Histidine decarboxylase and urinary methylimidazoleacetic acid in gastric neuroendocrine cells and tumours

AIM: to study histidine decarboxylase(HDC) expression in normal and neoplastic gastric neuroendocrine cells in relationship to the main histamine metabolite. MEtHODS: Control tissues from fundus(n = 3) and corpus(n = 3) mucosa of six patients undergoing operations for gastric adenocarcinoma, biopsy and/or gastric surgical specimens from 64 patients with primary gastric neuroendocrine tumours(GNEts), as well as metastases from 22 of these patients, were investigated using conventional immunohistochemistry and double immunofluorescence with commercial antibodies vs vesicular monoamine transporter 2(VMAt-2), HDC and ghrelin. the urinary excretion of the main histamine metabolite methylimidazoleacetic acid(U-Me Im AA) was determined using highperformance liquid chromatography in 27 of the 64 ***: In the gastric mucosa of the control tissues, co-localization studies identified neuroendocrine cells that showed immunoreactivity only to VMAt-2 and others with reactivity only to HDC. A third cellpopulation co-expressed both antigens. there was no co-expression of HDC and ghrelin. Similar results were obtained in the foci of neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia associated with chronic atrophic gastritis type A and also in the tumours. the relative incidence of the three aforementioned markers varied in the tumours that were examined using conventional immunohistochemistry. All of these GNEts revealed both VMAt-2 and HDC immunoreactivity, and their metastases showed an immunohistochemical pattern and frequency similar to that of their primary tumours. In four patients, increased U-Me Im AA excretion was detected, but only two of the patients exhibited related endocrine symptoms. CONCLUSION: Human enterochromaffin-like cells appear to partially co-express VMAt-2 and HDC. Coexpression of VMAt-2 and HDC might be required for increased histamine production in patients with GNEts.

Better understanding of c-reactive protein and leukocytes in psychiatric inpatients with affective disorders:A biopsychosocial approach

BACKGROUND Affective disorders(AD)have been linked to inflammatory processes,although the underlying mechanisms of this relationship are still not fully *** is hypothesized that demographic,somatic,lifestyle,and personality variables predict inflammatory parameters in *** to identify biopsychosocial factors contributing to inflammation in AD measured with two parameters,C-reactive protein(CRP)and *** this observational study investigated 186 hospital inpatients diagnosed with AD using demographic parameters,serum inflammatory markers,somatic variables,psychological questionnaires,and lifestyle *** regression analyses were used to predict inflammatory markers from demographic,somatic,lifestyle,and personality *** Analyses showed that 33.8%of the variance of CRP was explained by body mass index and other somatic medication(***-diabetics),age and education,and age of affective disorder *** leukocytes,20.1%of the variance was explained by smoking,diet,metabolic syndrome(MetS),and anti-inflammatory medication(***-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).Other psychiatric or behavioural variables did not reach *** Metabolic components seem important,with mounting evidence for a metabolic affective disorder *** modifications and psychoeducation should be employed to prevent or treat MetS in AD.

Psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on individuals with serious mental disorders: A systematic review of the literature

Dairy manure as a potential source of crop nutrients and environmental contaminants

Endotoxin receptor CD14 gene variants and histological features in chronic HCV infection

AIM:to analyze the correlation between CD14 rs2569190/C-159t single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and disease progression in chronic hepatitis ***: Liver biopsy specimens from a total of 137 and 349 patients with chronic hepatitis C were separately evaluated with respect to necroinflammatory activity (grading) and architectural changes (staging). In one group, further histological lesions characteristic for hepatitis C, hepatitis C virus subtypes, and biochemical parameters of liver disease were also investigated. Samples of genomic DNA were genotyped for the respective SNP by 5'-nuclease assays using fluorescent dye-labeled allele-specif ic ***: Genotype distribution did not deviate from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. In the first group, patients homozygous for the variant allele t were found to be younger than C allele carriers (39.6±12.5 vs 45.7±11.5, P=0.008). Among the histological lesions studied, portal lymphoid aggregates were more frequently observed among tt homozygotes than among C carriers (21/37 vs 32/100, P=0.008). the presence of portal lymphoid aggregates was closely correlated with hepatic inflammation (P=0.003) and with bile duct damage (Pthe degree of fibrosis, in contrast, was not found to be related to the CD14 gene C-159t ***: the data suggest a possible relationship between CD14 C-159t polymorphism and the formation of portal lymphoid aggregates, but not liver fibrosis progression in chronic hepatitis C.

Regulatory t cells in viral hepatitis

the pathogenesis and outcome of viral infections are significantly influenced by the host immune response. the immune system is able to eliminate many viruses in the acute phase of infection. However, some viruses, like hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV), can evade the host immune responses and establish a persistent infection. HCV and HBV persistence is caused by various mechanisms, like subversion of innate immune responses by viral factors, the emergence of t cell escape mutations, or t cell dysfunction and suppression. Recently, it has become evident that regulatory t cells may contribute to the pathogenesis and outcome of viral infections by suppressing antiviral immune responses. Indeed, the control of HCV and HBV specific immune responses mediated by regulatory t cells may be one mechanism that favors viral persistence, but it may also prevent the host from overwhelming t cell activity and liver damage. this review will focus on the role of regulatory t cells in viral hepatitis.

Are genetically distinct lizard species able to hybridize？ A review

Animal species are delimited by reproductive isolation mechanisms （RIMs）. Postzygotic RIMs are mainly products of genetic differences and thus their strength increases with elapsed divergence time. the relationship between postzygotic repro- ductive isolation and genetic divergence, however, differs considerably among major clades of vertebrates. We reviewed the available literature providing empirical evidence of natural and/or experimental hybridization between distinct species of lizards （squamates except snakes）. We found that hybridization events are widely distributed among nearly all major lizard clades. the majority of research focuses on parthenogenetic species and/or polyploid hybrids in families Lacertidae, teiidae and Gekkonidae. Homoploid bisexual hybrids are mainly reported within Lacertidae and Iguania groups. As a proxy of genetic divergence of the hybridizing taxa we adopted nucleotide sequence distance （HKY85） of mitochondrial cyt b gene. the upper limit of genetic di- vergence was similar with regard to both parthenogenetic and bisexual hybrids. Maximum values of these distances between hy- bridizing species of lizards approached 18%-21%, which is comparable to or even exceeds the corresponding values reported for other principal clades of vertebrates. In spite of this, F1 hybrids are typically at least partially fertile in lizards and thus genetic introgression between highly divergent species is possible. the relationship between the genetic distance and hybrid fertility was not found [Current Zoology 61 （1）： 155-180, 2015].

In their recently published study in Nature,Jenson et al.1 provide compelling,unexpected evidence that bacterial cGAMP synthase(cGAS)and other cGAS/DncV-like Nucleotidyltransferases(CD-Ntase)undergo ubiquitin-like conjugation(ULC)in type-II cyclic-oligonucleotide-based anti-phage signaling systems(CBASS).cGAS conjugation promotes cyclic-nucleotide(CN)formation and thus antiphage ***,the authors also reveal a new class of phage-encoded CBASS inhibitor,t4 Vs.4,a CN-sponge which limits CBASS effector function and promotes phage replication,revealing another weapon in the“arms race”between phages and their bacterial hosts.
