Role of Surgery on Growth of Tricuspid Valve in Pulmonary Atresia with Intact Ventricular Septum:Mid-Term results of Modified Right-Ventricular Overhauling Procedure

Objectives:To access the effectiveness of our modified right-ventricular overhauling procedure on tricuspid valve(TV)growth in patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum(PAIVS).Methods:We retrospectively reviewed 21 patients with PAIVS who underwent modified right ventricular overhauling(mRVoh)between 2008 and 2019 at two *** mRVoh consisted of wide resection of hypertrophied infundibular and trabecular muscle,peeling off fibrotic endocardial tissue in the right ventricle(RV)cavity,surgical pulmonary valvotomy,and Blalock-Taussig shunt or banding of ductus arteriosus under cardiopulmonary *** TV annulus sizes were measured and analyzed using echocardiography before and after ***:No mortalities were observed during a median follow-up of 3 years(interquartile range:1.3–4.7 years)of follow-up were *** was performed at a median age of 163.5 days(range:21–560 days),including seven neonates and two infants(re increased significantly from−2.24 to−1.15 before and after mRVoh(p=0.004).In ten patients with a prior history of percutaneous interventions for RV outflow tract(RVOT)widening at least 6 months before mRVoh,the TV annular z-score significantly changed during the period after mRVoh(−2.03 to−1.61,p=0.028)compared with the period before mRVoh(−2.51→–2.03,p=0.575)after percutaneous intervention ***:mRVoh in PAIVS patients was positively associated with TV annular growth,and it was more effective than percutaneous RVOT widening interventions without mRVoh.

The westward intrusion of south Pacific water at the western tip of the New Guinea Island

From the eastern Indonesian cruise from November 14 to 23, 2007, CTD （conductivity, temperature, depth profiler）/ADCP （acoustic Doppler current profiler）casting and seawater sampling were done at 25 stations around Waigeo Island near New Guinea Island. It was found overall westward intrusion of the south Pacific waters into the Seram Sea and southward spreading of the north and south Pacific waters into the Seram Sea. There is westward residual flow along the channel between Waigeo and New Guinea within upper 200 m with the maximum speed up to 50 cm/s, and much weaker eastward flow in the lower layer （〈 10 cm/s） due to blocking by the shallow sill at the west of the Dampier Strait. The abrupt change of bottom topography induces active horizontal and vertical mixing which results in a three-layered current system with a major through-flow of-0.99 Sv （Sv = 106 ma/s） into the Seram Sea; the transports in the upper and the lower layers are -1.14 Sv and -0.24 Sv （westward）, respectively, and in the middle there is a return flow with the transoort of ＋0.39 Sv （eastward）.

Hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） is one of the most frequent complications in patients with .liver cirrhosis. HCC without cirrhosis is rareand obviously a different entity. Treatment depends on tumor stage, liver function and general performance. results of locoregional treatment, resection or liver transplantation are superior to those of medical therapy. Surgical approaches are potentially curative. Underlying cirrhosis is usually the limiting factor for the extent of resection and persists after resection. Liver transplantation eliminates both cirrhosis and, potentially, the tumor. Whereas surgery （functional liver capacity provided） may be performed even in advanced tumors, liver transplantation is advocated in less advanced （T2） tumors in order to keep the rate of recurrent tumor low. responsible use of scarce grafts requires sticking to this rule.

Landscape pattern and its effect on ecosystem functions in Seoul Metropolitan area:Urban ecology on distribution of the naturalized plant species

During land transformation process in the human history, naturalized plants were introduced to several land use patterns by the different ways of plant itself. Including some naturalized plants that had been contribute to land restoration, many naturalized plants have been invaded to original habitat or landscape for native plants. Once the plants were colonized, they extend their area and population size. Urban developed areas often give an important role of source habitat for naturalized plants and expanding their population size. In recent, this situation is appearing as one of environmental problems about the urban landscape management controlling the naturalized plants that invaded in the developed area and conserving the native vegetation. This paper is focusing on relationships between distribution of habitat of naturalized plants and landscape patch in urban area in Seoul. Gangdong-Gu, one of the administrative areas in Seoul was selected for this study. We examined the recent land use change using LANDSAT TM data and spreading of the representative naturalized plants (Robinia pseudoacacia and Eupatorium rugosum) by Seoul Biotope Mapping Project and field survey in 1999. As a result, these two species were often occurred in the same habitat and distributed in forest edge disturbed by man. Their distribution patterns were related to landscape indices (patch size and shape) in the forest edge.

Outcomes after liver transplantation in accordance with ABO compatibility: A systematic review and meta-analysis

AIM To evaluate the differences in outcomes between ABOincompatible(ABO-I) liver transplantation(LT) and ABO-compatible(ABO-C) *** A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed by searching eligible articles published before November 28, 2016 on MEDLINE(Pub Med), EMBASE, and Cochrane databases. The primary endpoints were graft survival, patient survival, and ABO-I-related complications. reSULTS Twenty-one retrospective observational studies with a total of 8247 patients were included in this metaanalysis. Pooled results of patient survival for ABO-I LT were comparable to those for ABO-C LT. However, ABO-I LT showed a poorer graft survival than ABO-C LT(1-year: OR = 0.66, 95%CI: 0.57-0.76, P re, ABO-I LT was associated with more incidences of antibody-mediated rejection(OR = 74.21, 95%CI: 16.32-337.45, P rejection(OR =2.28, 95%CI: 1.00-5.22, P = 0.05), cytomegalovirus infection(OR = 2.64, 95%CI: 1.63-4.29, P reased acute cellular rejection in cases involving deceased donor *** Although patient survival in ABO-I LT was comparable to that in ABO-C LT, ABO-I LT was inferior to ABO-C LT in graft survival and several complications. Graft survival of ABO-I LT could be comparable to that of ABO-C LT in pediatric patients and those using rituximab.

A comparison of desensitization methods: Rituximab with/without plasmapheresis in ABO-incompatible living donor liver transplantation

Background: Plasmapheresis is a desensitization method used prior to ABO-incompatible(ABO-I) living donor liver transplantation. However, studies on its usefulness in the rituximab era are ***: Fifty-six adult patients underwent ABO-I living donor liver transplantation between January2012 and October 2015. A single dose of rituximab(300 mg/m~2) was administered 2 weeks before surgery with plasmapheresis in all patients until February 2014(RP group, n = 26). Patients were administered rituximab only, without plasmapheresis between March 2014 and October 2015(RO group, n = 30).results: The 6-, 12-and 18-month overall survival rates were 92.3%, 80.8% and 76.9% in the RP group and 96.6%, 85.4% and 85.4% in the RO group, respectively(P = 0.574). When the initial isoagglutinin titers rebound rise of isoagglutinin titers. For patients with initial isoagglutinin titers ≥ 16, the rebound rise of isoagglutinin titers was more prominent in the RP group. There was no difference in time-dependent changes in B cell subpopulations and ABO-I-related ***: Sufficient desensitization for ABO-I living donor liver transplantation can be achieved using rituximab alone. This desensitization strategy does not affect the isoagglutinin titers, ABO-I-related complications and patient survival.

Preloaded and non-preloaded intraocular lens delivery system and characteristics: human and porcine eyes trial

AIM： To compare characteristics of preloaded and nonpreloaded intraocular lens（IOL） delivery systems during IOL delivery procedures. METHODS： Total 101 human eyes were included in this prospective observational case series. Delivery characteristics of 5 types of IOLs including i Sert250 NC60（NC60）, En Vista MX60（MX60）, Acry Sof IQ SN60 WF（SN60 WF）, TECNIS ZCB00（ZCB00）, and TECNIS PCB00（PCB00） were investigated. NC60 and PCB00 were injected via preloaded delivery systems and other IOLs were injected via nonpreloaded systems. In the human trial, time taken from IOL loading to completion of implantation was measured in all eyes undergoing conventional cataract surgery. Using 4 excised porcine eyes, dynamics of ophthalmic viscosurgical device（OVD） between an IOL injector and a porcine eye was analyzed using fluorescein sodiumstained OVD. reSULTS： The average time for IOL implantation was 22.0 s for NC60, 43.2 s for MX60, 32.3 s for SN60 WF, 41.4 s for ZCB00, and 14.6 s for PCB00 respectively. The number of cases with IOL manipulation with a second instrument was 6 for MX60, 2 for ZCB00, 0 for SN60 WF, NC60, and PCB00. Amount of OVD pushed into a porcine eye was smaller with a preloaded system than with non-preloaded systems. CONCLUSION： IOL delivery with preloaded systems is faster and more predictable. Moreover, a preloaded delivery system shows relatively less OVD pushed into a porcine eye than non-preloaded systems.

Thermal Dechlorination Kinetics of Rare Earth Oxychlorides

The kinetics of a thermal dechlorination and oxidation of NdOCl and GdOCl were investigated by using a non-isothermal thermogravimetric analysis under various oxygen partial pressures. The conversions of NdOCl and GdOCl into each of their stable oxides (Nd2O3 and Gd2O3) appeared to be an oxygen-dependent endothermic and one-step reaction. The observed activation energy for the conversions of NdOCl and GdOCl were determined as 228.3±6.1 kJ·mole-1 and 137.7±4.1 kJ·mole-1, respectively. The conversions of NdOCl and GdOCl into each of their stable oxides (Nd2O3 and Gd2O3) could be described by a power law (g(α)=α3/2) and a linear-contracting boundary reaction (g(α)=α), respectively.

Characteristics of Oxidation reaction of Rare-Earth Chlorides in Eutectic Chloride Melt

Oxidation reaction of rare earth chlorides(Ce/Pr/Nd/EuCl3) in a LiCl-KCl eutectic molten salt was carried out using an oxygen sparging method. regardless of the sparging time and the molten salt temperature, oxychlorides (NdOCl, PrOCl) and oxides(CeO, Eu2O3, PrO2) were formed as a oxidation products(i.e. precipitates) by the reaction with oxygen. The conversion efficiency of the rare earth elements to the precipitates increases with the sparging time and the molten salt temperature. In the conditions of 650 ℃ of a molten salt temperature and 420 min of a sparging time, the values of the conversion efficiency of the used rare earth chlorides were over 99.9%. Information on the hydrodynamics of an oxygen-molten salt two phase flow system is essential since its hydrodynamics strongly affect the oxidation reaction of rare earth elements in an eutectic chloride melts.
