The objective of this multicentric study was to assess the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma génitalium and Trichomonas vaginalis infections in Brazzaville, in the Republic of Congo, using molecular methods. From January to December 2021, the sexually transmitted disease risk participants were recruited from six centers: The Association of Young HIV-Positive People of Congo, The Congolese Association for Family Welfare, The Association for Support to Vulnerable Groups, Talangaï hospital, Brazzaville university hospital (outpatient service) and the private clinic COGEMO (outpatient service). The real-time multiplex PCR was carried out to detect these pathogens. Each patient had at least one specimen (urine, urethral, anal and/or vaginal samples). The patients were considered infected when one of their samples was positive. 287 participants made of 227 women and 60 men were tested. The general prevalence of these infections was: Chlamydia trachomatis 2.79%, Neisseria gonorrhoeae 3.14%, Mycoplasma génitalium 3.45% and Trichomonas vaginalis 2.97. The prevalence rates according to sex were: C. trachomatis, M. génitalium, N. gonorrhea and T. vaginalis were 1.32%, 2.05%, 1.32% and 3.42% in women and 8.33%, 7.02%, 10% and 1.75% in men, respectively. Most infected patients were asymptomatic. Prevalence rates were higher in bisexual individuals, with the exception of T. vaginalis which showed higher prevalence in heterosexual patients. The bisexual and homosexual individuals represent a major public health problem in sexually active young adults, particularly among men having sex with men. These sexually transmitted infections are mainly asymptomatic, their diagnosis and management remain difficult in developing countries.

Gemcitabine-induced haemolytic uremic syndrome,although infrequent,can it be prevented:A case report and review of literature

Gemcitabine is an antineoplastic used to treat several malignancies including pancreatic cancer. Its toxicity profile is well known with myelotoxicity, increased vascular permeability and peripheral oedema as most frequent adverse events. However, several cases of acute renal failure have been reported and haemolytic uremic syndrome(HUS) seems to be the underlying process. The cause of HUS remains unknown but its consequences can be lethal. Therefore, a high grade of suspicion is crucial to diagnose it and promptly treat it. This hopefully will reduce its morbidity. HUS is characterized by progressive renal failure associated with microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia and thrombocytopenia. The primary event is damage to endothelial cells and thrombotic microangiopathy(TMA) is the histopathological lesion. TMA affects mainly renal microvasculature. However, some cases evolve with central nervous or cardiovascular systems involvement. We present here a case of gemcitabine-induced HUS, with renal and cardiovascular system affected at the time of diagnosis which to our knowledge this is the first time of such case to be reported.

Genetic resources and precise gene editing for targeted improvement of barley abiotic stress tolerance

Abiotic stresses, predominately drought, heat, salinity, cold, and waterlogging, adversely affect cereal crops. They limit barley production worldwide and cause huge economic losses. In barley, functional genes under various stresses have been identified over the years and genetic improvement to stress tolerance has taken a new turn with the introduction of modern geneediting platforms. In particular, clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9(Cas9) is a robust and versatile tool for precise mutation creation and trait improvement. In this review, we highlight the stress-affected regions and the corresponding economic losses among the main barley producers. We collate about 150 key genes associated with stress tolerance and combine them into a single physical map for potential breeding practices. We also overview the applications of precise base editing, prime editing, and multiplexing technologies for targeted trait modification, and discuss current challenges including high-throughput mutant genotyping and genotype dependency in genetic transformation to promote commercial breeding. The listed genes counteract key stresses such as drought, salinity, and nutrient deficiency, and the potential application of the respective gene-editing technologies will provide insight into barley improvement for climate resilience.

Assessing the Quality and Equality of Hong Kong Basic Education Results from PISA 2000+to PISA 2006

This paper seeks to examine the quality and equality of basic education of Hong Kong based on the first three cycles of the Program for International Student Assessment(PISA).Results from these three assessments suggested that the Hong Kong students have an outstanding performance in mathematics,science and *** particular,the performance of reading improves substantially in PISA *** far as equality in education is concerned,the achievement gap of students from different socio-economic backgrounds in Hong Kong is relatively small compared with other ***,the academic performance variation between-schools suggest that,there is still academic segregation among secondary schools in Hong Kong although it has been reduced slightly in the PISA 2006.

Supporting nurse practitioner education:Preceptorship recruitment and retention

Objectives:Clinical experience is an essential component of nurse practitioner(NP)education that relies heavily on *** and retention of preceptors is challenging due to many variables that can affect NP education and *** surveyed Canadian NP programs to understand their preceptorship structures,how they support preceptorship,and to identify gaps and challenges to recruitment and retention of ***:An 18-item survey,developed by the NP Education Interest Group,was distributed to 24 universities across 10 Canadian *** validity and reliability was assessed by experienced NPs and NP *** were analyzed using relative frequency statistics and thematic *** consisted of administrative staff and/or faculty designated as responsible for recruitment and retention of NP ***:Seventeen returned surveys were analyzed and demonstrated more similarities than differences across Canada's NP programs,particularly related to barriers affecting recruitment and retention of *** findings identified NP programs have too many students for the number of available clinical sites/preceptors,resulting in overutilization,burnout,or refusal to take *** with other health disciplines for clinical placements was identified as a challenge to *** commented they lack time to recruit,provide follow-up,offer support,or seek preceptors'feedback due to competing work *** identified the need for standardized funding for preceptor remuneration and recognition across the ***:The findings suggest the need for exploring a wider intraprofessional collaboration among graduate NP programs/faculty,clinical placement sites,and NPs to facilitate the recruitment and retention of preceptors.

新型FRP-混凝土填充钢管与木材填充复合柱由纤维增强聚合物(FRP)布或管、木芯、混凝土和钢管组成。钢管和外接FRP材料限制了混凝土的横向膨胀,提高了混凝土开裂后的延性性能;内部木芯可有效提高复合柱的变形能力,同时显着减轻复合柱的重量。新型FRP-混凝土填充钢管加木芯复合柱具有环保、节能、减排、可持续发展等优点。本文采用实验研究、数值模拟和理论分析方法研究新型复合柱的轴向受压行为。(1)根据木芯直径,GFRP(玻璃纤维增强聚合物)层厚、层角设计10个复合柱试件,进行轴向压缩试验。结果表明,每个试件的破坏过程大致分为两个阶段:线弹性阶段和弹塑性阶段。适用于不同木芯尺寸的样品,试片表面鼓起,多处出现象脚。在加载的后期,外表面的GFRP布被拉断,凸起。从外面可以看到里面的钢管屈曲。是有裂缝的钢管,将试件内部的钢管从裂缝处撕开,直到试件的承载能力下降,才停止加载。随着外部GFRP布层数量的增加,内部混凝土由于钢管的存在而分散。从试件的载荷-位移曲线可以看出,所有试件均为延性破坏。随着玻璃钢布的不同铺设角度,外层玻璃钢布出现起皱、翘曲,多处出现象脚,直至内层钢管扣住外层玻璃钢布沿一定角度拉开,装载停止。从试件的载荷-位移曲线可以看出,所有试件均为延性破坏。(2)当复合柱试件木芯尺寸增大时,复合柱的极限承载力(P)减小,各试件的初始刚度(K)有下降趋势,但延性性能(DI)和能耗性能(TA)有显着提高;平均减少29.6%,载重比(P)平均仅下降18.1%。平均K值下降21.3%,而平均K/W值仅下降7.9%;DI平均增加43.9%,(DI/W)平均增加69.8%。TA平均增长27.8%,TA/W平均增长48.1%。木芯可有效提高复合柱的载重比和延展性。随着复合柱极限承载力的降低,各试件的初始刚度、延性和能耗性能降低;随着GFRP铺装角度的增大,复合柱的极限承载力和能耗性能均提高。(3)采用有限元分析软件ABAQUS建立了新型FRP-混凝土填充钢管与木材填充复合柱轴压有限元分析模型,模拟试件的位移加载过程,分析了试件的变形和应力云图。组件,并通过极限承载能力。将模拟值与测试结果进行比较。模拟值与测试值最大误差为15.2%,试件平均误差为5%。复合柱的极限承载力随着木芯直径的增大而减小,随着GFRP层厚和层角的增大而增大。(4)基于极限平衡理论,建立新型复合柱受力分析模型,考虑木芯直径、GFRP层厚、层角等主要参数,引入参数约束率和稳定因子。给出了一种新型FRP-混凝土填充钢管加木复合柱的极限轴向承载力计算公式。

Microstructural Characterization and Tensile Behavior of Rutile(TiO_2)-Reinforced AA6063 Aluminum Matrix Composites Prepared by Friction Stir Processing

Rutile(TiO_2) particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites were prepared by friction stir processing. The microstructure was studied using conventional and advanced characterization techniques. TiO_2 particles were found to be dispersed uniformly in the composite. Clusters of TiO_2 particles were observed at a higher particle content of 18 vol%. The interface between the TiO_2 particle and the aluminum matrix was characterized by the absence of pores and reactive ***-grain boundaries, ultra-fine grains and dislocation density were observed in the composites. TiO_2 particles improved the mechanical properties of the composites. However, a drop in tensile strength was observed at a higher particle content due to cluster formation. All the prepared composites exhibited ductile mode of fracture.

Monocyte-secreted Wnt5a interacts with FZD5 in microvascular endothelial cells and induces angiogenesis through tissue factor signaling

Angiogenesis during reactive and pathologic processes is characteristically associated with inflammation. Inflammatory cells partici- pate in angiogenesis by secreting different molecules that affect endothelial celt functions. We had previously shown that induced tissue factor （TF） expression in activated rnicrovascular endothelial celts （rn EC） is able to induce angiogenesis via autocrine regulation. However, the signals that induce TF expression in mEC are not fully known. Here, we demonstrate that rnonocyte paracrine cross-talk with mECs triggers rnEC-TF expression. We have identified that rnonocyte-secreted Wnt5a induces TF expression in rnEC and function-ally induces celt rnonolayer repair and angiotube formation in vitro as well as rnicrovesset formation in vivo. Monocyte-secreted Wnt5a activates FZD5 in mECs, which signals to induce the release of intraceUular Ca2＋ and increase NFKB transcription activity and TF gene expression. In sum, WntSa secreted by monocytes signals through the noncanonical Wnt-FZD5 pathway in mECs to induce TF expression that induces angiogenesis by autocrine regulation.
