Road potholes can cause serious social issues,such as unexpected damages to vehicles and traffic *** efficient road management,technologies that quickly find potholes are required,and thus researches on such technologies have been conducted *** three-dimensional(3D)reconstruction method has relatively high accuracy and can be used in practice but it has limited application owing to its long data processing time and high sensor maintenance *** two-dimensional(2D)vision method has the advantage of inexpensive and easy application of ***,although the 2D vision method using the convolutional neural network(CNN)has shown improved pothole detection performance and adaptability,large amount of data is required to sufficiently train the ***,we propose a method to improve the learning performance of CNN-based object detection model by artificially generating synthetic data similar to a pothole and enhancing the learning ***,to make the defective areas appear more contrasting,the transformed disparity map(TDM)was calculated using stereo-vision cameras,and the detection performance of the model was further improved through the late fusion with RGB(Red,Green,Blue)***,through the convergence of multimodal You Only Look Once(YOLO)frameworks trained by RGB images and TDMs respectively,the detection performance was enhanced by 10.7%compared with that when using only ***,the superiority of the proposed method was confirmed by showing that the data processing speed was two times faster than the existing 3D reconstruction method.

Aggregation Induced Emission(AIE)is an attractive,fluorescent-based phenomenon that can be used to design fluorescent imaging agents and fluorescent *** this highlight,we discuss a recently reported study that identifies the chemical scaffold of an FDA-approved therapeutic(deferasirox)as a molecule with AIE-like properties(AIEgen).Utilizing its therapeutic efficacy for bacterial biofilms,deferasiroxderivatives were shown able to treat and image bacteria biofilms and detect a bacterial *** demonstrates the potential of AIE for drug design as this allows the simultaneous ability to image the therapeutic’s location and mode of action.

This study was to compare the estimates of basal endogenous losses(BEL)of amino acids(AA)determined by 3 methods including feeding a nitrogen-free diet(NFD)or a low-casein diet(LCD,containing casein at 30 g/kg diet)or using the regression *** objective was to investigate whether the ileal AA digestibility of corn calculated from a casein-supplemented corn diet is additive for a cornsoybean meal(SBM)mixed diet in *** d 31 of age,168 Ross 308 male broilers were assigned to 8 dietary treatments with 6 replicates in a randomized complete block *** NFD and 3 diets containing 30,60,or 90 g/kg of casein were formulated to determine the BEL of AA and ileal AA digestibility of *** other 4 diets consisted of a corn diet,SBM diet,casein-supplemented corn diet,and corn-SBM mixed *** d 35 of age,digesta from the distal section of the ileum were *** BEL of AA in birds fed the LCD were greater(P<0.05)than those of the NFD and the regression *** were no differences in the BEL of AA determined between the NFD and the regression *** ileal digestibility(AID)and standardized ileal digestibility(SID)of AA for corn calculated from the casein-supplemented corn diet were greater(P<0.05)than those of the corn *** predicted AID of Thr in the corn-SBM mixed diet based on the AID of AA for corn in the corn diet was lower(P<0.05)than the measured ***,the predicted AID of AA in the mixed diet based on the AID of AA for corn in the casein-supplemented corn diet did not differ from the measured *** predicted SID of AA in the mixed diet did not differ from the measured SID irrespective of casein *** conclusion,feeding an NFD or using the regression method yields similar BEL of AA,but not feeding an *** supplementation in the corn diet increases the ileal AA digestibility for corn,which is additive for the corn-SBM mixed diet.

Striping and Scheduling for Large Scale Multimedia Servers

When designing a multimedia server, several things must be decided: which scheduling scheme to adopt, how to allocate multimedia objects on storage devices, and the round length with which the streams will be serviced. Several problems in the designing of large-scale multimedia servers are addressed, with the following contributions: (1) a striping scheme is proposed that minimizes the number of seeks and hence maximizes the performance; (2) a simple and efficient mechanism is presented to find the optimal striping unit size as well as the optimal round length, which exploits both the characteristics of VBR streams and the situation of resources in the system; and (3) the characteristics and resource requirements of several scheduling schemes are investigated in order to obtain a clear indication as to which scheme shows the best performance in realtime multimedia servicing. Based on our analysis and experimental results, the CSCAN scheme outperforms the other schemes. It is believed that the results are of value in the design of effective large-scale multimedia servers. The convective heat transfer coefficient and surface emissivity before and after flame occurrence on a wood specimen surface and the flame heat flux were estimated using the repulsive particle swarm optimization algorithm and cone heater test results. The cone heater specified in the ISO 5660 standards was used, and six cone heater heat fluxes were tested. Preservative-treated Douglas fir 21 mm in thickness was used as the wood specimen in the tests. This study confirmed that the surface temperature of the specimen, which was calculated using the convective heat transfer coefficient, surface emissivity and flame heat flux on the wood specimen by a repulsive particle swarm optimization algorithm, was consistent with the measured temperature. Considering the measurement errors in the surface temperature of the specimen, the applicability of the optimization method considered in this study was evaluated.

We describe the design of four ornithopters ranging in wing span from 10 cm to 40 cm, and in weight from 5 g to 45 g. The controllability and power supply are two major considerations, so we compare the efficiency and characteristics between different types of subsystems such as gearbox and tail shape. Our current omithopter is radio-controlled with inbuilt visual sensing and capable of takeoff and landing. We also concentrate on its wing efficiency based on design inspired by a real insect wing and consider that aspects of insect flight such as delayed stall and wake capture are essential at such small size. Most importantly, the advance ratio, controlled either by enlarging the wing beat amplitude or raising the wing beat frequency, is the most significant factor in an ornithopter which mimics an insect.

Optimization of Pyrolysis Properties using TGA and Cone Calorimeter Test

The present paper describes an optimization work to obtain the properties related to a pyrolysis process in the solid material such as density, specific heat, conductivity of virgin and char, heat of pyrolysis and kinetic parameters used for deciding pyrolysis rate. A repulsive particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to obtain the pyrolysis-related properties. In the previous study all properties obtained only using a cone calorimeter but in this paper both the cone calorimeter and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) are used for precisely optimizing the pyrolysis properties. In the TGA test a very small mass is heated up and conduction and heat capacity in the specimen is negligible so kinetic parameters can first be optimized. Other pyrolysis-related properties such as virgin/char specific heat and conductivity and char density are also optimized in the cone calorimeter test with the already decided parameters in the TGA test.

SnSe is a promising thermoelectric material with a high figure of merit in single crystal form, which has stimulated continuous research on polycrystalline SnSe. In this study, we investigated a metallization techniques for polycrystalline SnSe to achieve highly efficient and practical SnSe thermoelectric modules. The Ag/Ni metallization layers were formed on pristine polycrystalline SnSe using various deposition technique: sputter coating Ni, powder Niand foil Ni by spark plasma sintering. Structural analysis demonstrated that the microstructure and con tact resistance could be different according to the metallization process, despite using the same metals. The Ag/Ni metallization layer using foil Ni acted as an effective diffusion barrier and minimized electrical contact resistance (2.3×10^-4Ωcm^2). A power loss in the thermoelectric module of only 5% was demonstrated using finite element simulation.

Roles of lignin biosynthesis and regulatory genes in plant development

Lignin is an important factor affecting agricultural traits, biofuel production, and the pulping industry. Most lignin biosynthesis genes and their regulatory genes are expressed mainly in the vascular bundles of stems and leaves, preferentially in tissues undergoing Iignification. Other genes are poorly expressed during normal stages of development, but are strongly induced by abiotic or biotic stresses. Some are expressed in non-lignifying tissues such as the shoot apical meristem. Alterations in lignin levels affect plant develop- ment. Suppression of lignin biosynthesis genes causes abnormal phenotypes such as collapsed xylem, bending stems, and growth retardation. The loss of expression by genes that function early in the lignin biosynthesis pathway results in more severe developmental phenotypes when compared with plants that have mutations in later genes. Defective lignin deposition is also associated with phenotypes of seed shattering or brittle culm. MYB and NAC transcriptional factors function as switches, and some homeobox proteins negatively control lignin biosynthesis genes. Ectopic deposition caused by overexpression of lignin biosynthesis genes or master switch genes induces curly leaf formation and dwarfism.
