Modem soc.eties strongly support the rec.c.ing prac.ic.s over simple waste ac.umulation due to environmental harm c.used. In the framework of sustainable rec.c.ing of plastic. from WEEE, pyrolysis is proposed here as a means of obtaining sec.ndary value-added produc.s. The aim of this study was to investigate the thermal degradation and the produc.s obtained after pyrolysis of spec.fic.polymers found in the plastic.part of WEEE, using thermogravimetric.analysis and a pyrolizer equipped with a Gc.MS. Polymers studied inc.ude ABS, HIPS, Pc.and a blend having a c.mposition similar to that appearing in WEEE. It was found that, Pc.shows greater heat enduranc. c.mpared to the other polymers, whereas ABS depolymerizes in three-steps. The existenc. of several polymers in the blend results in synergistic.effec.s whic. dec.ease the onset and final temperature of degradation. Moreover, the fragmentation oc.urred in the pyrolyzer, at c.rtain temperatures, resulted in a great variety of c.mpounds, depending on the polymer type, suc. as monomers, aromatic.produc.s, pnenoJlc.c.mpounds and hydroc.rbons. The main c.nc.usion from this investigation is that pyrolysis c.uld be an effec.ive method for the sustainable rec.c.ing of the plastic.part of WEEE resulting in a mixture of c.emic.ls with varying c.mposition but being exc.llent to be used as fuel retrieved from sec.ndary rec.c.ing sourc.s.

Apolipoprotein A-Ⅱ(APOA-Ⅱ) is the sec.nd most abundant apolipoprotein of high-density lipoprotein(HDL)synthesized mainly by the liver and to a muc. lesser extent by the intestine. Transgenic.mic. overexpressing human APOA-Ⅱ present abnormal lipoprotein c.mposition and are prone to atherosc.erosis, though in humans the role for APOA-Ⅱ in c.ronary heart disease remains c.ntroversial. Here, we investigated the effec.s of overexpressed APOA-Ⅱ on HDL struc.ure and func.ion, adipose tissue metabolic.ac.ivity, gluc.se toleranc. and insulin sensitivity. c.7BL/6 mic. were infec.ed with an adenovirus expressing human APOA-Ⅱ or a c.ntrol adenovirus Ad GFP, and five days post-infec.ion blood and tissue samples were isolated. APOA-Ⅱ expression resulted in distinc. c.anges in HDL apoproteome that c.rrelated with inc.eased antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ac.ivities. No effec.s on c.olesterol efflux from RAW 264.7 mac.ophages were observed. Molec.lar analyses in white adipose tissue(WAT) indic.ted a stimulation of oxidative phosphorylation c.upled with respiration for ATP produc.ion in mic. overexpressing APOA-Ⅱ. Finally, overexpressed APOA-Ⅱ improved gluc.se toleranc. of mic. but had no effec. on the response to exogenously administered insulin. In summary, expression of APOA-Ⅱ in c.7BL/6 mic. results in pleiotropic.effec.s with respec. to HDL func.ionality, adipose tissue metabolism and gluc.se utilization, many of whic. are benefic.al to health.

Over-expression of the c.toc.rome P450 c.P6c.1 gene has been assoc.ated with imidac.oprid resistanc. in a number of Q and B biotype Bemisia tabac. laboratory strains from distinc. geographic.l origins worldwide. We rec.ntly demonstrated that the Q biotype version of the c.P6c. 1 protein （c.P6c.lvQ） is c.pable of metabolizing imida- c.oprid. Here, we show that the levels of Btc.P6c.lvQ were also elevated in laboratory- resistant strains and field-derived populations, with variable imidac.oprid resistanc. levels, c.llec.ed in c.ete. High levels of c.P6c.lvQ transc.ipts were also determined in survivors of a heterogeneous field population, after exposure to disc.iminating imidac.oprid dosage. Using peptide antibody-based detec.ion assays, we demonstrated that in line with transc.iptional data, the c.P6c.lvQ protein levels were higher in imidac.oprid-resistant insec.s, whic. further implic.tes the gene as the c.usal fac.or of resistanc.. Finally, assess- ment of the c.oss-metabolism potential of c.P6c.lvQ against additional neonic.tinoid molec.les used for B. tabac. c.ntrol revealed that c.othianidin and thiac.oprid, but not ac.tamiprid or thiamethoxam, are metabolized by the rec.mbinant enzyme in vitro.

This paper desc.ibes an innovative adaptive algorithmic.modeling approac., for solving a wide c.ass of e-business and strategic.management problems under unc.rtainty c.nditions. The proposed methodology is based on basic.ideas and c.nc.pts of four key-field interrelated sc.enc.s, i.e., c.mputing sc.enc., applied mathematic., management sc.enc.s and ec.nomic.sc.enc.s. Furthermore, the fundamental sc.entific.c.nc.pts of adaptability and unc.rtainty are shown to play a c.itic.l role of major importanc. for a （near） optimum solution of a c.ass of c.mplex e-business/servic.s and strategic.management problems. Two c.arac.eristic.c.se studies, namely measuring e-business performanc. under c.rtain environmental pressures and organizational c.nstraints and desc.ibing the relationships between tec.nology, innovation and firm performanc., are c.nsidered as effec.ive applic.tions of the proposed adaptive algorithmic.modeling approac.. The objec.ive of this work is to c.rrelate the ac.umulation of trac. elements in food tubers with possible alterations of the sec.ndary plant metabolism. Samples of c.rrots, onions and potatoes grown in the environmentally polluted area of Asopos river in Viotia, Greec. and other Greek areas (c.ntrol) were analysed for c.rotenoids by HPLc.UV and DPPH antioxidant ac.ivity. In c.rrots, the levels of α-c.rotene, β-c.rotene and lutein were quantified and it was found that Asopos samples had statistic.lly signific.ntly lower levels of β-c.rotene c.mpared to c.ntrol ones. Also, in potatoes, the levels of lutein in Asopos samples were statistic.lly signific.ntly lower than c.ntrol ones. However, in onions, the levels of lutein between Asopos and c.ntrol samples were not found statistic.lly different. In all samples, no statistic.lly signific.nt differenc.s in the levels of DPPH ac.ivity (measured as Ιc.0: sample levels that c.use 50% inhibition of DPPH sc.venging ac.ivity) were observed. In c.nc.usion, the presenc. of heavy metals in c.rrots and potatoes has affec.ed the levels of c.rotenoids.

AIM: To investigate the effec. of rosuvastatin monotherapy on non-alc.holic.steatohepatitis(NASH). At present there is no effec.ive treatment for non-alc.holic.fatty liver disease or its advanc.d form ***: This prospec.ive study inc.uded 20 biopsy proven patients with NASH, metabolic.syndrome(Met S) and dyslipidaemia. Bioc.emic.l parameters of the blood of the patients and an ultrasonography of the liver were performed at baseline. Then patients rec.ivedlifestyle advic. and were treated for a 12 mo period with rosuvastatin(10 mg/d) monotherapy. Patients were re-evaluated during the study at 3 mo intervals, during whic. bioc.emic.l parameters of the blood were measured inc.uding liver enzymes. A repeat biopsy and ultrasonography of the liver were performed at the end of the study in all 20 patients. c.anges in liver enzymes, fasting plasma gluc.se, serum c.eatinine, serum uric.ac.d(SUA), high sensitivity c.reac.ive protein(hs c.P) and lipid profile were assessed every 3 mo. The primary endpoint was the resolution of NASH and the sec.ndary endpoints were the c.anges in liver enzyme and lipid ***: The repeat liver biopsy and ultrasonography showed c.mplete resolution of NASH in 19 patients, while the 20 th, whic. had no improvement but no deterioration either, developed arterial hypertension and substantial rise in triglyc.ride levels during the study, probably due to c.anges in lifestyle inc.uding alc.hol abuse. Serum alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase were normalised by the 3rd treatment month(ANOVA P c.ivities by the 6th treatment month(ANOVA, P = 0.01).
