Anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory activities of aronia (Aronia melanocarpa) leaves

Objective: To determine the anti-cancer effect of aronia leaf extract on SK-Hep1 cells using migration, metallo metrix proteinase-2/-9(MMP-2/-9) and MT-1 MMP expression and to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activities of the leaf extract. Methods: The effect of aronia leaf extract on cancer prevention was investigated. SK-Hep1 human liver cancer cell line was treated with aronia leaf extract at various concentractions. MTT assay was used to measure cancer cell growth inhibition, and wound migration assay was used for metastasis determination. The expression of MMP-2/-9 was measured at the protein level using zymography and the expression of MMP-2/-9 and MT-1 MMP was examined at the gene level by RT-PCR. Raw 264.7 macrophage cells were stimulated with lipopolysaccharides to induce inflammation, and then the inhibition of inflammation was evaluated by treatment of aronia leaf extract. Expressions of interleukin-6, tumor factor-d. Results: SK-Hep1 cell growth was inhibited毩, and nitric oxide(NO) were also determine in proportion to the concentration of aronia leaf extract. In migration assay, aronia leaf extract showed 61.3%-96.3% wound size inhibtion after treating 50-200 μg/mL of aronia leaf extract for 24 h. At the protein level, the expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 decreased as the concentration of aronia leaf extract treated with SK-Hep1 cells increased. In addition, the same pattern as in the protein was also observed in the mRNA levels. The expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 protein were inhibited by 92.2% and 53.8%, respectively after treatment with 200 μg/mL aronia leaf extract. In addition, Raw 264.7 cells treated with aronia leaf extract did not affect cell survival. There was dose dependent inhibition of interleukine-6, tumor necrosis factor-a and nitric oxide after treating aronia leaf extract in lipopolysaccharides-treated Raw cell. Conclusions: The results show that aronia leaf has anticancer and and antimetastatic properties in SK-Hep1 and Raw 264.7 cells.

BACKGROUND Retrograde intrarenal surgery(RIRS)has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment modality in large-scale quantitative ***,although its safety profile has been established,it also has a potential risk of life-threatening *** here describe our experience with a patient who developed a huge periureteral hematoma after RIRS with holmium laser *** SUMMARY A 73-year-old woman visited our center with a complaint of gross *** enhanced computed tomography(CT)scan revealed a 1.5-cm left renal pelvis stone with *** patient underwent *** the surgery,a 12/14-Fr ureteral access sheath was applied and a 6-Fr ureteral catheter was indwelled *** postoperative day 1,she experienced aggravated left flank pain and left lower-quadrant tenderness without rebound tenderness.A follow-up CT scan was taken,which revealed a huge hematoma in the periureteral space,not in the perirenal space,with suspicious contrast medium *** angiography was performed;however,it showed no evidence of active *** was conservatively managed with hydration and antibiotic and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy,and was discharged on postoperative day ***,she visited our outpatient department with recurrent left flank pain at 5 d from *** confirmed that the double J-stent was *** rule out stent malfunction,the stent was *** size of the hematoma was observed in the imaging studies,and conservative management for candiduria was performed for 1 *** Although RIRS is an effective and safe procedure for the management of renal stones,clinicians should be aware of its potential complications.

We investigated the effect of black sea bream extracts on changes in pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS)in murine *** levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines[interleukin(IL)-6,tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),IL-12/IL-23(p40)and IL-17A]and anti-inflammatory cytokines[IL-4,IL-10 and interferon-γ(IFN-γ)]were *** of murine splenocytes with acetone+methylene chloride(A+M)and methanol(MeOH)extracts significantly decreased LPS-induced IL-6,IL-12/IL-23(p40)and IL-17A productions after 6 h incubation(p<0.05).The A+M and MeOH extracts significantly increased LPS-induced IL-4 and IFN-γproductions at 48 and 72 h incubation(p<0.05).Treatment with A+M extract resulted in significantly higher IL-10 production in splenocytes after 72 h(p<0.05).Conclusively,black sea bream extracts were shown to be efficient in falling several pro-inflammatory cytokines while rising anti-inflammatory *** our results suggest that black sea bream extracts selectivity modulate immune events.

In this pape,~ we study uniform L1-stability and asymptotic completeness of the Vlasov-Yukawa-Boltzmann （V-Y-B） system. For a sufficiently small rand smooth initial data, we show that classical solutions exist globally and satisfy dispersion estimates, uniform L1-stability with respect to initial data and scattering type estimate. We show that the short range nature of interactions due to the Yukawa potential enables us to construct robust Lyapunov type functional to derive scattering states. In the zero mass limit of force carrier particles, we also show that the classical solutions to the V-Y-B system converge to that of the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann （V-P-B） system in any finite time interval

Biological reactions require self-assembly of factors in the complex cellular *** evidence indicates that intrinsically disordered,low-complexity sequence domains(LCDs)found in regulatory factors mediate diverse cellular processes from gene expression to DNA repair to signal transduction,by enriching specific biomolecules in membraneless compartments or hubs that may undergo liquidliquid phase separation(LLPS).In this review,we discuss how embryonic stem cells take advantage of LCD-driven interactions to promote cell-specific transcription,DNA damage response,and DNA *** propose that LCDmediated interactions play key roles in stem cell maintenance and safeguarding genome integrity.

Marine ciliate community in relation to eutrophication of coastal waters in the Yellow Sea

We assessed the potential of marine ciliate community as an indicator to coastal water quality using water samples collected from four stations in thc Yellow Sea in the summer 2000. The four stations were characterized by different levels of pollution. The ciliate communities consisted primarily of tintinnids and aloricate ciliates that were 〈30 um. A total of 78 species were classified： 55 species at Station 2, 51 species each at Stations l and 4, and 47 species at Station 3. The mean number of species at each site was 29.2±2.0 （Station 1）, 28.5±2.9 （Station 2）, 27.8±1.7 （Station 3）, and 24.5±2.3 （Station 4）. The abundance was highly variable： 19 331±11 187 ind./L at Station 1, 7 960±5 639 ind./L at Station 2, 29 015±12 999 ind./L at Station 3, and 8 190±4 658 ind./L at Station 4. Our results suggest that neither the simple chemical analysis （e.g. chemical oxygen demand, dissolved inorganic nitrogen, and phosphate） nor the eutrophication/pollution index adequately described the water quality at the four stations. The same was true of the number of species and their abundance, both of which had no correlation with the chemical indices. In contrast, Margalef＇s diversity index values （3.12 at Station 2, 2.89 at Station 1, and 2.64 at Stations 3 and 4） generally discriminated the water quality status of the four stations. The difference in water quality among the stations was strongly supported by the pattern of species richness （i.e. the total number of species） of ciliates at each station. Our evaluation was consistent with the results of long-term water quality monitoring at the four stations. With increasing eutrophication, we observed also a compositional and functional shift in the ciliate assemblages from algivorous oligotrich/choreotrich to nonselective-omnivorous gymnostomatids to bacterivorous-detrivorous scuticociliatids. Thus, eiliates may be used to indicate the coastal water quality status of a given site.

Background:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a major contributor to liver diseases globally,yet there are limited studies investigating the impact of diet and lifestyle factors on its *** study aimed to examine the association between the prevalence of NAFLD and predicted pro-inflammatory high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)***:We included 1,076 Korean adults who underwent a medical examination at the Seoul National University Hospital Gangnam Healthcare Center in Korea between May and December 2011 and updated in *** predicted pro-inflammatory hs-CRP score was derived from pro-inflammatory demographic,lifestyle,dietary,and anthropometric factors,and NAFLD was diagnosed using liver ***-adjusted odds ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)of NAFLD odds according to predicted pro-inflammatory hs-CRP score were estimated using logistic regression at a two-sided P<***:Among the 1,076 participants,320 had *** multivariable-adjusted ORs and 95%CIs for NAFLD by tertiles of predicted pro-inflammatory hs-CRP score were 1.00,3.30(2.06,5.30),18.25(10.47,31.81;P<0.0001)in men and women combined,1.00,1.77(1.10,2.84),and 3.26(2.02,5.28;P<0.0001)among men only,and 1.00,3.03(1.39,6.62),and 16.71(7.05,39.63;P<0.0001)among women ***:Predicted pro-inflammatory hs-CRP score was associated with higher odds of *** dietary and lifestyle changes related to lower inflammation might be a valuable strategy for preventing NAFLD.

Byte Frequency Based Indicators for Crypto-Ransomware Detection from Empirical Analysis

File entropy is one of the major indicators of crypto-ransomware because the encryption by ransomware increases the randomness of file ***,entropy-based ransomware detection has certain limitations;for example,when distinguishing ransomware-encrypted files from normal files with inherently high-level entropy,misclassification is very *** addition,the entropy evaluation cost for an entire file renders entropy-based detection impractical for large *** this paper,we propose two indicators based on byte frequency for use in ransomware detection;these are termed EntropySA and DistSA,and both consider the interesting characteristics of certain file subareas termed“sample areas”(SAs).For an encrypted file,both the sampled area and the whole file exhibit high-level randomness,but for a plain file,the sampled area embeds informative structures such as a file header and thus exhibits relatively low-level randomness even though the entire file exhibits high-level *** and DistSA use“byte frequency”and a variation of byte frequency,respectively,derived from sampled *** indicators cause less overhead than other entropy-based detection methods,as experimentally proven using realistic ransomware *** evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of our indicators,we also employ three expensive but elaborate classification models(neural network,support vector machine and threshold-based approaches).Using these models,our experimental indicators yielded an average Fl-measure of 0.994 and an average detection rate of 99.46%for file encryption attacks by realistic ransomware samples.

Possibility of Solid Hydrometeor Growth Zone Identification Using Radar Spectrum Width

In this study,the correlation between simulated and measured radar velocity spectrum width(σ_(v))is *** results show that the dendrites growth zones(DGZs)and needles growth zones(NGZs)mostly contain dendrites(DN)and needles(NE),***σ_(v) zones(1.11.2 m s^(-1),a differential reflectivity(ZDR)higher than 0 dB,and a cross-correlation coefficient(ρhv)less than *** contrast,prolate particles with relatively uniform shapes were observed in the NGZ withσ_(v)<0.6 m s^(-1),a ZDR less than 0 dB,andρhv higher than *** simulation results show that the DN exhibited a largerσ_(v) compared to the NE,and this observedσ_(v) was strongly dependent on the wind fluctuations(v’)due to turbulence or wind *** contrast,the NE exhibited a significantly smallσ_(v)~0.55 m s^(-1),which converges irrespective of v’.In addition,a strong correlation between the measuredσ_(v) values at five radar elevation angles(θ=6.2°,9.1°,13.1°,19°,and 80°)and those simulated in this study confirmed the significance of the analysis results.
