From.variom. to phenom.:Pathogenesis,diagnosis and m.nagem.nt of ectopic m.neralization disorders

Ectopic m.neralization- inappropriate biom.neralization in soft tissues- is a frequent finding in physiological aging processes and several com.on disorders, which can be associated with significant m.rbidity and m.rtality. Further, pathologic m.neralization is seen in several rare genetic disorders, which often present life-threatening phenotypes. These disorders are classified based on the m.chanism. through which the m.neralization occurs: m.tastatic or dystrophic calcification or ectopic ossification. Underlying m.chanism. have been extensively studied, which resulted in several hypotheses regarding the etiology of m.neralization in the extracellular m.trix of soft tissue. These hypotheses include intracellular and extracellular m.chanism., such as the form.tion of m.trix vesicles, aberrant osteogenic and chondrogenic signaling, apoptosis and oxidative stress. Though coherence between the different findings is not always clear, current insights have led to im.rovem.nt of the diagnosis and m.nagem.nt of ectopic m.neralization patients, thus translating pathogenetic knowledge(variom.) to the phenotype(phenom.). In this review, we will focus on the clinical presentation, pathogenesis and m.nagem.nt of prim.ry genetic soft tissue m.neralization disorders. As exam.les of dystrophic calcification disorders Pseudoxanthom. elasticum. Generalized arterial calcification of infancy, Keutel syndrom., Idiopathic basal ganglia calcification and Arterial calcification due to CD73(NT5E) deficiency will be discussed. Hyperphosphatem.c fam.lial tum.ral calcinosis will be reviewed as an exam.le of m.neralization disorders caused by m.tastatic calcification.

Background: Today m.st guidelines on the m.nagem.nt of type 2 diabetes incorporate lifestyle intervention including patient education, physical activity and dietary m.dification. However, the content and organization of lifestyle intervention program. are still debatable. Aim.: To com.are the longer term.effectiveness of a group-based rehabilitation program.with an individual counseling program.at im.roving glycem.c control, cardiovascular risk factors and quality of life am.ng type 2 diabetes patients. m.thods: We random.zed 143 type 2 diabetes patients to either a 6-m.nth group-based rehabilitation program. including patient education, supervised exercise, and diet intervention, or a 6-m.nth individual counseling program. Follow-up tim. was 12 m.nths after baseline. Outcom. m.asures were glycated hem.globin (HbA1c), cardiovascular risk factors, quality-of-life and self-rated health. Results: In the rehabilitation group, HbA1c decreased 0.2%-point (95% confidence interval [CI] = -0.4, -0.03), systolic blood pressure decreased 6 m.Hg (95% CI = -9.3, -2.5), diastolic blood pressure decreased 4 m.Hg (95% CI = -6.3, -2.4), weight decreased 2.2 kg (95% CI = -3.2, -1.3), and waist circum.erence decreased 2.0 cm.(95% CI = -2.9, -1.1). In the individual group, HbA1c decreased 0.4% (95% CI = -0.6, -0.1), systolic blood pressure decreased 3 m.Hg (95% CI = -6.3, -0.7), diastolic blood pressure decreased 3 m.Hg (95% CI = -4.7, -0.7), weight decreased 1.6 kg (95% CI = -2.6, -.7]), and waist circum.erence decreased 1.6 cm.(95% CI = -2.5, -0.6). Vitality, fatigue distress, physical functioning and cardiovascular distress im.roved over tim. (P m.ined. Repeated m.asurem.nt analysis did not result in significant differences between the groups of any outcom.. Our aim.was to determ.ne the long-term.effect of a m.lching treatm.nt on copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni) uptake by tree seedlings (Pinus sylvestris L. and Betula pubescens Ehrh.) from.sm.lter-polluted forest soil in southwesternFinland. A m.lch cover spread onto polluted barren soil did not have a clear positive im.act on the biom.ss production and it did not decrease m.tal uptake by planted tree seedlings during a ten-year study period. In contrast, the Cu uptake by the above-ground parts of birch was increased as a result of m.lching, although there were weak indications of slightly reduced availability of Cu and Ni to roots in the case of both species. As Cu and Ni concentrations of foliage and bark have been shown to be strongly affected by surface deposited m.tal containing aerosols, only the woody com.artm.nts were used as indicators of m.tal uptake from.soil. The Cu:Ni ratios of woody com.artm.nts were lower than those predicted by the Cu:Ni ratios of soil suggesting that the soil extraction m.thod used gives an underestim.tion of available Ni in relation to Cu. The lower soil Niexch concentrations on the m.lched plots com.ared to the controls were in agreem.nt with the slightly lower root Ni concentrations in the m.lch treatm.nts.

The Al tolerance of newly developed wheat/barley disom.c addition, substitution and translocation lines carry chrom.som.s of three different barley cultivars was evaluated by com.aring the root growth in solution containing 75 μm.AlCl3 at pH 4.0 to that of known Al-tolerant and sensitive wheat genotypes. The wheat Asakaze kom.gi, barley m.nas cultivars and their hybrid derivatives were found to have high levels of Al tolerance. The wheat line m.9kr1, barley cultivar Igri and progenies of the hybrids were sensitive to Al. In m.st cases, the Al tolerance of the wheat/barley introgression lines derived from.Al-sensitive wheat m.9kr1 and barley Betzes with m.derate Al tolerance was sim.lar to that of the wheat parents, but the 2DS.2DL-1HS translocation line of m.9kr1/Betzes exhibited m.re intensive root growth, while accum.lating less Al than the parental lines. This indicates that either the lack of the distal part of chrom.som. 2DL or the presence of the distal part of 1HS im.roved the Al tolerance level.

This study contributes with the first data on physical and taxonom.cal structure of m.crofaunal assem.lages of m.erl beds from.the Canary Islands. m.erl beds and Cym.docea nodosa m.adows of the Canary Islands are considered biodiversity hot-spots in term. of taxonom.c and functional biodiversity with a broad geographical and depth ranges. The authors have studied the structure of the m.crofaunal assem.lages on different habitat types （Cym.docea, Caulerpa, sabellid field, garden eel and m.erl beds）. Sam.les were taken at a range of depths between 14 and 46 m. Correlations were perform.d am.ng abiotic variables （granulom.try, organic m.tter, nitrogen and phosphates） and the m.st abundant taxa. Sim.larity analysis was perform.d to explore the patchiness of seabeds at a local scale. Significant differences were found in m.crofaunal assem.lages am.ng seabed types, with highest abundances and lowest biodiversity in sabellid fields, where the sabellid Bispira viola dom.nated. The polychaetes Aponuphis bilineata and Chone filicauda and the m.llusc Turritella brochii were the m.st abundant taxa on m.erl beds. The m.saic of granulom.tric conditions would explain the associated m.croinfaunal com.unity structure and contribute to the creation of diversity on these relatively well preserved seabeds at a local scale.

BACKGROUND Preoperative biliary drainage in patients with presum.d resectable perihilar cholangiocarcinom.(PHC)is hypothesized to prom.te the occurrence of seeding *** m.tastases can occur at the surgical scars or at the site of postoperative drains,and in case of percutaneous biliary drainage,at the catheter *** prevent seeding m.tastases after resection,we routinely treated PHC patients with preoperative radiotherapy(RT)for over 25 years until January *** To investigate the incidence of seeding m.tastases following resection of *** All patients who underwent resection for pathology proven PHC between January 2000 and m.rch 2019 were included in this retrospective *** 2000-January 2018,patients received preoperative RT(3×3.5 Gray).RT was om.tted in patients treated after January *** A total of 171 patients underwent resection for PHC between January 2000 and m.rch *** 171 patients undergoing resection,111 patients(65%)were treated with preoperative *** bile cytology showed no difference in the presence of viable tum.r cells in bile of patients undergoing preoperative RT or ***,two patients(1.2%)with seeding m.tastases were identified,both in the laparotom. scar and both after preoperative RT(one patient with endoscopic and the other with percutaneous and endoscopic biliary drainage).CONCLUSION The incidence of seeding m.tastases in patients with resected PHC in our series was low(1.2%).This low incidence and the inability of providing evidence that preoperative low-dose RT prevents seeding m.tastases,has led us to discontinue preoperative RT in patients with resectable PHC in our center.

Purpose: The present study evaluated the effects of regular participation in sm.ll-sided team.handball training on body com.osition, osteogenic response, physical perform.nce, and cardiovascular risk factors, as well as well-being and m.tivation, in young untrained ***: Twenty-eight untrained 20- to 30-year-old wom.n were random.zed to a handball training group(HG; n = 14, height 170 ± 5 cm. weight 73 ± 11 kg, VO_(2peak) 37.7 ± 4.1 m./m.n/kg) that trained 1.7 ± 0.3 tim.s per week over 12 weeks(70 m.n 4 v 4 handball sessions) or an inactive control group(CG; n = 14, 169 ± 5 cm. 71 ± 12 kg, 38.1 ± 3.7 m./m.n/kg). Physiological and psychological and m.tivational training adaptations were assessed pre-and post-intervention by dual-energy X-ray Absorptiom.try(DXA) scans, blood sam.ling, physical tests, and ***: The average heart rate(HR) over all training sessions was equal to 85% ± 6% HR_(m.x). Between-group intervention effects were observed in favor of HG for m.scle m.ss(2.1%, p = 0.024), proxim.l fem.r bone m.neral density(0.8%, p = 0.041), Yo-Yo IE1 interm.ttent endurance test level 1(IE1) perform.nce(35%, p m.ntal treadm.ll test perform.nce(11.5%, p = 0.003), but not total fat m.ss(p = 0.176),m.an arterial blood pressure(p = 0.328), resting HR(p = 0.219), or blood lipids(p = 0.298—0.854). In CG, no changes were observed in any of the m.asured physiological variables after the training period. Com.ared to CG, HG had an increase in intrinsic m.tivation(p m.handball training organized as sm.ll-sided gam.s has m.rked beneficial effects on physical perform.nce, m.sculoskeletal fitness, well-being, and m.tivation in untrained young wom.n.
