Moringa oleifera Lam(Moringaceae) is a plant with high nutritional and medicinal value. Native to India, it is now widely distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Its different parts are sources of proteins, vitamins and minerals and present different pharmacological and biotechnological potential. Moreover, M. oleifera seeds are widely used in water and effluent treatment, for their coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation properties, their ability of improving water quality, by reducing organic matter and microbial load, with special applicability in intensive animal production systems, such as aquaculture. In addition, due to its high nutritional value and several medicinal properties, this tree may act as a nutritional and medical alternative for socially neglected populations. In this context, this review gathers information on M. oleifera, emphasizing its chemical constituents, nutritional, pharmacological and antimicrobial properties, applications in the treatment of water effluents, and ecological and social aspects.

Photodynamic therapy today is becoming an important role in the healing of lacerated tissues, since it has therapeutic resources capable of accelerating this process. One treatment option is the clinical phototherapy, and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is being widely used. This study aims to evaluate the effect of PDT on the healing of skin wounds in rats. We used a sample of 39 male rats Wistar divided into three groups, a control, a PDT-treated green and red with the last PDT. After 24 hours before the surgical incisions, PDT was used in both groups for 6 minutes and was evaluated in histological level, the inflammatory reaction and the repair process. The results showed that the granulation tissue was more developed in the irradiated group than in the control group and the amount of chronic inflammatory cells (monocytes, macrophages, lymphocytes and plasma cells) predominated with green phototherapy. The epithelialization in the wound margins and scarring with better quality occurred with red PDT (640 nm), which the higher deposition was of collagen. However, phototherapy not collimated of 640 nm (red) resulted in better anti-inflammatory effects. Given these answers with phototherapy not collimated green (525 nm) and red (640 nm), we conclude that the use of these wavelengths is possible with benefits, mainly with red LED.

The present study evaluates the performance of three numerical weather forecasting models: Global Forecast System (GFS), Brazilian Regional Atmospheric Modelling System (BRAMS) and ETA Regional Model (ETA), by means of the Mean Error (ME) and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), during the most rainy four months period (January to April 2012) on Eastern Amazonia. The models displayed errors of superestimation and underestimation with respect to the observed precipitation, mainly over center-north of Pará and all of Amapá, where the precipitation is higher. Among the analyzed models, GFS shows the best performance, except during January and March, when the model to underestimated precipitation, possibly due to the anomalously high values recorded.

The Education for Health at PET Work Program (PET-Health) is focused on education as a pre-supposition. Actions are directed towards to the integration of service-learning and community. Interdisciplinary principle is directed from fusion of work of graduate students, academics and professionals of health services for the benefit of strengthening primary care and health surveillance. This work aimed to carry out educational activities with Community Health Agents (ACS) of the health facilities of PET-health, with the theme of Chagas disease. This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out from January to May 2013, and the sample consisted of 25 active ACS in six Basic Health Units in the city of Petrolina, Brazil. In spite of actuation of ACS in primary care for over 10 years, a limited knowledge has been developed about this pathology. The health education workshops developed by the PET group clarified the ACS on Chagas disease allowing them to have an expansion of knowledge about the vector, habitat Barber, transmission, clinical manifestations… After the workshop, it was found that the ACS expanded their knowledge about the disease cycle, expanding the possibilities for action in the prevention of this pathology in their respective coverage areas. This work shows an important form of integration between education, service and community that can govern the new direction of health education.

Objective:To investigate the isolation of enterobacteria associated with Macrobrachium amazonicum(***) farming and evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility of Vibrio ***:Strains were isolated from female *** prawns and environmental and hatchery *** assays were used to identify bacterial genera and those belonging to the genus Vibrio were submitted to further analyses for species identification,through Vitek 2 automated system and *** test was performed according to Clinical Laboratory Standards ***:The following genera of enlerobacteria were recovered:Enterobacter(n=11),Citrobacter(n=10),Proteus(n=2),Serratia(n=2),Kluyvera(n=2),Providencia(n=2),Cedecea(n=1),Escherichia(n=1).Edwardsiella(n=1) and BulliauxeUa(n=1).As for Vibrio,three species were identified:Vibrio cholerae non-O1/non-O139(n=4).Vibrio vulnificus(***)(n=1) and Vibrio mimicus(n=1).Vibrio *** minimum inhibitory concentrations values within the susceptibility range established by Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute for almost all antibiotics,except for ***,which presented intermediate profile to ***:Enterobacteria do not seem to be the most important pathogens associated with *** farming,whereas the recovery of Vibrio *** larviculture,with emphasis on Vibrio cholerae and ***,deserves special attention due to their role as potentially zoonotic aquaculture-associated ***,the intermediate susceptibility of *** to ampicillin reflects the importance of monitoring drug use in prawn farming.

Determining the Soil Erodibility for an Experimental Basin in the Semi-Arid Region Using Geoprocessing

Erosion is the natural process which has the greatest environmental impact, and is the principal trigger for desertification around the globe. The main model used to estimate soil loss by erosion is the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE), which unites the major factors that influence erosion into one equation. The soil erodibility factor (K) is the component of this equation that represents soil physics, and is defined as the inherent capacity of the soil to withstand disintegration of its particles and their subsequent transport. The use of geostatistics is seen as an alternative in spatializing this variable from sampled to non-sampled points. The aim of this study therefore, was to determine the soil erodibility factor for an experimental basin in the semi-arid region of Brazil, in addition to generating the soil erodibility map using geostatistics. Disturbed and undisturbed soil samples were collected from 35 points, and laboratory samples were processed to determine the granulometry, permeability and organic matter of the soil, data which are used to determine the K-factor. Kriging was performed to spatialize the study variable, when spherical, exponential and Gaussian semivariograms were tested for generation of the soil erodibility map, these being evaluated by their respective deviations resulting from cross-validation. The mean value of K for the Haplic Luvisol was 0.0328 ton·ha·h/ha·MJ·mm;for the eutrophic Red-Yellow Argisol it was 0.0258 ton·ha·h/ha·MJ·mm;and for the Fluvic Neosol, it was 0.0424 ton·ha·h/ha·MJ·mm. The experimental basin is classified as highly erodible. The semivariogram that presented the best fit for generating the soil erodibility map of the study area was Gaussian.

Bredemeyera floribunda Wild (Polygalaceae), also known as pau-de-ovo is a medicinal plant used to treat snakebites, as tonic and fortifiers to treat fatigue and exhaustion. The aim of the present study was to document the knowledge of herbal sellers in the preparation of the so-called “B. floribunda fortifier” and to compare the plant root content with the recommended nutritional values and the permitted limit for medicinal plants. The study revealed that, unlike other regions of Brazil, in the Midwest region, the root of the plant is used as food to treat fatigue and exhaustion. The contents in B. floribunda root decreased in the following order: Ca > K > P > Na > Fe > Mg > Si > Mn > Zn > Cu. daily intake of 30 grams of B. floribunda roots are considered as an excellent source of Cr, Cu, Mn and Se for people 19 to 50 years of age according to the Rda. In addition, Cu and Fe showed content above the established limit for medicinal plants stipulated by other countries. The root of the plant has low K, Mg, P, Na and Zn content. When the contents in roots of the plant are below the oral dose of reference, consumption of this plant can be considered safe and without risk to human health. On the other hand, concentration of elements such as Cu, Fe, Ni, Al, Cr and Se exceeding the allowable limit may cause serious health problems due to prolonged ingestion and large amounts consumed daily. The Brazilian legislation does not establish a permissible limit of macro- and micro-elements in medicinal plants;thus, the results presented in this study will contribute to the Brazilian public health policy on medicinal plants.

PET Oligomer Waste to Modify CAP Characteristics

To develop an improved method of reusing poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) waste in the production chain, it was chemically modified with pentaerythritol (PENTE), resulting in PET/PENTE (60/40) oligomer. This was added to petroleum asphalt cement (CAP) in different proportions—5, 10 and 20 wt%—as a modifier of bitumen characteristics. The mixture was evaluated by thermogravimetry (TG/DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), optical microscopy (OM) and the adhesion-peel test. The oligomer enhanced substantially the asphalt thermal stability-Tonset. OM images showed strong compatibility between components and PET’s amorphization. PET oligomer increased CAP’s wettability and the mixture presented cohesive fracture through the peel test. The mixture has excellent potential as paving material.

The “bai?o de dois” is a typical Brazilian dish and a rich combination of rice and beans. This preparation has a high nutritional value but its effect on glycemic response is not yet studied. To determine the glycemic index and glycemic load of foods can help prescribing diets and as a result, improving the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases. This study aimed to access the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) of “bai?o de dois”. Following the protocol recommended by the Food and Agriculture Organization, 6 volunteers were recruited to perform blood glucose tests. Each volunteer performed three glucose tolerance tests and a test with “bai?o de dois”. All tests were undertaken in separate weeks. Through the calculation of the areas under each of the curves, it was possible to access the GI of “bai?o de dois” by the average values of six GIs found for each volunteer. It was calculated that the GL of each portion tested and recommended servings per capita. It was found that “bai?o de dois” had low GI (44) and GL (6) at the recommended per capita, but high GL (22) at the portion tested (bigger than the recommended). The “bai?o de dois” do not present a potential risk for developing chronic diseases, but it is recommended consumption to be monitored.

年轻恒前牙经常发生外伤露髓，本文报告一例上颌恒切牙因复杂冠折导致牙髓暴露，采用活髓部份切断术及复合树脂充填修复。术后追踪复查8个月，结果牙髓活力正常，根尖周无异常。结论是年轻恒切牙外伤露髓推荐使用活髓部份切断术。
