AIM:To examine whether visceral adipose tissue(VAT)serves as a risk factor for colorectal adenoma-early colorectal cancer(CRC)***:A retrospective case-control study was conducted with 153 patients with stageⅠCRC,age/sex-matched 554 patients with colorectal adenoma and557 normal *** subjects underwent various laboratory tests,abdominal fat computed tomography(CT),and *** was defined as an intraabdominal adipose tissue area measured by CT *** tissue area was measured at the level of the umbilicus from CT *** used the lowest quartile of VAT and subcutaneous adipose tissue area as a reference ***:The body mass index(BMI),total cholesterol,fasting glucose and VAT areas were significantly different among normal,adenoma and CRC *** VAT area was 120.6±49.0 cm2in normal controls,130.6±58.4 cm2in adenoma group and 117.6±51.6cm2in CRC group(P=0.002).In univariate analysis,increased BMI was a risk factor for CRC compared to control(P=0.025).However,VAT area was not a risk factor for CRC compared to *** multivariate analysis that adjusted for smoking,alcohol consumption and subcutaneous adipose tissue area,VAT area was inversely related to CRC,compared to the adenoma(OR=0.53,95%CI:0.31-0.92,highest quartile vs lowest quartile).CONCLUSION:Our study shows that visceral obesity is not a risk factor for early *** obesity might influence the normal-adenoma sequence but not the adenoma-early carcinoma sequence.

AIM： To assess visual quality after presbyopia correction using an aspheric ablation profile and a micro-monovision protocol. METHODS： This is a retrospective interventional study. Fifty-four eyes of 27 patients （mean age, 50.2±7.5y） who underwent presbyopia correction with an aspheric micro-monovision protocol were enrolled. The values of modulation transfer function （MTF） cutoff frequency, Strehl ratio, objective scattering index （OSI） and accommodation range were quantitatively assessed using the HD analyzer. Preoperative and postoperative contrast sensitivity （CS） at far （2.5 m） and near （40 cm） distance and higher-order aberrations （HOAs） were analyzed. Subjective visual satisfaction was evaluated by self-reported questionnaire regarding optical visual symptoms. RESULTS： One year after presbyopia correction, no significant differences were found in the MTF cutoff frequency, Strehl ratio and OSI, however, the lID analyzer accommodation range significantly differed postoperatively （P=0.004）. Postoperative CS at 12 and 18 cpd at near showed statistically significant improvement （P=0.020 and 0.008, respectively）. Visual performance by self-reported questionnaire revealed satisfactory results in terms of subjective visual quality improvement. CONCLUSION： Objective optical quality parameters show good visual outcomes. Subjective visual quality assessed by self-reported questionnaire in the presbyopia correction group show satisfactory results.

BACKGROUND A recent retrospective study confirmed that hepatic stiffness and splenic stiffness measured with magnetic resonance elastography(MRE) are strongly associated with the presence of esophageal varices. Patients who had undergone Kasai operations for biliary atresia were selected for the Kasai group, and patients with normal livers and spleens were selected for the control group. Two-dimensional spin-echo echoplanar MRE acquisition centered on the liver, with a pneumatic driver at 60 Hz and a low amplitude, was performed to obtain hepatic and splenic stiffness values. Laboratory results for aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index(APRI) were evaluated within six months of MRE, and the normalized spleen size ratio was determined with the upper normal size limit. Porcelain enamel coatings were widely applied for the protection of steel products because they offered high corrosion protection,resistance to heat and abrasion,high hardness,hygiene and ease of *** typical process to produce enameled steels is roughly divided into two stages:the first stage consists of a forming process to give the desired shape to a steel substrate,and the second stage consists of a firing process to bond enamel frits on the *** firing process requires a high temperature above 800 °C,which may lead to austenitic transformation and severe thermal deformation of the steel *** aim of this study is to develop a finite element analysis (FE analysis) technique to predict the mechanical and thermal deformations of the enameled steels during forming and any further enameling process,including *** FE analysis involves analyzing the strain history of the steel substrate,which comprises the stress and thickness distributions of the substrate and its deformed shape,and the high-temperature behavior of the enamel coating *** validity of the FE analysis is verified through the U-bending test and firing test with various numbers and positions of enamel coating layers on the *** results reveal that the FE analysis results agree well with the experimental results with 8% error.

One of the primary features of nano-indentation technique is that the contact area induced by an indenter is indirectly measured by a relationship between the penetration depth and the known geometry of the ***,this indirect measurement occasionally leads to inaccurate properties of the indented *** objective of this study is to investigate the effects of E/σr and the strain hardening exponents n of materials on the behaviors of pile-up and sink-in in nano-indentation and to predict n values of materials from the residual indentation *** relations between the residual indentation profile and n value of the indented material were identified by dimensional ***,they were numerically formulated using FE analysis of nano-indentation for 140 different combinations of elastic-plastic parameters such as E,σy and *** parameters of hrp/hm,herp/hm,Rr/hm and HO&P/Hreal were introduced as various dimensionless parameters to represent and quantify the residual indentation profile after *** were subsequently characterized as dimensionless functions using n and E/σr ***,the validity of these functions was verified through 3D FE analysis of nano-indentation for Al 6061-T6 and AISI 1010 materials.

In this study, chlorine decay experiments were conducted for the raw water from Nakdong River that is treated by Chllseo Water Treatment Plant （CWTP） situated in Haman, Korea as well as the effluents from sand and granular activated carbon （GAC） filters of CWTP and fitted using a chlorine decay model. The model estimated the fast and slow reacting nitrogenous as well as organic/inorganic compounds that were present in the water. It was found that the chlorine demand due to fast and slow reacting （FRA and SRA） organic/inorganic substances was not reduced significantly by sand as well as GAC filters. However, the treated effluents from those filters contained FRA and SRA that are less reactive and had small reaction rate constants. For the effluents from microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration the chlorine demand because FRA and SRA were further reduced but the reaction rate constants were larger compared to those of sand and GAC filter effluents. This has implications in the formation of disinfection by products （DBPs）. If DBPs are assumed to form due to the interactions between chlorine and SRA, then it is possible that the DBP formation potential in the effluents from membrane filtrations could be higher than that in the effluents from granular media filters.

Applications of a novel curve-fitting technique are presented to efficiently predict the motion of the vortex filament, which is trailed from a rigid body such as wings and rotors. The gov- erning equations of the motion, when a Lagrangian approach with the present curve-fitting method is applied, can be transformed into an easily solvable form of the system of nonlinear ordinary dif- ferential equations. The applicability of Bezier curves, B-spline, and Lagrange interpolating polyno- mials is investigated. Local Lagrange interpolating polynomials with a shift operator are proposed as the best selection for applications, since it provides superior system characteristics with minimum computing time, compared to other methods. In addition, the Gauss quadrature formula with local refinement strategy has been developed for an accurate prediction of the induced velocity computed with the line integration of the Biot-Savart law. Rotary-wing problems including a vortex ring problem are analyzed to show the efficiency, accuracy, and flexibility in the applications of the pro- posed method.
