Heme oxygenase (HO)-1 is the inducible isoform of the first and rate-limiting enzyme of heme degradation. HO-1 not only protects against oxidative stress and apoptosis, but has received a great deal of attention in recent years because ofits potent anti-inflammatory functions. Studies with HO-1 knockout animal models have led to major advances in the understanding of how HO-1 might regulate inflammatory immune responses, although little is known on the underlying mechanisms. Due to its beneficial effects the targeted induction of this enzyme is considered to have major therapeutic po- tential for the treatment ofinflammatory disorders. This review discusses current knowledge on the mechanisms that mediate anti-inflammatory protection by HO-1. More specifically, the article deals with the role of HO-1 in the pathophysiology of viral hepatitis, inflammatorybowel disease, and pancreatitis. The effects of specific HO-1 modulation as a potential therapeutic strategy in experimental cell culture and animal models of these gastrointestinal disorders are summarized. In conclusion, targeted regulation of HO-1 holds major promise for future clinical interventions in inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

The stochastic Galerkin and stochastic collocation method are two state-ofthe-art methods for solving partial differential equations(PDE)containing random *** the latter method,which is based on sampling,can straightforwardly be applied to nonlinear stochastic PDEs,this is nontrivial for the stochastic Galerkin method and approximations are *** this paper,both methods are used for constructing high-order solutions of a nonlinear stochastic PDE representing the magnetic vector potential in a ferromagnetic rotating *** model can be used for designing solid-rotor induction machines in various machining tools.A precise design requires to take ferromagnetic saturation effects into account and uncertainty on the nonlinear magnetic material *** issues of the stochastic Galerkin method are addressed and a numerical comparison of the computational cost and accuracy of both methods is *** stochastic Galerkin method requires in general less stochastic unknowns than the stochastic collocation approach to reach a certain level of accuracy,however at a higher computational cost.

Looking back at over a decade of research by herself and her group,the author advocates the added value of gas phase measurements and the application of mass balances,as well as the synergetic benefits obtained when combining *** increased application of off-gas measurements for greenhouse gas emission monitoring offers a great opportunity to look at other components in the gas phase,particularly *** balances should not be strictly reserved for modellers but also prove useful while conducting lab experiments and studying full-scale measurement *** off-gas measurements with mass balances may serve not only to quantify greenhouse gas emission factors and aeration efficiency but also to follow dynamic concentration profiles of dissolved components without dedicated sensors and/or to calculate other unmeasured ***-balance-based data reconciliation allows for obtaining reliable and accurate data,and even more when combined with off-gas analysis.

Dear Editor, Medicago truncatula is a model legume that is conge- neric with alfalfa （Medicago sativa）, a forage crop of global importance. Over the last decade, tremendous genetic and genomic tools have been developed for this model system, which has greatly facilitated the study of various aspects of legume genomics and biology. From an applied perspective, genomic information gained from M. truncatula is particu- larly useful for genetic improvement of cultivated alfalfa, a crop that is not amenable to genetic analysis because of its allogamous and autotetraploid nature （Yang et al., 2008）. Background Mastitis caused by multiple factors remains one of the most common and costly disease of the dairy ***-omics approaches enable the comprehensive investigation of the complex interactions between mul-tiple layers of information to provide a more holistic view of disease ***,this study investigated the genomic and epigenomic signatures and the possible regulatory mechanisms underlying subclinical mastitis by integrating RNA sequencing data(mRNA and lncRNA),small RNA sequencing data(miRNA)and DNA methylation sequencing data of milk somatic cells from 10 healthy cows and 20 cows with naturally occurring subclinical mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Staphylococcus *** Functional investigation of the data sets through gene set analysis uncovered 3458 biological process GO terms and 170 KEGG pathways with altered activities during subclinical mastitis,provided further insights into subclin-ical mastitis and revealed the involvement of multi-omics signatures in the altered immune responses and impaired mammary gland productivity during subclinical *** abundant genomic and epigenomic signatures with sig-nificant alterations related to subclinical mastitis were observed,including 30,846,2552,1276 and 57 differential methylation haplotype blocks(dMHBs),differentially expressed genes(DEGs),lncRNAs(DELs)and miRNAs(DEMs),***,5 factors presenting the principal variation of differential multi-omics signatures were *** important roles of Factor 1(DEG,DEM and DEL)and Factor 2(dMHB and DEM),in the regulation of immune defense and impaired mammary gland functions during subclinical mastitis were *** of the omics within Factors 1 and 2 explained about 20%of the source of variation in subclinical ***,networks of impor-tant functional gene sets with the involvement of multi-omics signatures were demonstrated,which contributed to a comprehensive view of the possible regu
