Identifying the measurements required to estimate rates of COVID-19 transmission, infection, and detection, using variational data assimilation

We demonstrate the ability of statistical data assimilation(SDA)to identify the measurements required for accurate state and parameter estimation in an epidemiological model for the novel coronavirus disease *** context is an effort to inform policy regarding social behavior,to mitigate strain on hospital *** model unknowns are taken to be:the time-varying transmission rate,the fraction of exposed cases that require hospitalization,and the time-varying detection probabilities of new asymptomatic and symptomatic *** simulations,we obtain estimates of undetected(that is,unmeasured)infectious populations,by measuring the detected cases together with the recovered and dead-and without assumed knowledge of the detection *** a noiseless measurement of the recovered population,excellent estimates of all quantities are obtained using a temporal baseline of 101 days,with the exception of the time-varying transmission rate at times prior to the implementation of social *** low noise added to the recovered population,accurate state estimates require a lengthening of the temporal baseline of *** of all parameters are sensitive to the contamination,highlighting the need for accurate and uniform methods of *** aim of this paper is to exemplify the power of SDA to determine what properties of measurements will yield estimates of unknown parameters to a desired precision,in a model with the complexity required to capture important features of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Commitment to Promoting a Culture of Equity in Quebec Secondary Schools: Insights from School Stakeholders - A Secondary Publication

This paper presents the results of a research project on the intercultural climate in schools and the academic success of immigrant students in *** intercultural climate in eight secondary public schools is documented from the standpoint of various school and community stakeholders,students,and *** specifically,the paper focuses on the commitment to promoting cultural equity,which is identified through interviews with the targeted stakeholders on exclusionary practices and processes and the practices implemented to counter *** results identify five areas of vulnerability among certain minoritized groups of students:the transition from welcoming to regular classes for those students learning French,evaluation and support for those experiencing learning or behavioral difficulties,the referral of these students to adult education programs or work-oriented training programs,their participation in extracurricular activities,and their access to special school ***,some schools do report the introduction of many equity practices in response to the exclusionary ***,these initiatives are mostly occasional and voluntary and pertain to interactions between *** findings call for a discussion on the importance of systemic and concerted initiatives towards achieving equity.

为改善视黄醇(Retinol)的皮肤刺激性和稳定性问题,通过Retinol和10-羟基硬脂酸(10-HAS)的组合以及纳米载体技术,制备得到了粒径大小约75 nm的视黄醇组合物纳米载体ProVA,对比研究了纳米载体在胶原蛋白数量方面的提升效果,并对ProVA的稳定性能进行了考察研究。结果表明,ProVA具有优良的耐热稳定性能,在皮肤重复性开放型涂抹试验中未发现皮肤不良反应;其次,ProVA在视黄醇增效方面,通过体外细胞共培养模型论证了ProVA纳米载体较Retinol有明显的增效作用;在离体皮肤实验中,也进一步证明了ProVA对于UVB辐射造成的皮肤Ⅰ和Ⅲ型胶原蛋白流失有较好的回复效果;32位30~65岁有明显皱纹女性在日用添加量为0.2%ProVA的百雀羚帧颜淡纹修护精华霜后,可有效淡化细纹和皱纹,增强皮肤紧致度和弹性。以上表明ProVA为日化产品中理想的抗老原料,应用前景广阔。

Spinal cord injury(SCI)is a severe damage usually leading to limb dysesthesia,motor dysfunction,and other physiological *** have previously shown that NT3-chitosan could trigger an acute SCI repairment in rats and non-human *** to the negative effect of inhibitory molecules in glial scar on axonal regeneration,however,the role of NT3-chitosan in the treatment of chronic SCI remains *** with the fresh wound of acute SCI,how to handle the lesion core and glial scars is a major issue related to chronic-SCI *** we report,in a chronic complete SCI rat model,establishment of magnetic resonancediffusion tensor imaging(MR-DTI)methods to monitor spatial and temporal changes of the lesion area,which matched well with anatomical *** of the lesion core via suction of cystic tissues and trimming of solid scar tissues before introducing NT3-chitosan using either a rigid tubular scaffold or a soft gel form led to robust neural regeneration,which interconnected the severed ascending and descending axons and accompanied with electrophysiological and motor functional *** contrast,cystic tissue extraction without scar trimming followed by NT3-chitosan injection,resulted in little,if any *** together,after lesion core clearance,NT3-chitosan can be used to enable chronic-SCI repair and MR-DTI-based mapping of lesion area and monitoring of ongoing regeneration can potentially be implemented in clinical studies for subacute/chronic-SCI repair.

Analysis of the effects of donor and recipient hepatitis C infection on kidney transplant outcomes in the United States

BACKGROUND As Hepatitis C virus infection(HCV+)rates in kidney donors and transplant recipients rise,direct-acting antivirals(DAA)may affect *** To analyze the effects of HCV+in donors,recipients,or both,on deceased-donor(DD)kidney transplantation(KT)outcomes,and the impact of DAAs on those *** The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network data of adult first solitary DD-KT recipients 1994-2019 were allocated into four groups by donor and recipient HCV+*** performed patient survival(PS)and death-censored graft survival(DCGS)pairwise comparisons after propensity score matching to assess the effects of HCV+in donors and/or recipients,stratifying our study by DAA era to evaluate potential effect *** Pre-DAA,for HCV+recipients,receiving an HCV+kidney was associated with 1.28-fold higher mortality(HR 1.151.281.42)and 1.22-fold higher death-censored graft failure(HR 1.***.221.39)compared to receiving an HCV-kidney and the absolute risk difference was 3.3%(95%CI:1.8%-4.7%)for PS and 3.1%(95%CI:1.2%-5%)for DCGS at 3 *** HCV dual-infection(donor plus recipient)group had worse PS(0.56-fold)and DCGS(0.71-fold)than the *** HCV+derived worse post-transplant outcomes than recipient HCV+(PS 0.36-fold,DCGS 0.34-fold).In the DAA era,the risk associated with HCV+in donors and/or recipients was no longer statistically significant,except for impaired PS in the dual-infected vs dual-uninfected(0.43-fold).CONCLUSION Prior to DAA introduction,donor HCV+negatively influenced kidney transplant outcomes in all recipients,while recipient infection only relatively impaired outcomes for uninfected *** adverse effects disappeared with the introduction of DAA.

Dosimetric Effects of a Commercial Breast Board Patient Support System

Aim: In prone breast treatments, a carbon fiber support device resides under the contralateral breast. Tangent beams are designed to encompass the treated breast and these often pass through the board at a shallow angle, resulting in significant attenuation. Our planners account for this attenuation by adding field-in-field dose to the deep part of the breast, through the board. Concern was raised about how accurate the treatment delivery is when the inherent uncertainties of patients’ positions are accounted for. Furthermore, transmission measurements are usually carried out perpendicular to the board, a non-clinical situation. The goal of this study is to evaluate the dosimetric effect of the board and the robustness of the plan to positional uncertainty. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two breast patients treated on a commercial prone breast board between 2017 and 2020 were selected for this retrospective study. To evaluate the board’s attenuation, we compared the plans with the board removed from the dose calculation. To quantify the robustness of this technique, we moved the beam isocenter with respect to the patient and board. Results: Our results showed that when the breast board is removed from a plan which was designed to account for the board attenuation, the average point dose increases by 7.48%, with a maximum of 22%. Comparing results with a mixed Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and a least-square means analysis, our robustness evaluation indicates that anterior shifts at every magnitude (1 mm through 5 mm) make a significant difference in all dose statistics (D95, max, 95% prescription coverage and homogeneity index) investigated. In/out and right/left shifts resulted in an insignificant change in dose statistics. Conclusion: Prone breast boards can add significant dosimetric uncertainty into the treatment delivery process.
