A reconfigurable propulsion unit based on the Peaucellier-Lipkin mechanism has the ability to describe exact straight or curved paths depending on the selected ratio between the lengths of two of its links. The Peaucellier-Lipkin mechanism with one degree of freedom is transformed into a more sophisticated parallel kinematic chain by including four more degrees of freedom. The resulting propulsion unit is able to adapt its kinematic structure and reach instant centers of rotation, in accordance with the presence of three points that border a geometric path. A laser sensor mounted on the body of the machine detects each point. Once the machine has detected the exact location of the border of the road, it walks along a curve parallel to that border. Although the proposed research describes only one propulsion unit or leg, the methodology can be applied to all the legs of the walking machine. The novel 5-DOF leg is able to reach different centers of rotation, providing either the concave or convex arcs that satisfy the basic principle of displacement of walking machines.

A Comparison between Late Preterm and Term Infants with Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Early-Onset Sepsis, and Neonatal Jaundice in Ecuadorian Newborns

Background: To examine the differences in prevalence of respiratory distress syndrome, early-onset sepsis and jaundice, between late preterm infants versus term infants in Ecuadorian newborns. Methods: Study design: Epidemiological, observational, and cross-sectional, with two cohorts of patients. Settings: IESS Quito Sur Hospital at Quito, Ecuador, from February to April of 2020. Participants: This study included 204 newborns, 102 preterm infants, 102 term infants. Results: There are significant differences between late preterm infants and term infants, with a p-value of 0.000 in the prevalence of early sepsis, 70.59% vs. 35.29%. In respiratory distress syndrome between late and term premature infants, significant differences were observed with a p-value of 0.000, the proportion being 55.58% vs. 24.51% respectively. The prevalence of jaundice is higher in term infants with a p value of 0.002, 72.55%, versus 51.96% in late preterm infants, and the mean value of bilirubins in mg/dL was higher in term infants 14.32 versus 12.33 in late preterm infants;this difference is statistically significant with a p value of 0.004. Admission to the NICU is more frequent in late preterm infants with a p-value of 0.000, being 42.16% for late preterm infants vs. 7.84% in term infants;the mean of the hospital days with p-value 0.005, was higher in late preterm infants 4.97 days vs. 3.55 days for term newborns. Conclusion: Due to the conditions of their immaturity, late preterm infants are 2.86 times more likely to present early sepsis than full-term newborns. It is shown that late preterm infants are 2.69 times more likely to have respiratory distress syndrome compared to term infants, therefore, late preterm infants have a longer hospital stay of 4.97 days versus 3.55 days in term infants. Jaundice and mean bilirubin levels are higher in term infants due to blood group incompatibility and insufficient breastfeeding.

The setting up of a country or region-based inventory is considered a crucial step toward the elimination of worldwide persistent organic pollutants(POPs)***,the need of comparable emission inventories at city or region level is widely recognized to develop evidence-based policies accounting for the relation between emissions and institutional,socio-economic and demographic characteristics at small scale *** to the low spatial and temporal resolution of the available measurements,highly variable air concentrations of several POPs have been observed in Latin American and Caribbean *** paper presents a high resolution spatially disaggregated atmospheric emission inventory for selected POPs in order to assess the environmental fate of some of these compounds in a finer *** study case we estimated releases to air of POPs in a typical mid-size urban conglomeration in *** compounds were total polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs),total polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs),total dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane(DDT)on a sum basis,hexachlorobenzene(HCB)and dioxins and furans(PCDD/Fs),for which emissions were estimated in 0.92 kg/year,1.65 kg/year,4.2E-02 kg/year(total sum of congeners),0.86 kg/year and 4.4E-02 kg/year respectively,values that are in accordance with the geographic and economic *** emitting sources are quite varied,there are very clear trends,particularly in relation to open burning of municipal solid waste and agrochemical use as major ***,the inventory provides valuable data for the analysis of the heterogeneity of POP emissions and the necessary inputs for air quality modeling.

Approximately 1.5 billion chronic liver disease(CLD)cases have been estimated worldwide,encompassing a wide range of liver damage ***,liver disease causes approximately 1.75 million deaths per *** is typically characterized by the silent and progressive deterioration of liver parenchyma due to an incessant inflammatory process,cell death,over deposition of extracellular matrix proteins,and dysregulated ***,these processes impair the correct function of this vital *** and liver cancer are the main complications of CLD,which accounts for 3.5%of all deaths *** transplantation is the optimal therapeutic option for advanced liver *** liver is one of the most common organs transplanted;however,only 10%of liver transplants are *** this context,regenerative medicine has made significant progress in the design of biomaterials,such as collagen matrix scaffolds,to address the limitations of organ transplantation(e.g.,low donation rates and biocompatibility).Thus,it remains crucial to continue with experimental and clinical studies to validate the use of collagen matrix scaffolds in liver disease.

Global monitoring of Persistent Organic Pollutants(POPs)has allowed the knowledge of levels and distribution around the world as well as the understanding of its transport through the ***,there are still some gaps in this regard,especially in some locations,as the case of Great Mendoza,a medium-sized urban area located in the center-west of *** this work,the WRF/CALMET/CALPUFF modeling system was used to estimate airborne levels of four families of POPs(PCBs,PBDEs,DDTs and HCB)in the study *** model was validated from measured data obtained from eleven sites using passive air samplers with polyurethane foam disks(PUFs),subsequently analyzed by GC-ECNI/*** both sets of data,measured and simulated airborne concentrations,five statistical performance metrics were calculated for each family of POP[Mean bias error,(MBE),Fractional Bias(FB),Normalized Mean Square Error(NMSE),Factor of two(Fa2)and Pearson correlation coefficient(r)].Results exhibited a good agreement between modeled and measured data,showing that WRF/CALMET/CALPUFF modeling system predicts POPs airborne concentrations with reasonable accuracy at a local *** output was used to examine the relative source contribution to ground-level concentrations and to assess the spatial variability of the studied POPs in the study *** apportionment showed the prevalence of emissions from open burning of municipal solid waste(ranging from 9%to 90%)on the simulated atmospheric *** presented the lowest mean contribution from this activity(37%)but the highest variability(SD=20%),followed by PCBs(69±9%),and PBDEs(84±4%).The spatial pattern obtained from simulations exhibited that both,lowest and highest levels predicted by the model,occurred in areas where no samples were taken,suggesting that the real gradient in the POPs air concentrations would be much greater than those reflected by measured *** work highlights the usefulness of the implementatio

Swarming Computational Techniques for the Influenza Disease System

The current study relates to designing a swarming computational paradigm to solve the influenza disease system(IDS).The nonlinear system’s mathematical form depends upon four classes:susceptible individuals,infected people,recovered individuals and cross-immune *** solutions of the IDS are provided by using the artificial neural networks(ANNs)together with the swarming computational paradigm-based particle swarmoptimization(PSO)and interior-point scheme(IPA)that are the global and local search *** ANNs-PSO-IPA has never been applied to solve the *** a merit function in the sense of mean square error is constructed using the differential form of each class of the IDS and then optimized by the *** correctness and accuracy of the scheme are observed to perform the comparative analysis of the obtained IDS results with the Adams solutions(reference solutions).An absolute error in suitable measures shows the precision of the proposed ANNs procedures and the optimization efficiency of the ***,the reliability and competence of the proposed computing method are enhanced through the statistical performances.
