Reminiscing begins with childhood and passes on to student days through graduate school and the first real contact with research. Then early academic posi- tions and stumbling efforts to pursue my ideas. The first significant progress came as a research associate with Prof. W. m. Elsasser at the University of Utah, beginning with an introduction to magnetohydrodynarnics and the generation of the geomagnetic field through induction in the liquid metal core of Earth. A move to the University of Chicago to work with Prof. J. A. Simpson, on the implications of cosmic ray varia- tions and interplanetary magnetic fields, led to the theory of coronal expansion and the solar wind and then to exploring the dynamical effects of cosmic rays on the galactic magnetic field. Spontaneous current sheets and intrinsic rapid reconnection in interlaced magnetic field line topologies were the next big project, leading up to retirement. Finally, it is a pleasure to recall my many associates, whose fresh thinking helped stimulate the daily research activities.

Background: In the context of the fight against HIV, a lack of skills in monitoring and evaluating the personnel in charge of activities has been identified at the national level. It was the subject of a priority axis of the national plan for monitoring and evaluating the fight against HIV (2006-2010) that was aimed at strengthening the capacities of actors in this area. To increase the critical mass of competent human resources in the short term, the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) of Côte d’Ivoire organized monitoring and evaluation training sessions for healthcare professionals from 2011 to 2016. methods: A single case study with multiple levels of analysis was carried out, combining a qualitative survey and a literature review. An evaluation was carried out six months after each training session. In addition, the results of the pre- and post-tests and of the daily and final evaluations that accompanied the various training sessions were used to provide further information. The qualitative data collected were analyzed using INVIVO 15 software. Results: Some 89 health professionals (69% men and 31% women) working at the national level (51% at the central level, including 58% in health programs) and in development partner agencies (37%) participated in this capacity building program. most participants were senior health managers (56%), data managers (23%), and statisticians and computer scientists (10%). Almost all the trainings were financed by 16 technical and financial partners (85%), mainly the mEASURE Evaluation project (27%). Conclusion: m&E training, despite all its imperfections, has made it possible to identify m&E training needs at the national level and to increase the critical mass of national skills and to have some culture in m&E.

Some properties of the Fe-based P/m composites sintered and reinforced by infiltration with Cu-Sn alloy were *** is shown that the hardness of the sintered material is 2.5 times lower,tensile strength is 1.7 times lower and the wear resistance is 2.5-3.3 times lower in comparison with those of the infiltrated *** presence of pores on the friction surface of the sintered material affects the features of the wear *** to the specific morphology of copper in the infiltrated material,the phenomenon of selective mass transfer is observed and worn surfaces have a spongy-capillary texture.

The warming-driven increase of the vegetation season length impacts both net productivity and phenology of plants, changing an annual carbon cycle of terrestrial ecosystems. To evaluate this influence, tree growth along the temperature gradients can be investigated on various organization levels, beginning from detailed climatic records in xylem cells’ number and morphometric parameters. In this study, the Borus Ridge of the Western Sayan mountains(South Siberia) was considered as a forest area under rapid climate change caused by massive Sayano-Shushenskoe reservoir. Several parameters of the xylem anatomical structure in Siberian spruce(Picea obovata Ledeb.)were derived from normalized tracheidograms of cell radial diameter and cell wall thickness and analyzed during 50 years across elevational gradient(at 520,960, and 1320 m a.s.l.). On the regional scale, the main warming by 0.42°C per decade occurs during cold period(November–march). Construction of the reservoir accelerated local warming substantially since 1980, when abrupt shift of the cold season temperature by 2.6°C occurred. It led to the vegetation season beginning 3-6 days earlier and ending 4-10 day later with more stable summer heat supply. Two spatial patterns were found in climatic response of maximal cell wall thickness:(1)temperature has maximal impact during 21-day period, and its seasonality shifts with elevation in tune with temperature gradient;(2) response to the date of temperature passing +9.5°C threshold is observed at two higher sites. Climate change yielded significantly bigger early wood spruce tracheids at all sites, but its impact on cell wall deposition process had elevational gradient: maximal wall thickness increased by 7.9% at the treeline, by 18.2% mid-range,and decreased by 4.9% at the lower boundary of spruce growth;normalized total cell wall area increased by 6.2%-6.8% at two higher sites but remained stable at the lowest one. In the western part of the South Baikal Basin,spatial-temporal distribution of earthquake epicenters shows quasi-periodic seismic *** largest earthquakes that occurred in 1999(m_(W)=6.0)and 2008(m_(W)=6.3)fall within seismic intervals of 1994-2003 and 2003-2012,*** the seismic interval that began in 2013,the ^(234)U/^(238)U activity ratio(AR)in groundwater was monitored assuming its dependence on crack opening/closing that facilitated/prevented water circulation in an active boundary fault of the *** from disordered,high-amplitude fluctuations of AR values to consistent,low-amplitude fluctuations in different monitoring sites were found to be sensitive indicators of both small seismic events occurring directly on the observation area,and of a large remote *** hydroisotopic responses to seismic events were consistent with monitoring data on deformation and temperature variations of *** hydroisotopic effects can be applied for detecting a seismically dangerous state of an active fault and prediction of a large future earthquake.

建筑基坑内支撑的拆除是影响施工进度的重要因素之一。静态破碎技术拆除具有安全、快速方便的优点,为了测试静态破碎剂对支撑梁静态开裂的效果,在不同水剂配比、不同温度的特定条件下进行了膨胀试验。静态破碎膨胀压力试验采用应变片法,用4根不同内径的钢管测量膨胀压力,所用钢管内径分别为24mm、32mm、36mm、39mm,壁厚3mm,钢管长度1000m。利用能量释放率原理评价了静态破碎剂的膨胀性能。结果表明,静态破碎剂的膨胀过程可分为四个阶段,即混合料硬化阶段、裂纹扩展阶段、混合料体积迅速膨胀阶段和体积膨胀减缓阶段,其中以0.28的配比最大,体积膨胀率为4.485。不同水温下的恒定破碎剂配比表明,水的温度反应会提高反应速率,改变体积膨胀率和反应达到的最高温度。膨胀压力检查时,各部位应变计值不同,可以认为是在特定时间内施加破碎剂浆液触发的,除30mm的较小钢管外,其余4根钢管发生井喷,导致破碎剂被喷出来,钢管内径越大,喷射时间越早,喷射出的浆液和气体会因温度较低而停止反应,钢管缓慢冷却,应变计的数值最终降低到稳定。最后,针对支撑梁的孔型布置,采用Abaqus数值模拟方法,模拟了两个不同装药孔在不同孔型布置下混凝土的位移和应力场。布置孔周围出现位移场和应力场,最大拉应力出现在大直径孔周围,孔中线应力和拉应力大于孔边,两孔连接处应力较大,应力大于破坏应变而产生裂纹。
