong positive correlation between elements like Be,Bi,Nb,Sc,Ta,W and *** high,almost total,positive correlation is also noted between La and Ce.

The effect of monoamines reuptake inhibitors on aerobic exercise performance in bank voles from a selection experiment

Exercise performance depends on both physiological abilities (e.g., muscle strength) and behavioral characteristics (e.g., motivati on). We tested the hypothesis that evoluti on of in creased aerobic exercise performanee can be facilitated by evolution of neuropsychological mechanisms responsible for motivation to undertake physical activity. We used a unique model system: lines of bank voles Myodes glareolus selected for high swim-induced aerobic metabolism ("aerobic" A lines). In gen eration 21, voles from the 4 A lines achieved a 57% higher /y voluntary maximum" swiminduced aerobic metabolism (V02swim) than voles from 4 unselected,"control" C lines. In C lines, V02swim was 9% lower than the maximum forced-exercise aerobic metabolism (VO2run;P= 0.007), while in A lines it was even higher than VO2run, although not significantly (4%, P=0.15). Thus, we hypothesized that selection changed both the aerobic capacity and the neuronal mechanisms behi nd motivation to un dertake activity. We investigated the influe nee of reuptake in hibitors of dopamine (DARI), serotonin (SSRI), and norepinephrine (NERI) on VOaSwim. The drugs decreased V02swim both in C and A lines (% decrease compared with saline: DARI 8%, Pger effect in C lines: P= 0.008) and the difference was marginally non-significant for SSRI (P= 0.07) and DARI (P= 0.06). Thus, the results suggest that all the 3 monoamines are involved in signaling pathways controlling the motivation to be active and that norepinephrine could have played a role in the evolution of increased aerobic exercise performance in our animal model.

Spatiotemporal trends of PM_(2.5) and its major chemical components at urban sites in Canada

To evaluate the effectiveness of emission control regulations designed for reducing air pollution, chemically resolved PM_(2.5) data have been collected across Canada through the National Air Pollution Surveillance network in the past decade. 24-hr time integrated PM_(2.5) collected at seven urban and two rural sites during 2010-2016 were analyzed to characterize geographical and seasonal patterns and associated potential causes. Site-specific seven-year mean gravimetric PM_(2.5) mass concentrations ranged from 5.7 to 9.6 μg/m^(3). Seven-year mean concentrations of SO_(4)^(2-), NO_(3)^(-), NH_(4)^(+), organic carbon(OC), and elemental carbon(EC) were in the range of 0.68 to 1.6, 0.21 to 1.5, 0.27 to 0.71, 1.1 to 1.9, and 0.37 to 0.71 μg/m^(3), accounting for 10.8%-18.1%, 3.7%-16.7%, 4.7%-7.4%, 18.4%-21.0%, and 6.4%-10.6%, respectively, of gravimetric PM_(2.5) mass. PM_(2.5) and its five major chemical components showed higher concentrations in southeastern Canada and lower values in Atlantic Canada, with the seven-year mean ratios between the two regions being on the order of 1.7 for PM_(2.5) and 1.8-7.1 for its chemical components. When comparing the concentrations between urban and rural sites within the same region, those of SO_(4)^(2-) and NH_(4)^(+) were comparable, while those of NO_(3)^(-), OC, and EC were around 20%, 40%-50%, and 70%-80%, respectively, higher at urban than rural sites, indicating the regional scale impacts of SO_(4)^(2-) and NH_(4)^(+) and effects of local sources on OC and EC. Monthly variations generally showed summertime peaks for SO_(4)^(2-) and wintertime peaks for NO_(3)^(-), but those of NH_(4)^(+), OC, and EC exhibited different seasonality at different locations.

Effect of pH-dependent bath speciation on cobalt electrodeposition from sulfate-gluconate solutions

pH-dependent multiple equilibria in cobalt sulfate-gluconate bathswerecalculated using stability constants adopted from literature. Changes of the bath speciation were thendiscussed in terms of spectrophotometric experiments and buffering properties of the solutions (pH of 3-10).Cyclic voltammetry indicated changes in electrochemical behavior of cobalt species caused by different ionic composition of the electrolytes. Tafel slopes were calculated and discussed in relation to electroreduction of cobalt species. Chronoamperometric studies showed 3D instantaneous nucleation of cobalt followed by diffusion controlled growth， but it was disturbed at higher pH due to release of cation from gluconate complexes as a limiting step. Diffusion coefficients of cobalt species were found. Changes in the pH werealso reflected by modifications of morphology (SEM)，development of preferred orientation planes(XRD， texture coefficients)and current efficiency， but not thickness of the coatings deposited at constant potential of -1.0V (Ag/AgCl).Anodic stripping analysis showed changes in anodic responses originated from the existence of preferentially oriented planes in cobalt layers.

Small bowel tumors detected and missed during capsule endoscopy: Single center experience

AIM:To characterize small bowel(SB)tumors detected by capsule endoscopy(CE),and identify missed ***:The study included 145 consecutive patients in whom 150 CEs were *** CE,the medical records of the study population were *** of double-or single-balloon enteroscopy performed after CE and the results of surgery in all patients operated on were *** patients were contacted through telephone interviews or postal *** addition,the national cancer registry and the polish clinical gastrointestinal stromal tumor(gIST)Registry were searched to identify missed ***:Indications for CE included overt and occult obscure gastrointestinal bleeding(n=81,53.7%),anemia(n=19,12.7%),malabsorption(n=18,12%),abnormal CB follow through(n=9,6%),abdominal pain(n=7,5%),celiac disease(n=5,3%),neuroendocrine tumor(n=3,2%),Crohn’s disease(n=2,ghers syndrome(n=2,gations,CE identified 15SB tumors(10%),14 of which were operated on or treated *** included metastatic melanoma(n=1),adenocarcinoma(n=2),and gIST(n=3).Benign neoplasms included dysplastic Peutz-Jeghers polyps(n=4).Non-neoplastic masses included venous malformation(n=1),inflammatory tumors(n=2),and a mass of unknown histology(n=1).During the follow-up period,three additional SB tumors were found(2 gISTs and one mesenteric tumor of undefined nature).The National Cancer Registry and Polish Clinical gIST Registry revealed no additional SB neoplasms in the post-examination period(follow-up:range 4.2-102.5 mo,median 39 mo).The sensitivity of CE for tumor detection was 83.3%,and the negative predictive value was 97.6%.The specificity and positive predictive value were both 100%.CONCLUSION:Neoplasms may be missed by CE,especially in the proximal *** overt obscure gastrointestinal bleeding,complementary endoscopic and/or rad
