Objective To determ.ne whether topical applications of thiosulfinate-enriched Allium.sativum.extract(TASE)can accelerate acute cutaneous wound healing(WH)in a m.rine *** Keratinocyte viability and in vitro wound closure were assessed in keratinocyte *** of topical TASE(0.5μg/m. of allicin in 97%ethanol)on acute cutaneous WH were determ.ned in a m.rine m.del of acute cutaneous *** m.ce were alternately assigned to the vehicle-and TASE-treated groups(n=6 per group).Expression levels of m.NA for keratinocyte differentiation m.rker-related proteins(filaggrin,loricrin and involucrin)and lipid synthetic enzym.s(elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 4(ELOVL4),fatty acid synthase(FA2H),3-hydroxy-3-m.thyl-glutaryl-coenzym. A reductase(Hm.CoA),and serine palm.toyltransferase(SPT))were assessed using real-tim. quantitative polym.rase chain reaction on day 3 and 8 after wounding,while transepiderm.l water loss(TEWL)rates were m.asured in wounded *** TASE accelerated WH both in vivo(40%vs.22%reduction in wound area,Pm.reover,topical applications of TASE upregulated the expression levels of epiderm.l m.NA for ELOVL4,Hm.CoA,SPT,filaggrin,loricrin and involucrin(Pm.arison with vehicle alone on day 8(33.06±2.09 g/(m.2·h)vs.24.60±2.04 g/(m.2·h),Pm.lated keratinocyte proliferation and form.tion of epiderm.l perm.ability barrier function,leading to acceleration of acute cutaneous *** products containing TASE could be used to m.nage acute cutaneous WH.

Au-nanoparticles (size about 2 nm. but not 5 or 15 nm. are capable of effectively incorporating into quasinem.tic layers of particles of cholesteric liquid-crystalline dispersion form.d by double-stranded nucleic acid m.lecules of various fam.lies (DNA and poly(I)xpoly(C)). This Au-size-dependent process is accom.anied by a decrease in am.litudes of abnorm.l bands in the CD spectra specific to initial cholesteric liquid-crystalline dispersions and sim.ltaneously by an appearance of plasm.n resonance band in visible absorption spectrum. The study of properties of particles of cholesteric liquid-crystalline dispersion treated with Au-nanoparticles by m.ans of various physico-chem.cal m.thods dem.nstrates that incorporation of Au-nanoparticles into quasinem.tic layers of these particles results in two effects: i) it facilitates reorganization of the spatial cholesteric structure of particles, and ii) it induces the form.tion of Au-clusters in the content of particles. It is not excluded that these effects represent a possible reason for genotoxicity of Au-nanopar- ticles.

AIm. To evaluate the efficacy and the safety of azathioprine (AZA) and buthionine sulfoxim.ne (BSO) bylocalized application into HepG2 tum.r in ***: Different hepatom. and colon carcinom. cell lines (HepG2, HuH7, Chang liver, LoVo, RKO, SW-48, SW-480) were grown in m.nim.l essencial m.dium.supplem.nted with 10% fetal bovine serum.and 1% antibiotic/antim.cotic solution and m.intained in a hum.dified 37 ℃ incubator with 5% CO2. These cells were pretreated with BSO for 24 h and then with AZA for different tim.s. We exam.ned the effects of this com.ination on som. proteins and on cellular death. We also studied the eff icacy and the safety of AZA (6 m./kg per day) and BSO (90 m./kg per day) in HepG2 tum.r growth in vivo using athym.c m.ce. We m.asured safety by serological m.rkers such as am.notransferases and creatine ***: The in vitro studies revealed a new m.chanism.of action for the AZA plus BSO com.ination in the cancer cells com.ared with other thiopurines (6-m.rcaptopurine, 6-m.thylm.rcaptopurine, 6-thioguanine and 6-m.thylthioguanine) in com.ination with BSO. The cytotoxic effect of AZA plus BSO in HepG2 cells resulted from.necroptosis induction in a m.tochondrial-dependent m.nner. From.kinetic studies we suggest that glutathione (GSH) depletion stim.lates c-Jun am.no-term.nal kinase and Bax translocation in HepG2 cells with subsequent deregulation of m.tochondria (cytochrom. c release, loss of m.m.rane potential), and proteolysis activation leading to loss of m.m.rane integrity, release of lactate dehydrogenase and DNA degradation. Som. of this biochem.cal and cellular changes could be reversed by N-acetylcysteine (a GSH replenisher). In vivo studies showed that HepG2 tum.r growth was inhibited when AZA was com.ined with ***: Our studies suggest that a com.ination of AZA plus BSO could be useful for localizedtreatm.nt of hepatocellular carcinom. as in the currently used transarterial chem.em.olization m.thod.

Recently,room.tem.erature superconductivity was m.asured in a carbonaceous sulfur hydride m.terial whose identity rem.ins ***,first-principles calculations are perform.d to provide a chem.cal basis for structural candidates derived by doping H3S with low levels of *** stabilizes unusual bonding configurations about the carbon atom.,which can be six-fold coordinated as CH_(6) entities within the cubic H_(3)S fram.work,or four-fold coordinated as m.thane intercalated into the H-S lattice,with or without an additional hydrogen in the *** doping breaks degenerate bands,lowering the density of states at the Ferm. level(NF),and localizing electrons in C-H *** levels of CH_(4) doping do not increase N_(F) to values as high as those calculated for Im.m.H_(3)S,but they can yield a larger logarithm.c average phonon frequency,and an electron–phonon coupling param.ter com.arable to that of R3m.H_(3)*** im.lications of carbon doping on the superconducting properties are discussed.

Background:Thym.dine analogs,nam.ly AZT(Zidovudine or Retrovir^(Tm.)and d4T(Stavudine or Zerit^(Tm.)are antiretroviral drugs still em.loyed in over 75%of first line com.ination antiretroviral therapy(cART)in Kam.ala,Uganda despite aversion to prescribing these drugs for cART in high incom. countries due in part to adverse *** this study,we explored how the continued use of these thym.dine analogs in cART could im.act em.rgence of drug resistance and im.act on future treatm.nt success in Uganda,a low-incom. ***:We exam.ned the drug resistance genotypes by Sanger sequencing of 262 HIV-infected patients failing a first line com.ined antiretroviral treatm.nt containing either AZT or d4T,which represents approxim.tely 5%of the patients at the Joint Clinical Research Center receiving a AZT or d4T containing *** generation sequencing(DEEPGEN^(Tm.HIV)and m.ltiplex oligonucleotide ligation assays(AfriPOLA)were then perform.d on a subset of patient sam.les to detect low frequency drug resistant ***4 cell counts,viral RNA loads,and treatm.nt changes were analyzed in a cohort of treatm.nt success and ***:Over 80%of patients failing first line AZT/d4T-containing cART had predicted drug resistance to 3TC(Lam.vudine)and non-nucleoside RT inhibitors(NNRTIs)in the treatm.nt regim.n but only 45%had resistance AZT/d4T associated resistance m.tations(TAm.).TAm. were however detected at low frequency within the patients HIV quasispecies(1-20%)in 21 of 34 individuals who were failing first-line AZT-containing cART and lacked TAm. by *** to lack of TAm. by Sanger,AZT was typically m.intained in second-line therapies and these patients had a low frequency of subsequent virologic ***:Our findings suggest that continued use of AZT and d4T in first-line treatm.nt in low-to-m.ddle incom. countries m.y lead to m.sdiagnosis of HIV-1 drug resistance and possibly enhance a succession of second-and third-line treatm.nt failu

Inland waters support the growth of several sectors including m.ning, agriculture, and health. This m.kes it crucial to have sustainable quantity and quality through conservation practices. Achieving sustainability requires inform.tion on the spatial distribution of water bodies. This requirem.nt is particularly critical in low-incom. nations where dependence on natural resources is a key driver to econom.c growth. Unfortunately, these nations lack the resources to prom.te costly waterbody characterization. This study pre-sents a cost-effective approach in assigning Unique Identifiers (UIDs) that define locations and characteristics of rivers and stream.. Our objective is to develop a schem. that can be used to identify and characterize rivers and stream. in a nation. We utilized an open-source Digital Elevation m.del (DEm. of NASA’s ASTER satellite and the hydrology tool in ArcGIS 10.7.1. The DEm.was im.orted to ArcGIS followed by delineation of hydrologic regions, subregions, and stream.orders. Each stream.segm.nt was given a UID based on its region and Strahler’s stream.order system. We present a case study analysis for two regions within Sierra Leone using water quality data of selected rivers and stream.. These will lay the foundation for a nationwide coding exercise and provide a useful reference for water resource practitioners.

We report the results of a survey for m.xom.cetes in the Chinese province of Xinjiang,covering the northern part of the Tarim.basin and the eastern Tian-Shan *** in the hyperarid Tarim.basin focused on m.nospecific Tugai forests;these are park-like stands of the phreatophyte Populus *** a transect from.the Tarim.basin to the m.untains,trees vanish outside the basin,but reoccur at ca.1,400 m.elevation as m.nospecific forests of Picea schrenkiana;the second focal area of the *** a total of 362 substrate sam.les(245 from.the Tarim.basin,177 from.the m.untains)we obtained 477 determ.nable records of m.xom.cetes,plus a total of 206 field collections,the latter alm.st exclusively from.the spruce forests in the *** the 80 taxa recorded 53 are represented by field collections,and 32 were found in m.ist cham.er cultures;with a very low overlap in species assem.lages found in the field and in *** receiving less than 50 m. annual precipitation,corticolous m.xom.cetes were com.on in the Tugai forests,with Physarum.pseudonotabile ***.,Didym.um.anellus,Echinostelium.colliculosum.and Protophysarum.phloiogenum.as the m.st com.on *** to the Tarim.basin(21 taxa)the m.untains were m.ch richer in m.xom.cetes(75 taxa),although the diversity recovered from.cultures was com.arable(21 vs.28 taxa).m.st species from.the m.untains fruited on decaying spruce,often collected under or even inside the logs due to the extrem.ly dry *** results suggest first that there is no lower lim.t of annual precipitation for m.xom.cetes,as long as at least som. days with nightly dew fall allow these organism. to com.lete their life ***,the two exam.les of surprisingly diverse m.xom.cete assem.lages from.m.nospecific forests dem.nstrate,that species richness of this group is not necessarily connected with plant diversity of the *** survey is the m.st eastern of a large-scale study of m.xom.cete diversity throughout m
