High-throughput crop phenotyping,particularly under field conditions,is nowadays perceived as a key factor limiting crop genetic *** not only facilitates conventional breeding,but it is necessary to fully exploit the capabilities of molecular breeding,and it can be exploited to predict breeding targets for the years ahead at the regional level through more advanced simulation models and decision support *** terms of phenotyping,it is necessary to determined which selection traits are relevant in each situation,and which phenotyping tools/methods are available to assess such *** sensing methodologies are currently the most popular approaches,even when lab-based analyses are still relevant in many *** top of that,data processing and automation,together with machine learning/deep learning are contributing to the wide range of applications for *** review addresses spectral and red-green-blue sensing as the most popular remote sensing approaches,alongside stable isotope composition as an example of a lab-based tool,and root phenotyping,which represents one of the frontiers for field ***,we consider the two most promising forms of aerial platforms(unmanned aerial vehicle and satellites)and some of the emerging data-processing *** review includes three Boxes that examine specific case studies.

Severe Acute Hepatitis of Unknown Origin in Children: What Do We Know Today?

In May 2022, the UK International Health Regulations National Focal Point notified World Health Organization of 176 cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children under 10 years of age. From that moment on, cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children began to be reported in several countries. As of June 17, 2022, a total of 991 cases had been reported in 35 countries worldwide, 50 children needed a liver transplant and 28 patients died. According to information published by ECDC, 449 cases have been detected in 21 EU countries. The children were between 1 month and 16 years of age. Adenovirus was detected in 62.2% of the analyzed samples. So far, the cause of these cases is unknown and many hypotheses remain open, but hepatitis A-E viruses and COVID-19 vaccines have been ruled out. A possible hypothesis has been published to explain the cause of these cases of severe hepatitis, according to which it could be a consequence of adenovirus infection in the intestine in healthy children previously infected with SARS-CoV-2. No other clear epidemiological risk factors have been identified to date. Thus, at this time, the etiology of the current cases of hepatitis remains under active investigation.

In the context of China Going Global,this paper seeks to evaluate the degree of implication that the European Union（EU）has in the Chinese-led One Belt One Road（OBOR）.In order to assess the success or failure of the Beijing’s project,the role of the EU in-and towards-it is *** the OBOR unfolds its full potential,it would represent a change of paradigm in the global governance *** Sino-EU political relations are of three kinds:The "fragmented" one,where the member states,as individual agents,and China have their own bilateral agreements.A second kind of relations where Brussels（EU as a political unity）and Beijing interact as great powers in a bilateral or multilateral *** the third and most recent kind of relation,the "16+1" *** multilateral format,established in 2012,coordinates sixteen Central and Eastern European countries（CEEC）with the Middle Kingdom in a given cooperation *** of the three kinds of Sino-EU relations the "16+1" format stands up as a singular case and this is so because it is the only one that,although being within the legal umbrella of the EU,brings together European states,substantial number of which belong to the Union,without the supervision of Brussels,in relation with a third *** this situation,and leaving aside the "fragmented" kind of relations,the paper’s hypothesis states that the Sino-Brussels（R1）and the Sino-CEEC（R2）relations are not consistent with a unified EU foreign scope of *** order to carry on with the comparison,the paper proceeds by analyzing the scope of Brussels’ Foreign Policy towards China and contrasting it with the agreements that have been reached within the "16+1"*** a result of the research,the thesis validates the hypothesis by asserting that there is a qualitative difference in the nature of the Rl and R2 *** reason for the inconsistency has been identified in the CEEC lack of commitment with the notion of Normative Power *** inconsistency

Carbon nanodots:A metal-free,easy-to-synthesize,and benign emitter for light-emitting electrochemical cells

Light-emitting electrochemical cells(LECs)can be fabricated with cost-efficient printing and coating methods,but a current drawback is that the LEC emitter is commonly either a rare-metal complex or an expensive-to-synthesize conjugated ***,we address this issue through the pioneering employment of metal-free and facile-to-synthesize carbon nanodots(CNDs)as the emitter in functional LEC ***-shaped(average diameter=4.4 nm)and hydrophilic CNDs,which exhibit narrow cyan photoluminescence(peak=485 nm,full width at half maximum=30 nm)with a high quantum yield of 77%in dilute ethanol solution,were synthesized with a catalyst-free,one-step solvothermal process using low-cost and benign phloroglucinol as the sole starting *** propensity of the planar CNDs to form emission-quenching aggregates in the solid state was inhibited by the inclusion of a compatible 2,7-bis(diphenylphosphoryl)-9,9’-spirobifluorene host compound,and we demonstrate that such pristine host-guest CND-LECs turn on to a peak luminance of 118 cd·m^(−2)within 5 s during constant current-density driving at 77 mA·cm^(−2).

Thou shalt not get fat: Medical representations and self-images of obesity in a Mediterranean society

This paper examines the link between lipophobia and representations and experiences of obesity in Catalonia (Spain) from two points of view: that of the physicians and other health professionals who diagnose and treat obesity as an illness, and that of their patients, especially those between adolescence and early adulthood. The qualitative data demonstrate that the increasing social rejection of fat people can be traced not only to moralizing discourses on “excessive” food consumption or the commodification of slenderness and health, but also to the recent definition of obesity as a disease. The medicalization of fatness, far from helping to destigmatize obesity, is becoming a way of resignifying it in moral terms. While doctors’ and patients’ perspectives diverge in some ways, they converge in others. In this text, I focus on the points of convergence arguing that biomedical understandings of obesity and overweight are characterized by a profound ambivalence. Young patients are regarded both as innocent victims of a permissive consumer society, and guilty of not following doctors’ orders. Although the family is held accountable for overweight or obesity in children, as young people become more independent, guilt is individualized and environmental causes are limited to inappropriate diet and insufficient exercise. Most narratives of young people with weight problems reflect similar ideas about the causes and the responsibility for obesity. Their acceptance of the basic premise that deviating from weight standards and rules for healthy eating are voluntary actions leads them to lose faith in themselves. The stigmatization of obesity thus becomes a vicious circle: the obese acceptance—even consider normal—the incriminations leveled at them, and blame themselves for their situation and their inability to prevent it.

Effects of Pregnancy and Delivery in Women with Previous Surgery for Stress Urinary Incontinence with Suburethral Band: A Bibliographic Review

The continence status and the most adequate form of delivery were assessed in pregnant women who had a suburethral band to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI). A group of 57 women selected from different articles published between 2000 and 2014 were reviewed. These women had become pregnant after having undergone a suburethral band procedure. Different aspects such as age, parity, type of band, time elapsed between the procedure and the pregnancy, SUI during pregnancy and after delivery, and the form of delivery were evaluated, as well as the possible relationship with the recurrence of SUI and the emergence of complications associated with the suburethral during pregnancy. A case of a complication related to a suburethral band was found in one patient who developed an episode of pyelonephritis and intermittent urethral obstruction which required a Foley catheter. Thirty patients had cesarean section while 27 had vaginal deliveries;12 patients had incontinence during pregnancy and 15 suffered from it after delivery. Postpartum SUI in relation with the delivery form did not show statistically relevant differences between the cesarean section group and the vaginal delivery group. It was observed that the emergence of SUI during pregnancy was a risk factor for the onset of postpartum SUI (OR = 6.47;p = 0.0137). The risk of developing postpartum SUI seems similar regardless the delivery form, thus it is plausible to recommend vaginal delivery to these patients. If there was a recurrence of SUI, a second suburethral band could be placed which would be as effective as the first one and would involve a lower risk surgery compared to a cesarean section.

Incident frailty and cognitive impairment by heart failure status in older patients with atrial fibrillation: the SAGE-AF study

Background Atrial fibrillation(AF) and heart failure(HF) frequently co-occur in older individuals. Among patients with AF, HF increases risks for stroke and death, but the associations between HF and incident cognition and physical impairment remain unknown. We aimed to examine the cross-sectional and prospective associations between HF, cognition, and frailty among older patients with AF. Methods The SAGE-AF(Systematic Assessment of Geriatric Elements in AF) study enrolled 1244 patients with AF(mean age 76 years, 48% women) from five practices in Massachusetts and Georgia. HF at baseline was identified from electronic health records using ICD-9/10 codes. At baseline and 1-year, frailty was assessed by Cardiovascular Health Survey score and cognition was assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Results Patients with prevalent HF(n = 463, 37.2%) were older, less likely to be non-Hispanic white, had less education, and had greater cardiovascular comorbidity burden and higher CHA2 DS2 VASC and HAS-BLED scores than patients without HF(all P's evalent frailty(adjusted odds ratio [a OR]: 2.38, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.64-3.46) and incident frailty at 1 year(a OR: 2.48, 95% CI: 1.37-4.51). HF was also independently associated with baseline cognitive impairment(a OR: 1.60, 95% CI: 1.22-2.11), but not with developing cognitive impairment at 1 year(a OR 1.04, 95%CI: 0.64-1.70). Conclusions Among ambulatory older patients with AF, the co-existence of HF identifies individuals with physical and cognitive impairments who are at higher short-term risk for becoming frail. Preventive strategies to this vulnerable subgroup merit consideration.
