Assessment of Anxiety among Caregivers at the Covid-19 Treatment Centers in Grand-Bassam and Cocody-Abidjan from July to September 2020

The rapid spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has led to general psychosis among the population in Ivory Coast. The medical profession, on the front line of the treatment, was in distress, given the risk of exposure to the patient. It is in this context that this study has set itself the objective of studying anxiety among caregivers involved in the management of people with COVID-19. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study that included a sample of 50 stakeholders. It took place from July to September 2020 at the Treatment Center of the Village of Information Technologies and Biotechnology in Grand-Bassam (VITIB) and the Infectious Diseases Treatment Center (CTMI) of the University Hospital (CHU) of Cocody. The results indicate that caregivers were male in 52% of cases with an average age of 36 years. These are: doctors, nurses and caregivers respectively in the proportions of 18%, 42% and 40% with more than half (58%) who had more than 5 years of seniority. A proportion of 34% of caregivers felt they were insufficiently protected. The Hamilton Scale assessment of anxiety showed that 14% had mild anxiety, 6% moderate anxiety and 2% severe anxiety. There was no link between the degree of anxiety and professional seniority but also between the degree of anxiety and the marital situation. This work has therefore made it possible to see that anxiety is a real problem for caregivers dedicated to the management of COVID-19 patients.

Tuberculosis of the Sternoclavicular Joint: Report of 3 New Cases Observed in Abidjan

The sternoclavicular joint is a rare site of osteoarticular tuberculosis. We now report three new cases of sternoclavicular tuberculosis. The report concentrates mostly on immunocompromised patients, notably two with HIV infection and one case marked by its acute onset which is rather original because, in this case, there was a swollen sternoclavicular joint with normal X-ray and it was the CT-scan which showed the lesions. The etiological diagnosis was made in the first case by polymerase chain reaction and in the second case by identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In the third case, the diagnosis was presumptive and the outcome on anti-tuberculous drugs was satisfactory. Sternoclavicular joint tuberculosis is unusual;the painful swelling of that joint should lead to realize a performed imaging such as CT-scan.

Optimization Study of the Removal of Atrazine from Aqueous Solution on to Composite Activated Carbon-Silver Using Response Surface Methodology

Activated carbon based oil palm shells were prepared by physical activation using steam which was further grafted with silver. The Response Surface Methodology (Doehlert design) was used to optimize both the impregnation of silver and the atrazine removal. The effects of three variables of preparation conditions of the composite activated Carbon-Silver (AC-Ag): Concentration of silver, impregnation temperature and impregnation time on the atrazine removal (Y1) was investigated on one hand. In another hand, three variables of atrazine removal from liquid phase: Temperature, pH and ratio of Atrazine/CaCl2 (r(Atraz/CaCl2)) on the adsorption capacity of atrazine (Y2) were also investigated. Based on the Doehlert designs, the quadratic models were developed to correlate the preparation variables and the adsorption variables to the response. The optimum conditions of preparation of AC-Ag were found to be: Concentration of silver of 0.063 mol/L, impregnation temperature of 223℃, impregnation time of 1.3 hand atrazine removal of 384.62 mg/g. The optimum conditions of atrazine adsorption were found to be: Temperature of 25.0℃, pH of 7.7 and r(Atraz/CaCl2) of 0.37 which gave 209 mg/g of atrazine adsorption capacity. These results demonstrated that the preparation and adsorption conditions have a significant influence on the removal of atrazine.

The depletion of chondroitin sulfates(CSs)within the intervertebral disc(IVD)during degenerative disc disease(DDD)results in a decrease in tissue hydration,a loss of fluid movement,cell apoptosis,a loss of nerve growth inhibition and ultimately,the loss of disc *** date,little is known with regards to the structure and content of chondroitin sulfates(CSs)during IVD *** behavior of glycosaminoglycans(GAGs),specifically CSs,as well as xylosyltransferase I(XT-I)and glucuronyltransferase I(GT-I),two key enzymes involved in CS synthesis as a primer of glycosaminoglycan(GAG)chain elongation and GAG synthesis in the nucleus pulposus(NP),respectively,were evaluated in a bovine ageing IVD ***,we showed significant changes in the composition of GAGs during the disc ageing process(6-month-old,2-year-old and 8-year-old IVDs representing the immature to mature skeleton).The CS quantity and composition of annulus fibrosus(AF)and NP were *** expression of both XT-I and GT-I was detected using immunohistochemistry.A significant decrease in GAGs was observed during the ageing *** are affected at both the structural and quantitative levels with important changes in sulfation observed upon maturity,which correlated with a decrease in the expression of both XT-I and GT-I.A progressive switch of the sulfation profile was noted in both NP and AF tissues from 6 months to 8 *** changes give an appreciation of the potential impact of CSs on the disc biology and the development of therapeutic approaches for disc regeneration and repair.

The Marine Benthic Algae Diversity of Gabon: Case of the Rocky Foreshore of Cap Estérias

This study has allowed to classify the marine macroalgae from the intertidal zone on the Atlantic side of Cap Estérias (Gabon). This area has a rich biodiversity but very few studies in the knowledge of benthic macroalgae have been done. The first study on the knowledge of the algae of the Gabonese coast was made in February 1974 by John and Lawson. This article has been revised to transcribe books and our study would aim to update the existing collection. The algae census is spread over a year from August 2020 to August 2021 and is the first detailed study carried out over a year, with regard to this part of the Gabonese coast. This study has allowed to know the specific diversity, to determine the structure of the flora and its spread out over time. The results show a significant algal diversity of thirty five (35) identified species. Three classes of macroalgae were determined and the percentage of species in the class (%EC): Floridaophyceae at 50% EC, Phaeophyceae at 30% EC and Ulvophyceae at 20% EC. The red algae are the most common in the area with sixteen (16) species determined against twelve (12) species of brown algae and seven (7) species of green algae. The Phaeophyceae class presents the Dictyotaceae family which is the most diverse with 7 species found. Some species seen appear in the collection of John et al., but others are new species encountered in Gabon such as Caulerpa sertularioides, Bryopsis plumosa (two Ulvophytes), Padina arborescens which is a Pheophyte and Galaxaura filamentosa, Digenea simplex,Hildenbrandia rubra, Asparagopsis armata and Caulacanthus ustulatus which are Rhodophytes. Some species are permanently present, they are found in all seasons but with significant abundance from July to September.

Problem of Obstetrical Evacuations: About 630 Cases Collected at the Maternity of Bouake University Hospital

Objective: To improve the care of evacuees at the maternity of the University Hospital Center of Bouaké (CHUB). Methodology: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study over a period of three months that covered 630 cases collected at the Maternity of the university Hospital of Bouaké. Results: Obstetric evacuation accounted for 42.5% of admissions to the delivery room. Patients under 20 years and over 34 years of age respectively represented 21% and 13.5% of the total. 62.7% of evacuees were not educated and 84.9% had low economic level. Nulliparous and multiparous women accounted for 54.9% of the patients and 88% had mean prenatal follow up. The evacuations were decided by midwives (91.3%), without previous adapted treatment (79.4%), with a badly filled evacuation card (49.7%) and no partograph. The taxi was the most used means of transportation (75.2%) and most evacuees took less than one hour to access the referral center (61.4%). The reasons for evacuation are mainly dominated by mechanical obstructions (34.8%);on admission the evacuees with no real reference reason were 243 (38.6%) and the diagnosis was inconsistent in 43% of cases. The majority of evacuated women delivered vaginally (69.4%). Most newborns had a satisfactory state at the 5th minute of life (79.4%) and we noted 54 cases (08.3%) of neonatal deaths. 7.8% of evacuees had a complication dominated by postpartum anemia (51.1%);we had lamented 17 cases (2.7%) of maternal deaths among evacuees, attributable to delivery haemorrhage (47.1%) and eclampsia (23.5%). Conclusion: A better organization of the reference and an equipment of the peripheral health structures would improve the prognosis of the evacuees.

Autoantibodies in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, on Black African Subject, in Abidjan

Aim: To determine the clinical and immunological characteristics of patients with systemic erythematosus lupus in Abidjan. Patients and Method: We studied 117 patients’ files with systemic lupus erythematosus aged 12 to 73 years old, who fulfilled the American College of Rheumatology (ACR)’s criteria. Antinuclear autoantibodies (ANA) were searched by indirect immunofluorescence. Anti-DNA native autoantibodies, extractable nuclear anti-antigens autoantibodies (anti-Sm, anti-SSA, anti-SSB and anti-RNP) and anti-phospholipids autoantibodies have been searched by ELISA technic. Results: The most frequent clinical manifestations were: articular damages (86.32%), cutaneous and mucosal lesions (71.79%) and fever (76.67%). Kidney damages have been noticed in 40.17%. Neurologic manifestations have been observed in 36.75%. Pericarditis and pleurisies have been noticed in 22.22% and 11.97% of cases, and anaemia in 86.32% of cases. ANA have been detected in 94.12% of cases, anti-DNA native’s autoantibodies in 73.53% and anti-Sm autoantibodies in 75% of cases. Anti-SSA and anti-SSB autoantibodies were respectively in 75% and 56.25% of cases. Anti-RNP autoantibodies were in all the patients, and anti-phospholipids autoantibodies were in 37.50% of cases. Conclusion: Systemic lupus erythematosus of Ivorian black subject is characterised by high prevalence of autoantibodies, mostly Anti-RNP.
